If you're not into being pushed and challenged then don't go. The Instructor is great at making sure you are in the correct positions while continuing to urge the other students to continue holding the pose. And boy, when they say hot, they mean HOT! We'll be 2 poses in and I'll already be sweating!! I didn't know you're knee caps could sweat! The first class I went to was tough. I was exhausted when I got home. But this second class was great. I did better in some of the poses and felt really confident when I left. Even if you have a image issue, do yourself a favor and invest in yoga shorts and light tank top. You'll thank me later. I don't know how people wear capris in there... its just too hot. The other students are all very friendly and super encouraging. The first class is tough, but it's worth it! Sandy Island Beach is a New York state park on the east end of Lake Ontario. It contains the only…read moresignificant freshwater natural sand dunes in the Northeast. Only a small part of the sand is open for use as a beach to the public, since most of it is protected park land. When I went it was not too busy, but it would not take very many people to fill up the beach. The natural dunes are beautiful and the sand is very fine and soft. The swimming area is roped off which restricts how far swimmers can go. The beach goes from smooth sand, to a few feet of slightly uncomfortable rocks where the waves crash, then back to smooth sand underwater. I went swimming and it was a pleasant experience, with 72 degree water in mid-August. The fee was $7 per car for the whole day and there's a decent amount of parking. There are bathrooms and showering facilities.

Also a fun place to skip rocks. It mostly has stones that wash up on the beach, there are plenty of rocks to choose from. The downside of this beach is that it is tiny, dirty, and at least every time I have been here it does not seem very swimmable. You cannot really enjoy a nice walk on the beach because it will be about a 3 minute walk to get to the end. There was a lot of trash scattered about the sand. Lastly the waves have always been pretty big when I have visited and with having stones instead of sand at the waters edge I can imagine it being a rough time. I would not think there is really a good time of year though to swim here or sunbath since it is pretty cold most of the year.

On the eastern shore of Lake Ontario is this nice State Park. It has had a few iterations, early…read moreon it was more of a resort area. Then there were some summer training camps for various sports. In the 1960s the town encouraged the state to make a state park, and they did. And built up the facilities for tourists of course. I didn't see any camping, so not that kind of park. But on the water, nice walking trails, picnic areas and there's a pretty active boat launch.
