Because of Georgio at the Osteria Fara, our first meal in Italy, was enchanting and so delicious. Jetlagged and famished, we walked around the corner from our hotel and spotted Georgio setting up the chalkboard easel listing the specials. He welcomed us in the courtyard, alfresco, and recommended the sea bass, rissoto. Both superlative! It got super busy, yet, Georgio as the only server continued to be attentive and delightful. The ambience is OK, although it's a bit crowded and noisy, but maybe that's the way we should expect it as a relatively small space that's very popular with diners - both locals and tourists. The portions are kind of small, so I should've ordered more food, but the two waiters that served me were very good and professional, and one of them is fluent in four languages, so that helped us communicate. The branzino was good, just be careful of the bones. The octopus and potato salad was a welcomed surprise, very good. The spicy oil was the star of the show. It was VERY spicy, but in a good way. Loved it. The biggest issue, really only issue, was the speed of the kitchen. The two male servers tried to keep you updated but after receiving our octopus and side salad, we waited over 45 minutes for our next dish. Very average dinner. To my American folks, it's like eating at cheesecake factory or maybe even worse. Service took forever and the food was mediocre. Don't even think about the steak (scottona); it's cooked perfectly medium or medium rare but very tough and fibrous. The paccheri with bacon and saffron was good, but again nothing crazy. Everything was delicious and fresh! We're from Los Angeles and we find it remarkable how we were able to eat a whole pizza, salad, a fish pasta and tiramisu and not feel bloated or lethargic afterwards. Everything was served at a perfect temperature (I love my food to be hot) and we told the waitress it was our 8th anniversary so at the end of our meal, they turned the lights off then the owner came out with tiramisu with candles on top and Ed Sheeran playing. Asparagus was cooked longer than usual but tasty Cons: The lobster linguini I ordered barely had any lobster and pasta lacked flavor. Tuna Tartare tasted too fishy for me The filet with balsamic and risotto was way too heavy with the balsamic and meat didn't taste that seasoned. We got back late from a tour to Lake Como and Switzerland and were looking for a place to eat close to our hotel. I found this place and they seated us immediately around 10pm. The meal started with complimentary prosecco, which was unexpected and lovely. The food was INCREDIBLE. Standouts were definitely the truffle tortelli and the tagliatelle with pear and Gorgonzola...but the osso buco, veal Milanese and tagliatelle with ragu were also delicious. Service was amazing...I wish I got our server's name, but she had every table in the restaurant and there was never an empty glass or plate that needed to be cleared. Came here on a whim for our last night in Italy (out of 15 days) and was greeted warmly by Georgio, promptly seated and given a welcome glass of Prosecco and then told to relax and enjoy the evening. We eventually ordered Paccheri pasta with bacon, cream, spec and saffron along with Tortelli stuffed with black truffles. Both went great with the recommendation of Lacrima wine and topped off with a great piece of tiramisu and a complementary limoncello! The pizza was the best we've had in Italy and the waiter and owner were so fun and kind! We were given a free dessert as well. Even though it was almost closing time, our waitress was very patient and seemed to be grooving to the music playing in the background while explaining the menu to us. We were given a free glass of prosecco each, which was a great way to start off the meal. We ordered a bottle of Chianti and I decided to get the Risotto alla Milanese (risotto w/ saffron, butter, and grana padano cheese). I personally think I might just not be a fan of Risotto alla Milanese in general since I tried it at several restaurants during my time in Milan and I wasn't into the super buttery taste. However, if you are into this type of dish, I can tell that it was cooked well and a good option to try off the menu. My boyfriend ordered one of the special pastas of the night and we both enjoyed his dish more. However, it also tasted very butter heavy so we both felt our cholesterol rising by the time we finished eating lol We also got a margherita pizza which wasn't anything spectacular but can't really complain for 6 Euros. There are lots of outdoor restaurants with tables on the sidewalk to choose from in the Central Station Area. My wife and I did not want a typical tourist meal but rather a bit more local venue. Our concierge at our hotel made a few suggestions. We selected one just a few minutes' walk from the hotel and main rail station. Osteria Fara has a small entrance with no outside fan-fare. The entrance opens onto a large courtyard where they have their outdoor seating. You are seated nicely away from the street traffic noise. The restaurant also has a large indoor seating area as well. Service is friendly and very responsive to our requests. You can dine as fast or as slowly as you would like. We decided to share four (4) items from the menu. We shared a warm asparagus starter, a spaghetti pasta dish, their special grilled branzino and a desert. It was perfect; all of the dishes were excellent. The portions were generous, so our decision to share was a good one. The wine selections are also extensive (no surprise in Italy). Best meal I have ever had anywhere with the best service imaginable. Had to wait 20 min but was offered complimentary Prosecco while waiting. Once seated additional Prosecco was poured and we also received bruschetta. For dinner we split a pizza and gnocchi Alla sorrentina which were fantastic. For dinner I had veal Milanese which was by far the best I have had. Compared to other locations in Milan it made them seem like fast food. Cooked perfectly and it had amazing flavor. I went here with my boyfriend to try the Osso Bucxo typical on Milan. I also tried the pacherri Fara and I tried the Osso Bucco and saffron risotto and everything was delicious. The bread is warm, crunchy, and homemade, we had two baskets of bread. The host served us champagne (3 rounds) and at the end of dessert, we were given two shots each of limoncello on the house. The service was phenomenal, the food was delicious. My boyfriends only complaint was the al dente risotto but that is very typically of most pasta and rice dishes in Italy, so just personal preference. We literally just left this restaurant and I felt so compelled to write this review because it is very, very rare to find a restaurant where the food, the service AND the ambience is on point! Our night began with an older gentleman that greeted us at the door, I wasn't sure where I wanted to eat but I saw that they had veal on their menu, so we decided to give it a try! And I'm so happy we did! The gentleman that greeted us was so incredibly kind and very hospitable, he gave us complimentary welcome drinks! I have never, ever been to a restaurant that offers their diners welcome dinks! A very smart move on his part because that let us to order more of that wine! Something we rarely do, I'm not really a drinker and my husband usually orders one beer with his meals, I don't want to make this review too long, but long story short! I ordered the Ossobuco (Veal risotto) which was so incredibly delicious! And my husband ordered the lobster pasta, in addition we had the tuna tartar which was SO devine! It tasted so buttery, delicate and so delicious! We received a very, very nice bread that looked like focaccia, with a very lovely chili infused oil (both homemade) all in all, one of the best meals we've had in this Italian vacation, please do yourself a favor a try this gem of a place! The hostess asked to my English speaking friends if they want to add a tip to the total bill which is not normal in Italy at all like in the United States. I confronted the owner at the end and he stated it is how is done here in Milan. It is a total lie since my sister lives here and I come twice a year and we never experienced this before.
