Enjoyed this dinner in Cortona. We sat in the garden and had good service and food, I had the gnocchi eggplant and loved it. They had a huge wine list that was awesome. We did find it funny they wouldn't seat us later than 7pm when the restaurant was entirely open.

unfortunately dinner at one of my favorite restaurants was not up to par. perhaps just a matter of poor choices. plus a large group of americans were next to us ( we are american) were so loud. folks should research customs before visiting a different country.

Our B&B host was able to get us in last minute and we could not have been more pleased. The staff was amazing and so gracious and funny. The food was incredible. I had the cacio e pepe gnocchi and my wife had the risotto with licorice and artichokes. We had a beautiful bottle of local Syrah and desert wine with a cheese plate. The ambiance was comfortable and interesting. Top dining experience in Cortona.

This shocked us how great it was. Not that we didn't expect to enjoy a popular place in Tuscany with good online reviews, but this was one of our favorite meals from our trip. We started with the gazpacho with eggplant pie and burrata, followed by the chianina & porcini pici and cappeletti with truffle shavings, then the tagliata and white beans. We finished with three flavors of gelato (chocolate, vanilla, and pistachio) and their pistachio ice cream cake. Everything was really amazing, but the pastas in particular blew us away. We also really appreciated the perfect portion of Florentine steak with their tagliata dish. Highly recommend this place. Also, Cortona itself is a cool town that is worth the visit in itself.

Gnocchi with ham and artichoke. Ravioli with pear, pesto, and walnut!

The food was AMAZING and priced very reasonably. My mom and I wanted to try multiple things and when we told them we were splitting, they split it for us and brought it out on two different plates. Service was incredible as well!

We dined at Osteria del Teatro on a rainy Sunday night. We were one of the first tables to be seated around 8pm, but the restaurant was very full by the time we left (9:15?). Service was lovely. Everyone spoke English and was friendly, and additionally was very helpful with menu suggestions. Craving some veggies, I ordered the Insalata as a starter. The portion is LARGE and comprised of only the freshest lettuce varieties and some of the ripest, sweetest tomatoes we tasted in Tuscany. The salad was served plain and I dressed it with just some local olive oil. We tried the Fagottini as a primi. What an absolute treat! Homemade raviolis filled with creamy cheese and walnuts, topped with fresh pears.... I'd say this is the ultimate fall dish - but I'd eat it during any season! Ordered at the server's suggestion, the Filletto Della Rossini was a slab of grilled bread topped with a perfectly cooked and extremely tender local beef fillet, which was further topped with a generous portion of foie gras and what can only be described as a pile of truffle shavings. The dish was ringed with a fruit-based puree (strawberry, perhaps). It was unexpected in many levels and arguably one of the richest meals I tried in all of Italy. Just...WOW. For dessert I again ordered at the server's suggestion and so glad I did! These folks know their stuff! The millefleur was a thick custard topped with a thin layer of what I'd describe as basically a praline flavor, but still somehow liquid, and candies oranges. Sweet, salty, creamy, and crunchy all at once - highly recommended.

Up until I stepped in this place my favorite restaurant in Italy was in Portifino (Mog). This is the new champ. We had some of the best pasta (duck ragu on tagliolino and fagottini stuffed with goat cheese and pears with walnut pesto.). The wine by the glass was excellent and the salad fresh and also had stuffed zucchini with ricotta. We didn't even order a second course as the potions were ample. Heard the steak here is legendary. Excellent homemade gelato. It was $90 with 6 glasses of wine, exceptional value, quaint and charming by any standards. Has a Michelins star. Do not miss this place if you are in Cortona or nearby.

The ossobuco was flavorful and well prepared but the desert; was incredible. The shaved pistachio chocolate was worth the price of admission and we thoroughly enjoyed our wines.

Our server told us that this previously a cave. How often do you get to dine in a cave? The inside of the restaurant is of this stone like space. We were immediately captivated. While it does not currently have a Michelin rating, we were told it previously had a Micheline rating. The atmosphere is that of a cave...cool, a little damp, and intimate. San Guiseppe has wine cellar, according to staff, date back. We felt totally and complete immersed in history and that was only the building. centuries of Sienese life. The cuisine honors Tuscan tradition while elevating it through precision and care. Each dish showcases excellent ingredients and confident execution, embracing regional flavors rather than reinventing them. San Guissppe feature traditional dishes such as handmade pasta, rich sauces, and tenders meats showcasing distinct flavors with bold seasoning. We order lasaguna and cheese salad...absolutely superb! Our servers were superior...waiting on you hand and foot. You did not ask for anything as it was already there. Our server, Marco, was kind, humorous and knowledgeable. Since it was our first time to the restaurant he was super patient and informative regarding menu items. La Taverna di San Giuseppe has s long-term Michelin recognition for a reason...superior food and excellent service in a very unique space. We savored every bite and sip we consumed in San Giuseppe. When we are in Tuscany again, we will make a beeline for this restaurant.

We ended up here by mistake (confused it with another spot), and unfortunately it didn't live up to expectations. The restaurant fills up with reservations for two seatings, and from the moment we sat down the pace felt rushed. We ordered drinks and a starter while deciding on the rest, but multiple staff members kept coming by trying to take our full order. It felt like they were pushing to move things along quickly. There were a couple positives. The chicken livers to start were quite tasty and something we didn't see often on other menus. The primi were underwhelming. The pasta didn't taste fresh like many other trattorias in Siena, and the dishes overall were just average. The lasagna in particular was mushy, and the sauces didn't stand out. The secondi were slightly better -- pork ribs, Barolo-braised beef, and a "small chicken" -- but still nothing that justified the higher prices. They do have an underground wine cellar built into a cave, which is interesting to see, but there are other places in Siena with much larger and more impressive cellar spaces. Also worth noting, they add a "10% tax" charge rather than the typical €2 coperto per person. Overall, a rushed and fairly mediocre meal at a higher price point. With so many better places to eat in Siena, this is one I'd skip.

The space was very inviting and decorated very simply with legendary bottles of wine and pictures of loved ones. At the time we were there, we were one of two tables they were serving so we felt very taken care of. We had a variety of their amazing pastas, and the perfectly cooked steaks were absolutely delicious. A standout of the food was the truffle fondue. Often truffle is either too subtle or overpowering, but this was perfect! Best focaccia I've had, amazing wines, and some truly scrumptious desserts. I cannot describe this experience without mentioning the amazing staff and Chef Paola. They were fun and thoughtful, and especially accommodating of one of our party's celiac allergy. Paola came out a number of times bringing freshly baked GF bread, GF pasta, and even prepared a custom GF almond cake with custard. She was engaging and supportive, and made them feel comfortable, safe, and uninhibited by the allergy. At the end of the meal they offered us the staff's homemade amaro for free which was delicious and we toasted with them to end the night! Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. I started with the latter, which was delicious -- but the powerful flavour of cheese and the egg yolk drowned out the chard. My wife's potato flan was quite nice, but it arrived buried under a heap of truffle shavings that tasted of nothing in particular. My main was a special of roast suckling pig with potatoes and a savoury tuile made with the pork drippings. The tuile was gratuitous -- a chef-y touch that didn't actually taste very nice. The suckling pig was beautifully cooked but the potatoes were weirdly inconsistent; some crisp and others mushy. Il Fornacino is a good restaurant that would be the best restaurant around in most places, but the five-star bar is set pretty high in Tuscany. But the prices were very modest and the wine selection was great. It's a tremendously good value for what it offers.
