sushi was very mid. Rangoon tasted different...kinda curdled tasting. gyoza was good. No water in the fountain, just bottled to buy.

Basic flavorless asian food location. No egg rolls on the menu, rangoons were kinda sad. Filet was decent. Veggies were definitely meh. experience. Don't think it will be here very long.

The dish was ! It was not heavily sauced, not overpowered with seasonings, and as you see the presentation . The lady actually asked us, how was everything. You hardly get that in some $$$$ restaurants here in metro Bham!

I was in the mood for some Hibachi but wasn't really in the mood to go in a sit down to eat. This was my first time trying Otoro but I decided to give them a try because they had great reviews on DoorDash (I ordered pick up through DoorDash btw). Outside the restaurant it wasn't too busy, was easy to find, and easy to find parking too. When I first walked in I wasn't greeted but it was okay because the pick up process was easy. I told the woman at the front I was here for a pick up and it was ready within minutes. The service wasn't that great but the overall presentation of the meal was pretty good. The ambiance gives a casual pick-up restaurant with an option to dine in. Now on to the food, it was pretty good. The person who got the steak hibachi dinner said hers was pretty good, but she wishes it came with more steak. My shrimp and chicken combo was pretty good, the yum yum sauce was a great addition to the meal. The sushi rolls were okay, they lacked flavor and the tempura breading on my crunchy shrimp roll was a little on soggy side. My favorite part of the meal however was the spring rolls! I would definitely come back just for those. Overall my experience was okay, the price point certainly matches the service.

Shrimp Bento Box with all vegetables & Steak hibachi

You can order to go or dine in ordering at the front first. I got the shrimp bento box with all vegetables instead of rice and vegetables. It came with edamame, shrimp, sautéed mushrooms onions and broccoli, 2 California rolls, and a fried spring roll. The shrimp and vegetables were really good and the yum yum sauce and ginger sauce were great. The spring roll was okay. We also got the steak hibachi. Steak was fine, but not as good as the shrimp. The inside was clean and had good music. The service was quick and the employees were nice.

If you have a phone number on a door hopefully it is the LOCATION of your restaurant. I have placed multiple orders to what is say on the door is your phone number. To show up and never get any food or have food ready. Change the phone number on your door so that people will know who they are calling. The poor Homewood location is loosing tons of money cause we think we call 1 location and it is actually a totally different location.

In my opinion there can not be too many Japanese style hibachi places. This recent addition to the Birmingham food scene is located on South Shades Crest Road right across from the YMCA. It's tucked away at the very end of a strip and almost not noticeable but for their bright string lights that they hung right outside above their outdoor seating area. This place reminds me a lot of OEC Japanese Express a few miles down John Hawkins Pkwy, but much larger in terms of seating (indoor and out) and more nicely decorated. Otoro's is also a "walk up" to counter to place your order. Their lighted menus above the order counter is massive. Their menu choices of "hibachi" and sushi are thorough. There's pretty much any combination of hibachi you can choose. Take a couple minutes to study their menu as they distinguish their different options with their Specials, Combos, Bowls, Boxes or Dinners. I was hungry so I opted for the Dinner of course which comes with noodles, veggies, rice and salad. I ordered our meals to-go so I can't comment on the service, but they seem very efficient and will bring your dishes to you after you find a seat. My shrimp dinner was very good. The large shrimp were cooked just right and my portions were massive. I feel like if I had eaten there I would've gotten even more food on an open plate. They can only fit so much in those to go boxes. Note to self: eat there next time. I had a nice portion of noodles as well as rice. The rice was a little bland by itself but eating with veggies and shrimp cured that dilemma quickly. Tammy tried the steak dinner. The cut of steak wasn't a filet, but it was cooked medium rare as she ordered and was a little cheaper. If you want the Filet mignon dinner it's only $3 more. Again, lots of food for 2 meals. Prices are trend on the higher side. I prefer traditional hibachi places like my favorite Stix where they cook in front of you and make large "fires" in your face and toss shrimp in your mouth, but if you need a "quick" healthy meal with most of the major food groups, this is the way to go. I look forward to trying sushi next time.

Consistent 5-Star Excellence! Outstanding Food, Massive Portions, and Great Value…read more Every single time we visit this spot, they absolutely knock it out of the park. If you want a flawlessly executed steakhouse dinner in the Birmingham area without the pretentious price tag, this is your place. I ordered the 12oz ribeye with a baked potato, and both were cooked exactly to order. My wife started with their huge, fresh house salad before tackling the massive 16oz ribeye and a fully loaded baked potato. Honestly, the 16oz cut looked like something straight out of The Flintstones--it was beautifully charred, incredibly juicy, and absolutely massive. The service matched the stellar quality of the kitchen. Our waitress was incredibly attentive and kept my sweet tea topped off the entire night (which is no easy task!). We wrapped up the evening with a slice of chocolate cake. It was literally the size of a diner-style napkin dispenser--decadent, moist, and downright delicious. Budget-wise, it's a high-end steakhouse experience, so expect to spend a little money. However, compared to other premium steakhouses around Birmingham, their pricing is incredibly fair and easily on the lower end of the fine-dining spectrum. You get amazing portions, top-tier quality, and fantastic service. Highly recommended!

Tried the dirty martini, but tasted more like an extra dirty... Not my fav but still good. Our group ordered several apps to go with the drinks. Everything was amazing. I always find the food good, but the waiters/waitresses not totally with it. The runners have more personality.

Between 3.5-4 stars Saltgrass was not very busy upon entering. They had a birthday party, about 3 other tables in the main dining room, 4 bar booths and then me at the bar. Pretty bare considering the size of the space and amount of tables throughout. The gentleman and young lady working the bar area were attentive while assisting throughout other sections of the restaurant. I was warmly greeted and promptly given both my water and bread while giving me a moment to skim through the menu. I landed on the 22 oz porterhouse (medium rare), mashed potatoes and caesar salad with dressing on the side. The portion of the side salad was smaller than I was used to at saltgrass, my steak was medium on the NY strip side and medium rare on the filet mignon side (inconsistent temperature), potatoes were fine. Overall flavor was as expected. The staff themselves were great. They seemed to work well together. Bathroom stall (first stall in Women's) does not have a lock (missing slide bolt), some toilet paper needed to be picked up (very minimal), paper towels/napkins were running low, clean otherwise.

He was friendly, efficient, and attentive but not overtly so. We ended up having ribeye with onion tangles and sweet potato, NY strip with baked potato and grilled vegetables, and cheesecake with fresh strawberry preserve. Everything was tasty actually and exceeded my expectations, to be honest. I will say the seasoning on the steak and grilled vegetables were rather heavy-handed, so if you like things lightly seasoned, you may want to mention that. Their cheesecake is better than Cheesecake Factory's to my preference. Definitely give that a try! Dejean also mentioned that they have brunch every last Sunday of the month and the menu sounds yummy. We do plan to try that out in the near future. We decided to come on a Friday night I did make reservations beforehand and I highly suggest making them especially on the weekend and you can make them online through their website. On this evening, they had Tyler Giddens playing his keyboard and singing along. He was very good and I was able to chat with his wife and she told me that he plays around town so I definitely look forward to hearing his music again. Fowler was our server and he was very attentive. We started off with the brussels sprouts and the pork belly nachos. They were both equally delicious. Last time I was here I got the chicken tacos and I was so impressed. I got them again. My son got the Mac burger, which he completely devoured. My brother got the short ribs which he enjoyed. He also got a to go Mac burger as well. This time instead of Mississippi mud pie I got the monkey bread which was very delicious and it had apples in it as well. I love how the staff gets to wear whatever they want, and they can express their style. I did visit the restrooms and they were very clean. The only negative is sometimes the parking lot is real busy and if it is, you kinda have to park across the street. It's not a far walk but a lot of the drivers at the Summit area. Only took me two years but I finally had a chance to sample!…read more As much as I hated Macaroni Grill leaving, I was excited to hear that Culinary Dropout was going to be in Birmingham. Sharing a parking lot with PF Changs at the Summit, CD has ample parking and right at the corner of 280 and 459 so finding the place would not be a problem. It's actually in a great location at the Summit where you can have a nice meal, then head over to the AMC practically next door for a movie or go shopping at the shops at the Summit. Backed by James Beard-nominated restaurateur Sam Fox, CD now has 13 locations nationwide with this one opening back in March of 2024. Thus, the restaurant looks great with high vaulted ceilings, brick patterned walls and a clean contemporary look with booths and tables scattered throughout. There's a nice large bar that serves beer, wine and cocktails. Above the bar are large screen tvs and to the side is a small carved out area with a small stage for live entertainment. They can entertain group dining and with the tvs, bar and a stage, a nice gathering can be had for all. Outdoor covered seating is also available making a cool weather brunch outside a nice option. Their menu is diverse but comprehensive and include everything sandwiches and soups to pastas and burgers. Some of the stand-outs on their menu include Detroit Pizza, Fried Chicken, Rainbow Trout, Roasted Salmon, Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Korean Style Ribeye, Meatloaf and 36 Hour Slow Roasted Pork Ribs marinated in jalapeno BBQ sauce. One of my favorites was the Soft Pretzels & Provolone Fondue starter that I had heard so much about. The bowl of round pretzel balls coated with just the right amount of salt arrived soon after our drinks. A small little cast iron bowl filled with provolone cheese rested on a base with a tea light underneath to keep the cheese warm. Tearing open a pretzel ball, dipping in the cheese... Yom Yom Yom Yom! Our table ordered Fish & Chips, Prime Rib Dip sandwich and Fried Chicken. I tried some of Jeff's beer battered fish. Fried to a beautiful golden brown, the crispy batter hid a tender, flaky cod (I believe) that was delicious. Tammy got the prime rib dip sandwich. It arrived with a small cup of au jus, fries and a slice of pickle. Tammy enjoyed her sandwich but wished there was a little more fontina cheese and horseradish creme fraiche. I sampled the fried chicken plate. Be ready to get messy with your hands because it normally consists of a leg, thigh and half of a breast. The nicely fried seasoned breaded exterior had just the right crunch revealing steaming juicy chicken underneath. Yom Yom Yom Yom. My buttermilk biscuit had a nice golden coat with a soft fluffy center. The coleslaw was also delicious. But my mash potatoes with gravy was dry. If we had received our meal 10 mins earlier, it would've been perfect. I suspect that our four top was left under the warming lamp a little too long before it was served. Prices have a wide range from 12 to 42. CD's ability to make a reservation online is a big plus. We were able to make a reservation the day of on a busy holiday weekend. It also happened to be storming during our visit and the lights even flickered for a second resetting their Direct TV and FIFA Soccer feeds, but we were fortunate that the restaurant and kitchen didn't have to close due to a power failure. It can get loud especially if they have live entertainment. The high ceiling helps with the high decibels, but CD may not be your spot for a quiet romantic dinner unless you're in one of their private rooms. Our server Eva was very attentive and never let our drinks get too low. Even the floor manager Taylor stopped by our table to welcome us. CD is a great place for a good time. They host live music, local bands, games, private dining and group celebrations. I look forward to returning and trying the Salmon next time. Welcome to Birmingham, Culinary Dropout!

My friends arrived about 15 minutes before I did and were seated on the patio. When I arrived, the hostess escorted me to join them. After sitting there for more than 35 minutes, not a single employee acknowledged our table. No server stopped by, no one offered water, and no one checked to see if we had been helped. We were essentially invisible. I finally had to get up and speak with the hostess, who immediately moved us inside. The manager came over, apologized sincerely for the oversight, and offered us a complimentary appetizer, which I appreciated. While he handled the situation professionally once he became aware of it, it should never have reached that point in the first place. What was most disappointing wasn't the wait--it was feeling completely ignored. At a restaurant known for its exceptional service and premium dining experience, being overlooked for over half an hour without even a glass of water is unacceptable. I've always had excellent experiences at other Perry's locations, so this visit was especially surprising. After being seated in the bar area, we were informed by our server that only appetizers were available. If the kitchen is no longer able or willing to prepare full menu items well before closing, that policy should be clearly communicated--either through adjusted hours or by informing guests upon arrival. Otherwise, it creates the impression of inconsistent operations or a lack of coordination between management and staff. Situations like this suggest a need for clearer operational standards, better communication, and stronger staff alignment with customer service expectations. Overall, the experience reflects an opportunity for improvement in both management practices and customer hospitality.
