I had brunch at Osteria Morini with some friends this weekend after hearing about their savory pancakes. We were greeted warmly by staff and received the salad (satisfying, if a little barebones for $15) promptly. However, it took 50 minutes to receive our pancakes (we arrived at 11 am and received them just around noon). People who were seated after us received their full meals while we waited. There were only two other parties in the restaurant, so not sure what caused this, and while they kept our drinks refilled, it did take away from the experience. Luckily, the diavolo (a ricotta pancake topped with prosciutto, calabrian chili and honey sauce, and a poached egg) was absolutely excellent! We thoroughly enjoyed its mix of sweet and savory elements, and the egg was great. The tiramisu pancake was lacking something - we didn't taste any of the classic coffee flavor, so it was a bit one-note and also didn't really have enough elements in the topping to really shine; it was like whipped cream on a plain pancake - no real taste of cocoa or coffee at all. It was overly bland/sweet as a result, but still fluffy, rich and quite tasty. I would stick to the savory ones next time. The pancakes are large; we took some home even sharing 2 pancakes among 3 people. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and would recommend the savory pancakes for sure if you're at this spot for brunch. The restaurant is beautiful inside and has a gorgeous view of the water, so the ambience was great. All in all, a solid brunch spot with some unique offerings! read more

We stumbled into Happy Hour at Osteria Morini, and wow, what a great experience. The service was quick, friendly and helpful. The cocktails were perfectly crafted. We had two of the five items listed on the Happy Hour Menu, and we ate every delicious crumb of the brussell sprouts (with pistachios) and the little meatballs. My description isn't doing them justice. The experience was memorable, and we will definitely be back. read more

Just got into town and are staying in Navy Yard to see a Nationals game tomorrow. Made it into Morini with their last seating. We've been eating a lot on this trip so we decided to share four smaller plates. We ordered the gnudi - delicious, almost sweet, the polpettine - really rich meatballs, with a touch of cheese and sauce and delicious toast, crispy zucchini - light and tasty, and the roasted beet salad (after finding out they were out of grilled peaches). Each dish was a generous portion for a small plate or appetizer. I recommend the zucchini to pair with the polpettine - a delicious combination together. I'd have liked just a bit more arugula with the beets since it's listed as a salad. The service was great, we were well tended. We sat on the patio overlooking the water and the active sidewalk for all the folks out walking dogs and babies before wrapping up their weekend. We don't get to DC often, but I'd definitely come back and I hope to try the NYC version soon. read more

Always on the hunt for fresh pasta, my wife and I found ourselves drawn to the handmade pasta menu at Navy Yard's Osteria Morini. We made a reservation for peak, Saturday dinner hours and were met with a bustling outdoor patio and loud, dark indoor dining space. The interior of the restaurant feels more like an old steakhouse than a modern Italian place, so consider the outdoor patio with great views of the water if you plan on dining here. Our server touched our table almost immediately upon being seated and took our order shortly thereafter. We started with the fried chicken and the octopus appetizer. The chicken arrives coated in a light and crispy semolina crust. The nuggets of meat remain juicy and pair perfectly with both the Calabrian chili honey and mustard aioli sauces served alongside. The skimpy portion of the octopus appetizer disappointed, but the tentacles themselves were tender and the tangy chickpea accompaniment made for a welcome burst of flavor. Our pastas took a little longer than expected to arrive, but we were in no rush. Osteria Morini makes all of their noodles in house, and the textures of both of our pastas were superb. While the pappardelle itself possessed a silky, toothsome bite, the lamb ragu served alongside was bland and stingily portioned. Furthermore, the addition of undercooked peas and carrots felt rudimentary. In contrast, the gramigna not only possessed quality, springy, and uniquely shaped noodles, but also brought a rich, intense white sausage ragu with a surprising amount of sharp flavor balanced with an appropriate hit of acid. That dish acted as the easy favorite of the night and contrasted strongly to the basic, suboptimally executed lamb pappardelle. Both the manager and our waiter noticed the lag time between our appetizers and mains, and offered a complimentary dessert for the service lapse. This was a, excuse the pun, sweet touch that enhanced the overall great service experience. We opted for the tiramisu which offered an ideal, lush creamy texture balanced by a strong coffee backbone. Our bill totaled about $100 pre tip. We ate our fill (even without the dessert), though felt only so-so value given the small protein portions in some of the dishes. Overall, Osteria Morini is a decent option for fresh pasta dishes in the Navy Yard area. The food and value make for a 3.5 star rating, though thoughtful service bumps my rating to a solid 4 stars. read more

Ordered the Hugo Spitz with elderberry and Prosecco. Tasty and refreshing on this warm spring day. For food I got the Pappardelle with lamb. I usually enjoy more red sauce but this was still good. Definitely recommend this restaurant. We came out for a girls night before Army 10 miler and needed some pasta! Everything was served hot, flavorful & delicious! The vibe inside is classy but outside is a little more laid back with water views and ambient music (ours was reggae). Guillermo and the rest of the wait staff were excellent. My friends and I ordered the crispy cauliflower, asparagus, green beans, rigatoni, Campanella (squid ink) pasta, the capatelli, and the bolognese. We were all very pleased with our respective dishes. Have been coming here year after year and it really missed the mark this time. Service was poor in that what we ordered wasn't what we received for dessert. While it was a simple mistake of getting the flavors of sorbetto wrong it was just another example of not paying attention. Appetizers took a half hour to come to the table. Yes, the manager came by and apologized and even went so far to take the cost off the bill but the appetizer was way off. Calamari was very oily and the aioli was nothing but mayonnaise. No flavor at all. The bread was very good. Dinners were sub par. The shrimp and pasta were scant on shrimp and they were very tough... way over cooked. Also, serving food in old dishes that are chipped is a big deal in my book. I went to the restroom and the whole place seemed dirty. Trashy bathroom, kitchen staff on their phones, food prep stations (fryers) unkempt and out of order. This is one of the kitchens that you can walk by and watch them cook. So I would expect the place to be on point. When I watch the cooks eating on the line during business hours yet appetizers were delayed and made poorly it seems to be a bigger issue. Enough little trash laying on the floors and dirty windows that it made me feel uneasy. This was on an evening when the place was dead. I mean dead. Outside tables weren't squared away and cleaned. Just a general malaise and apathy. Not sure I'll come back considering how far it seems they have fallen and the amount of other places available. read more

We really enjoyed our lunch at this spot. We visited during a festival and sat outside at one of the many tables on the terrace. The service was a little mixed, but friendly. The food was tasty for our Saturday brunch and definitely on the heavier side! But hey, this is a pasta joint. We ordered the burrata, tagliatelle, and the meatballs, which came with a side of bread. The adults loved the burrata, which was served with chopped apples marinated in vinaigrette dressing. The kids loved the bread (obviously) and the pasta. There isn't any pizza at this place and they don't offer a kids menu. But overall, this seemed like a good spot to bring kids, at least on a Saturday afternoon. My partner's family loves coming here before a Nats game. This was my first time visiting and enjoyed the experience. I'd come back and would love to see if the dinner menu is more extensive than brunch. read more

Overall, solid food. Pastas are rather pricey, so I'd recommend to go on Mondays for $15 pasta (or during government shutdown when everyday is $15 pasta for federal workers). My partner and I had: - Rosemary & sea salt focaccia - excellent focaccia, albeit a bit salty (lots of sea salt on top and salty butter melted throughout). Nonetheless, it was very flavorful, and the accompanying butter was incredible. The texture was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft inside. - Tortelli - tasty and filling ossobuco (veal) tossed in a very rich and hearty saffron butter, barolo sugo, and gremolata. So rich and buttery that I felt full eating after a few pieces. It does get rather too heavy and "old" (taste was the same throughout every bite), so I needed a refreshing kick from a different dish, which brings me to below... - Pappardelle - ahh, so much more refreshing and lighter than tortelli! I was glad for this dish, which balanced out the heavy tortelli in terms of flavor and texture. The meat didn't impress me, but the pasta was fresh and excellent, and the mint and peas added some refreshing change to the texture. read more

We ordered the meatballs to start (not pictured) and they were flavorful and covered in Parmesan which was lovely! My friend ordered the carbonara which she raved about. Went for lunch on a weekday. The service was great - I had 2 waitresses who checked in regularly and provided good recommendations. The espresso martini was solid. We started with the meatball appetizer, I got a cream pasta (carbonara I think) and then finished off with tiramisu. Everything was delicious! Stopped by for an early dinner while on vacation with the family. For appetizers, we had the aroncinis, and focaccia bread. Both were excellent. The focaccia was perfect, nice and soft and not too greasy. They didn't have a kids menu, but my son loved the spaghetti, and my daughter really liked the gnocchi. My wife and I had three grilled branzino, which was fantastic, but on the small side. Would love to come here again the next time I'm in DC. read more

Morini is my favorite Italian restaurant in DC. This osteria is amazing and reminded me of eating in Italy. The day was perfect to eat in their outdoor patio area. Our waiter was attentive even with us being outside which speaks volumes. [some places aren't as attentive when you sit outdoors] ORDER: - Polpettine which is meatball appetizer made of prosciutto and mortadella. It sat on melted cheese and was paired with delicious bread. - Tagliatelle that came with bolognese and parmigiano. - Gramigna smothered in a sausage ragu, scallion, and parmigiano. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the sauces with cheeses blended in were delicious. The appetizer alone could be close to enough and fulfilling for one. Our food was paired with Hugo spritz and made well. If you'd like a taste of Italy or quality food that reminds you of Italy; check out this osteria. In the heart of the Navy Yard area in DC, you can enjoy the tasty food before or after a baseball game or simply have a meal by the water. One of my favorite fine dining Italian restaurants in the city with house-made pastas and cocktails - great happy hour deals (Mon - Fri 3-6pm) and dinner too! The spacious restaurant is great for groups and families with plenty of indoor seating and also patio seating. The restaurant is upscale, but there are no white table clothes and brought our toddler who was perfectly content in the stroller. While online reservations are recommended (with a credit card hold), the restaurant doesn't really get crowded and walk-ins are welcomed. Crostini (5/5) - While it was a bummer that the complementary bread basket was discontinued (the bread was a bit stale anyway!), the grilled crostini with garlic oil was delicious and worth the $2. Great way to start off our meal and toddler devoured it! Pecorino de Tartufo (5/5) - The Black Truffle Cheese with toasted crostini and jam was delicious and a great pairing! Arancini (5/5) - The 3 petite golf-sized fried balls filled with truffle risotto are fun to try and good for sharing, great $6 happy hour app. While I enjoyed them, I would make more room for the main course pasta dishes or the truffle cheese. Prosciutto di Parma (3/5) - Juicy 20 month aged prosciutto, but a bit thickly sliced and reminded my hubby of sashimi. Truffle Cappelletti with Prosciutto (5/5) - My hubby thoroughly enjoyed the ravioli. The cheese stuffed pasta had a subtle truffle flavor in a buttery sauce and the prosciutto added some bold flavor. Rigatoni with Mushroom (4/5) - Delicious al dente pasta in a delicious ragu chunky tomato sauce with braised mushrooms ragu cooked to perfection and topped with parmesan cheese. Branizo (5/5) - Hubby enjoyed the deboned sea bass, and the savory chick peas and broccoli that paired well with sea bass. Vin Brule Cocktail (5/5) - The warm mullied wine was bursting with flavor from the spices and on the sweeter side. Perfect cocktail that paired really well with the pasta dish. Hot Toddy Cocktail (5/5) - Scotch, honey, lemon, and spices packed a punch and perfect way to warm us up! I got this cocktail in spring 2020 and didn't see it on the menu this time around - Dec 2021. Hopefully it'll come back! Buttered Bourbon Cocktail (4/5) - Warm Bourbon cocktail mixed with butter topped with a large scoop of whipped cream. While the whimsical cocktail was Instagram-perfect and fun to try, the flavor profile wasn't quite balanced. Hugo (4/5) - Zesty lemon vodka cocktail with elderflower. Red and White Sangria (3/5) - Both the red and white sangria aren't sweet, and prefer the red over the white. There was hardly any fruit in the sangria. Not bad for happy hour, but wouldn't pay full price. Tiramisu (2/5) - The decadent 3 tier cake wasn't the traditional spongy tiramisu that I was hoping for. Fun to try with a layer of mascarpone cheese, chocolate mousse, and chocolate cake topped with a whipped coffee cream. The dessert didn't quite hit the spot and would save more space for the stand-out pasta dishes and cocktails! Great place for pasta, hearty meat dishes, and cocktails! A friend and I attended the very first pasta making class at Morini in Navy Yard. It was hosted by their chef Cris who was amazing! He explained and answered questions we had through the process of making ravioli and gnocchi. The food was so good! And they kept the mimosas flowing! They had served mimosas til we finished making the pasta dishes which we got to take home. After making the dishes, they served fresh meals (of what we made) and had wine to accompany as well. Who would've thought that I would be dining on squid ink pasta... I - I had walked past this place and admired their outdoor seating and lovely tables filled with apperol spritz for days, but it was the Monday $15 pasta deal that drew me in - my gluten free friend even spoke highly of their gluten free pasta and joined for their rigatoni - the squid ink pasta was delicious, totally al dente and you could tell it was made in house (how does the ink get in there...?) - the shrimp and scallops absolutely stole the show though they were cooked to perfection and melted in my mouth. I wish it was triple the amount of seafood (without trippiling the price) - so moral of the story: worth it for that monday deal and a great ambiance, maybe not full price....but I'm also just a penny pincher read more

Food quality is good and portions are usually appropriate. They have outdoor seating with umbrellas and dim string lights. It over looks the yards park waterfront so it's lively and scenic. But indoor dining is nice since half of the restaurant is floor to ceiling windows. Service is prompt and professional. Food is tasty and prepared in the traditional Italian style. read more
