While I appreciate this company for making it out to my rental in a timely manner and addressing a clogged toilet, there are just some things that don't sit right with me and I think people need to be aware of. #1- they were called for a CLOGGED TOILET. I (the landlord) was not able to be present during the repair. Instead of just addressing the issue at hand, they walked around my entire house to include the basement and pointed out to her several things. ("Water pipes needed to be completely replaced, along with all the sewer lines", etc). I've had repairs done on the sewer lines last year and had a clean out installed by another company. This is totally noticeable because it looks brand new. The sewer line is fine. #2- i believe this was a fear-mongering tactic used to try to get more work and money out of her. Taking advantage of her not understanding these things. Again, they were called for a clogged toilet. Not a "broken water line", not a "backed up sewer", none of that. #3- the fill valve in the toilet needs to be "repaired". They quoted me $400 to repair a fill valve, flapper and supply line. This is absolutely OUTRAGEOUS!! A total rebuild kit costs $30 at Lowe's. They told her that she would need to replace the entire water tank as well. *** Can I just mention that a brand new toilet costs $100 at Lowe's??*** This is really sad and honestly criminal. I hope to god that you don't try this on anyone who doesn't know any better. I've been around this type of work my entire life and never have I EVER seen this kind of pricing. Absolutely not happening. Reevaluate your prices and be honest about what you're doing. Thanks for responding and unclogging the toilet quick, though. I do appreciate that. read more

Was contacted today Sept. 16 by Ostrom and they offered to reimburse me some of the charge. I informed them the service was good except their rates were still high. Was told that some of the rates (40%) went for other expenses than the labor. 30 days warranty for labor. Amanda was very polite. read more

Ostrom did my annual evaluation of my HVAC and detected that my old furnace was leaking a little bit of carbon monoxide. It was recommended that I replace it with a new one. Since my A/C unit has aged and not performing as it should I decided to replace it also . Replacing both at the same time cost less. Today, October 21,2024 both were replaced by two of Ostrom best technicians, Chris and Jimmy. They did an excellent job that displays their expertise. They are extremely respectful and know how well to treat their customers. Their technical knowhow and their customer service are excellent. Undeniably they are a good asset to Ostrom. I'll say "BRAVO" and thanks to both Chris and Jimmy for a job well done. They also clean up the whole area of work before leaving. read more

We needed repairs on our HVAC system. An employee (Thomas) from OSTROM Electrical , Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning arrived. I can't say enough about this extremely personable young man. He was able to give options on possibilities of what repairs we could do or perhaps replacing the entire system. This unit is very old and basically on its last leg. We have used and will continue to use this company for future needs. Their employees are top of the line. They are well trained, knowledgeable and efficient. I was very satisfied with the service that Ostrom gave us. The first appt was due to a blocked drain. Tyson and another guy came out inspected and worked to clear the pipe But was unable to And thought the pipe may had broken in the floor. Tyson suggested a guy come out the next day to scope the pipe to see what he could determine. Nathan came out today and scoped and also snaked it again and was able to clear the pipe! No break! We were so thankful. Honesty is the best. These guys and company could have told us we had a break and Dads floor would have had to come up to repair the pipe but they were honest! We are so grateful to Ostrom and these nice guys. We will use again and tell others. Always continue to be honest it goes a long ways! read more

They offered financing, I was approved for $15k and they made sure they got every dime of it too. They replaced my oil furnace and did an electrical panel upgrade. They didn't get a permit for the work before they started, they only offered to get one 3 years after the work was complete. The furnace and AC unit have been nothing but trouble since it was installed. One problem after another. 2.5 years after installation the air handler fan went out. It's been around 3 years since that was replaced. Well guess what, it's making the same noise again. They told me when I got the quote I was getting a Trane system, come to find out after all is said and done, I got some kind of cheap builder grade system. They left gaps in my return line, now my filter has to be changed every couple of weeks. They have a banner on the side of their truck that says you don't pay unless your satisfied. Well they took the money before the job was even started so that statement is a lie. read more

Do not trust, go elsewhere. Technicians were cool and informative, but sketchy business practice. They stated they would diagnose the problem for $89(the only thing I requested). Once they came back to me, they had gone ahead and fixed the issue without consulting myself or letting me know price /anything (unethical in my opinion).... which was only putting an electrical wire cap on 2 loose wires. What was suppose to only be a diagnostic to only inform me of what the issue was turned into a $300 shakedown. Lesson learned! read more

Water heater leaked on Christmas Eve resulting in having to turn off water. We have been customers of Ostrom's for almost 12 years... until now. We called Ostrom's and explained our emergent request. We were given "an appointment" for Tuesday!! Because they do not have 24/7 coverage. So, I had to call another company who was in my house within a few hours! How does a plumbing and air company not have emergency on-call numbers or after hours??? I loved this company and the people who have helped us in the past. But, I need a reliable company that will service after office hours. read more

If you look up the meaning of "you get what you pay for," you should be directed to the website for Ostrom. First, the bad: yes, they are expensive. But after dealing with many different contractors in the area for over 20 years, I now always call Ostrom. Here's why: 1. They are the most professional group in the area. A human always answers the phone, day or night. Service people call before they arrive, introduce themselves and let you know they're on their way. When they arrive they are well-dressed and respectful. They ALWAYS show up (!!!). And in the rare instance that they're going to be late, they'll call and let you know that. 2. They do excellent work. 3. They leave the place clean and tidy. If you buy everything on price only, don't bother calling Ostrom. But if you value your time and peace of mind, there's no other place to go in the Roanoke Valley and environs. read more

I had electric, hvac and plumbing work recently completed and I am very pleased overall and happy to recommend them. First their office staff is great, courteous and friendly and in good communication with those in the field. Next, the work was scheduled without problems. Third, the skilled technicians all did great work, and I want to personally thank Scott and Andy and Isaac/electrical; Layne and Dustin and Hunter/plumbing; and Thomas and Chris, Conner and Eric/hvac. Called to get a quote on a 30 minute job (220v so I didn't want to risk it) and was led to believe it was a VERY big job. Was quoted an insane amount but considering how much it was I was obviously in over my head. After 45 minutes they were done and I was dumbfounded. I was given an insanely overpriced list (20x the retail price) of things they used and was told goodbye. I called and was given a discount, but 700-800 dollars for 30-45 minutes worth of work is highway robbery! All that was done was a 10 foot 220 wire (NOT EVEN AN OUTLET) was run from my electrical box. All they did was swap out a breaker, screw the leads in and run the wire across the ceiling in my unfinished basement!!! This was a $75 job tops. I don't care about how they do special flat rate pricing or whatever, all I care about is the fact I was charger 10x the amount that is fair. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Ostrom. They undertook the move of my laundry room from basement to first floor to ease my mobility issues. Electrician Tommy and his apprentice, Plumber Cameron and Turner, and HVAC technician Kevin completed this job, which took a day longer than quoted, but the job remained a flat rate for everything. Plumber discovered a boiler hose in crawl space that had become disconnected. HVAC technician came out the next day and repaired the hose at a very reasonable rate. Plumber discovered a drain outside the basement door was clogged, and they cleared it. I purchased the Service Partner Agreement for a year of quarterly maintenance calls at a very reasonable rate. I will continue to call Ostrom and suggest others do the same. read more

Incompetent. Heat was out during very cold weather. After looking at the furnace, we were told they needed to order a part. They charged an extra $100 to expedite delivery of the part. They came back 5 days later on Thursday, after our heat was out during February, tried the part only to discover that they never needed to order anything. Had they been even remotely competent, the issue could have been fixed quickly on Saturday. DO NOT call them. read more

I really appreciated this company when they sent someone to repair three non-functioning light sockets in my basement. Because the work was so quick, he only charged me for the $38 service call. And he did not try to sell me any kind of maintenance or service contract - thank heavens, because there is nothing that guarantees my never calling again faster than a "sell job" to buy something I neither want nor need. Requested a quote to install a out door faucet. Connect to cold water pipe under kitchen sink. Less than 1 foot run of pipe. Rep began immediately pushing maintenance contract for monthly fee. Then quoted price of 568.00 with contract and 628.00 without contract for a job that would take about an hour and use less than 100.00 in parts. We sent him packing! Found another licensed plumber who did job in about an hour and charged 150.00. You be the judge. read more

Save your $38. This company charges $38 dollars to come out and quote work. We were new to the area and saw lots of good reviews about Ostrom. We called two electricians to come out and quote a 200 amp service upgrade for our house. Apparently this is a very standard job performed around the area due to the ages of homes. Ostrom happened to be the first appointment and thank goodness we had scheduled a second electrician to quote also. George from Ostrom came out to the house and was very prompt and polite. George almost sold me just because of how nice and knowledgeable he was. He sat down and explained everything they would do for this job. Then he pulled the rug out from under me and told me it would cost $3400. Side note: my fiancé and I had done some online digging and expected to pay around $1000 give or take a few hundred. I picked my jaw up off the floor and thanked him for his time. I do want to emphasize George was a great person, and I am sure he doesn't have control of the prices. We called TG Electrical as our second option and they came out and gave me a quote in 15 minutes for the upgrade. He told me it was a pretty straight forward job and he would do it for $1400!!!!!! He was a certified master electrician and was insured and bonded. It's not like I called some fly by night guy to do the work. They scheduled the job for the following week and were on time and did a great job. They finished in a day and a half as promised and I am very satisfied. Avoid Ostrom at all costs unless you enjoy paying quintuple the actual cost of a job. I am not sure if their business model is to just collect the $38 charge to come out and quote a job, then quote high so they won't have to do the work. Who knows, just remember don't waste your hard earned $38 dollars to be slapped in the face. Heck I would only charge you $5 for that. read more

Don't want to use Ostrom because I used them before and was a bad experience. Two techs came to fix a light switch, took them a long time, they whispered to each other a lot then the switch wouldn't work. They finally got it working and handed me a bill fir $248. I called ostrom to set up an appointment. The lady operator asked what kind of problem that I have. I told her my air condition unit is leak and it's not cold. She had set up an appointment. Later I called back and asked her if there is a charge or a free estimate (she should tell me before hand, right?). She answerd there is a $89 charges if I'm not agree on the estimated price. On the appointment day a guy came to look at the air cond unit and ask what a problem and I told him the same thing I told the lady at the office. He told me that if I wanted to have it fixed he has to call the technician to find the leak and it's going to cost me $219 plus this and that and those and the total is around $2200. So to cut the story short I paid him the $89 for coming to tell me all the things that lady should have told me on the phone. Right? To me it's simply a scam. Everyone was very professional, on time, and a pleasure to work with. All were respectful and knowledgeable of their responsibilities and explained the procedures they were conducting and how to operate the different functions of the new thermostat. Expensive/Overpriced!!!!!! I was Quoted $500 for a Badger 5 disposal which costs $110 at Lowe's and only takes 30 minutes to install (see you-tube Badger Installation). $400 for 30 minutes of work! When I initially called ostrom out to fix my plumbing I wanted them to repair or replace two outside faucets they put some packing in the first one up front of the house and the rear one they said they could not fix said they would do some research on it whatever that means charge me like $300 and never came back. After 11 pm.....NO HOT WATER.....my husband called Ostrom, a human anseered and kindly talked us through some trouble-shooting that saved us from an after hours fee. Next morning a scheduler, who had information from our urgent call, set an appointment for us, the technician arrived on time, confirmed the diagnosis or our problem, considered how best to repair, offeded me options, fixed it and...back to normal hot water. The technician sent actually checked to make sure that I understood my choice and was happy with the result. He was kind, a gentleman and a good technician. Thank you, Osterman. They charge ridiculous amount of money! I have two thermostats and was told I will be charge $69 each just to check what's wrong. I was also charged around $256 for a capacitor, which costs maximum $30. I was never given a receipt for the work. read more
