sushi was very mid. Rangoon tasted different...kinda curdled tasting. gyoza was good. No water in the fountain, just bottled to buy.

Basic flavorless asian food location. No egg rolls on the menu, rangoons were kinda sad. Filet was decent. Veggies were definitely meh. experience. Don't think it will be here very long.

The dish was ! It was not heavily sauced, not overpowered with seasonings, and as you see the presentation . The lady actually asked us, how was everything. You hardly get that in some $$$$ restaurants here in metro Bham!

I was in the mood for some Hibachi but wasn't really in the mood to go in a sit down to eat. This was my first time trying Otoro but I decided to give them a try because they had great reviews on DoorDash (I ordered pick up through DoorDash btw). Outside the restaurant it wasn't too busy, was easy to find, and easy to find parking too. When I first walked in I wasn't greeted but it was okay because the pick up process was easy. I told the woman at the front I was here for a pick up and it was ready within minutes. The service wasn't that great but the overall presentation of the meal was pretty good. The ambiance gives a casual pick-up restaurant with an option to dine in. Now on to the food, it was pretty good. The person who got the steak hibachi dinner said hers was pretty good, but she wishes it came with more steak. My shrimp and chicken combo was pretty good, the yum yum sauce was a great addition to the meal. The sushi rolls were okay, they lacked flavor and the tempura breading on my crunchy shrimp roll was a little on soggy side. My favorite part of the meal however was the spring rolls! I would definitely come back just for those. Overall my experience was okay, the price point certainly matches the service.

Shrimp Bento Box with all vegetables & Steak hibachi

You can order to go or dine in ordering at the front first. I got the shrimp bento box with all vegetables instead of rice and vegetables. It came with edamame, shrimp, sautéed mushrooms onions and broccoli, 2 California rolls, and a fried spring roll. The shrimp and vegetables were really good and the yum yum sauce and ginger sauce were great. The spring roll was okay. We also got the steak hibachi. Steak was fine, but not as good as the shrimp. The inside was clean and had good music. The service was quick and the employees were nice.

In my opinion there can not be too many Japanese style hibachi places. This recent addition to the Birmingham food scene is located on South Shades Crest Road right across from the YMCA. It's tucked away at the very end of a strip and almost not noticeable but for their bright string lights that they hung right outside above their outdoor seating area. This place reminds me a lot of OEC Japanese Express a few miles down John Hawkins Pkwy, but much larger in terms of seating (indoor and out) and more nicely decorated. Otoro's is also a "walk up" to counter to place your order. Their lighted menus above the order counter is massive. Their menu choices of "hibachi" and sushi are thorough. There's pretty much any combination of hibachi you can choose. Take a couple minutes to study their menu as they distinguish their different options with their Specials, Combos, Bowls, Boxes or Dinners. I was hungry so I opted for the Dinner of course which comes with noodles, veggies, rice and salad. I ordered our meals to-go so I can't comment on the service, but they seem very efficient and will bring your dishes to you after you find a seat. My shrimp dinner was very good. The large shrimp were cooked just right and my portions were massive. I feel like if I had eaten there I would've gotten even more food on an open plate. They can only fit so much in those to go boxes. Note to self: eat there next time. I had a nice portion of noodles as well as rice. The rice was a little bland by itself but eating with veggies and shrimp cured that dilemma quickly. Tammy tried the steak dinner. The cut of steak wasn't a filet, but it was cooked medium rare as she ordered and was a little cheaper. If you want the Filet mignon dinner it's only $3 more. Again, lots of food for 2 meals. Prices are trend on the higher side. I prefer traditional hibachi places like my favorite Stix where they cook in front of you and make large "fires" in your face and toss shrimp in your mouth, but if you need a "quick" healthy meal with most of the major food groups, this is the way to go. I look forward to trying sushi next time.

When we arrived, my friend asked how the All-You-Can-Eat (AYCE) option worked. After the server explained it, I made a lighthearted joke to my friend saying, "So, anything and as much as you want!" The server immediately snapped back with a rude comment about her manager not liking food waste. I told her it was just a joke between friends, but the attitude didn't stop there. When I tried to order a single bowl of ramen, she told me to get the AYCE dinner option instead, even though ramen is listed individually on the menu. Because I have a smaller appetite, iI told her it was good and I was sticking with the ramen. Later, my friend offered to share a piece of her sushi roll with me. The server cut in and rudely snapped that we weren't allowed to do that, stating that if I wanted anything else, I had to get the all you can eat. While we told her that I wasn't getting from her food we where just sharing because it was our first time there, she was sooo rude coming at us that we CAN'T. While I understand AYCE sharing rules, her delivery was incredibly hostile, argumentative, and unprofessional. It completely ruined our lunch break. I was looking forward to this place, but the terrible service ruined it.

I've never had anything I didn't like there, and I'm not afraid to experiment because you absolutely cannot beat all-you-can eat sushi for $30. My favorite things on the menu are the dragon ball and the yellowtail jalapeno. The coconut shrimp are unique and also delicious. My youngest isn't much of a sushi eater yet, but even he has plenty of options-- he usually goes for hibachi-- the hibachi meat is solid; the rice and noodles, not so much. Their clear soup is the best I've had in the city-- very flavorful and quite a large bowl. The ambiance is nice, but the place is small, so it can get crowded. Service is always great, even when it's crazy busy in there.

Unfortunately, our table was very unsteady and wobbled every time we rested an arm or hand on it. We probably should have asked to move, but we did let the staff know before leaving. Thomas was our server. He was very pleasant, though he seemed fairly new. I asked twice for lemon for my water but never received it. He did check on us after our meals arrived to make sure everything tasted good. The food was fresh and delicious! I ordered the Fire Crunch Roll and the Alaska Roll. Both were good, but the Fire Crunch was definitely my favorite. My son ordered the salmon hibachi and received a very generous portion. After we finished eating and requested a small takeout container, we sat talking for several more minutes. When Thomas didn't return with our check, we eventually walked to the counter to pay. He then said he could take care of it at the table, but we were already standing there and ready to leave. It made the ending feel a little awkward, and in the confusion, I accidentally left my container of sushi on the bar. Such a bummer! Overall, we had a good meal, and the food was definitely the highlight. With a little more attention to the service details and that wobbly table, the experience could have been even better.

By the time I ordered my food and saw it in front of me, this nice family of four arrived 10mn after I ordered, ate and left! The restaurant was not particularly busy. Was it because I am Asian? 2- The second time I went was with a friend visiting from Chicago. He LOVES sushi. So we, 2 older gentlemen, dressed in shorts and a Star Wars shirt, arrived at 4.40. Waited about 7mn by the hostess to get seating. We asked for a booth and the said "Sorry all booths are reserved from 5pm" I knew that was a lie as which restaurant has all their booths reserved at the same time. She asked if we didn't mind seating at the sushi bar. Normally this is where they seat people when it's packed, or when they want to hide you. My friend was cool about it so we did. Again, the restaurant was not particularly busy. Upon leaving at 5.20, just a few of the booth were occupied. So yeah, the hostess lied. I wished I got her name. 3- The food was ok to good. Not a single Japanese chef in view. I lived in NY and Honolulu, and I can tell you when a sushi is good. Our waitress was fantastic and very helpful though. 4- I wonder how I will get treated when I go in a casual business attire. My take is that it is a very snobby place. I bet if you look like have money, they will service you well. If not they will reluctantly. Bottom line, do not waste your time. Service/food is inconsistent.

I immediately knew that I was going to be happy with my decision to eat here. I started off with the Shrimp gyozas. Since most gyozas are made with pork, I cannot remember eating shrimp gyozas before, and these were phenomenal. I highly recommend that you give them a try. I was pretty hungry, so I decided to order the Sashimi Deluxe dinner. 21 pieces of sashimi seemed pretty ambitious. If I had known how thick the sushi was going to be, I probably would've gone for a smaller dinner, but I'm glad that I didn't know because it was amazing. As for dessert, I always go with Red Bean ice cream. For those of you who have never tried red bean ice cream - you have GOT to try it. I don't know what breed of red beans go into this delicious dessert, but it is amazing and incredibly refreshing.
