been going to Otto Friedl since 1969 when bought my girlfriend a Tissot from Otto himself . Did ten years in the Uk at which time my Heuer Autavia needed a new mainspring which Otto did with aplomb. 1n 1988 bought a 2nd hand Omega Seamaster ( day/date/sqr faced) from Otto and it has never been to any other store for anything. I came here to get my Datejust fixed as a spring broke affecting the watch date function. Their competitor quoted me at $520 to fix the spring and service the watch, Otto Friedl quoted me at $60 as the watch "kept perfect time and didn't need a service" - id like to add that BOTH places opened the watch! i'll be taking my business to Otto Friedl from now on for their honesty, integrity and workmanship, the other place wanted me to pay his rent! read more

Very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful staff here at Otto Friedl. Great location, right downstairs in the Fairmont at Burrard/W Georgia. Little known consignment operation for (mostly vintage) Swiss watches which come with a 1-year warranty and offers fair market pricing (plus some great deals). They carry standard Hirsch straps, but also a large variety of other straps :) I've yet to buy something or have something serviced, but I'm a happy shopper and inquirer so far. Otto Friedl has been maintaining and repairing my collection of watches for over 30 years now since I first learned about them from Norbert and Gisela Brinkhaus at Brinkhaus Jewellers Calgary, and in Vancouver. In 1986, I had purchased my Cartier Santos Dumont from Gisela and had my Les Must de Cartier Vendôme watch stem re-plated with 18K gold purchased from Cartier. I had thought the watch repairs were completed by Cartier in Toronto but Gisela informed me that Otto Friedl in fact was the Vancouver Authorized watch repair for Cartier as well as other watches. Since that time, I have been going directly to Otto Friedl and working with Crystal and the staff at Otto. They are professional, trustworthy, and completely top notch in terms of workmanship, customer service, and very reasonable prices. Likewise, they are NOT representative of the typical high end service business which tends to overcharge for work done and/or charge minimal service fees for any repair estimates or immediately fixable issues with one's high end watch. My collection includes many 8 Cartier watches, Omega Seamaster and Speedmaster, Franck Muller Grand Banker, Rolex Daytona, A. Lange & Söhne Saxonia, Panerai Illuminor 1950, IWC Portugieser, and a V. I brought my Rolex President in to be assessed as I couldn't move the hands. These folks determined the issue and replaced the spring with original Rolex parts. The staff are very knowledgeable, courteous, and do not mind if you only come in to browse. Although this is a high-end watch store, they have a number of vintage/second-hand pieces, many of which are very reasonably priced. I purchased my first Rolex here and have brought my watch back for a few small watch band adjustments, all of which they performed free even though it had been months after my original purchase. I have good quality watch that I had a little accidend with that I only noticed after the fact :the acrylic glass had what I thought a break in it.I took it to this watch repair store after a very polite,nice lady assured me on the phone that they can replace it at a reasonable price.Since it is my favorite watch,I took it to the store.Upon examining it,they immediately concluded that it may not have broken,only scratched and that the gentleman was going to see if he can just bluff it out.He worked a good 10-15 minutes on it and gave me back the watch looking perfectly faultless,so he was successful in his prediction.When I prepared to pay HE SAID IT WAS FREE and accepted no money for his work.Now I ask you:where in the world do you get service like this.If I could I would give more stars I am so surprised and grateful.You don't get better than this.Five stars are not enough.Thank you Otto Friedl ever so much!!! I've been to the store on several occasions, and the staff has been friendly, even for a window shopper just passing by. There is no issue in this regard. My specific review is do with consignment. I've been through the consignment process with OF. At stake was my Rolex sub, with full box and papers, hardly worn, hardly a scratch. Naturally, I had a selling price in mind. This wasn't something I was selling for a profit, in fact I was taking some loss. I was open minded going in, and wanted the store's feedback on how to price the item. The discussion around the pricing is where the problem was. In summary, the appraiser/owner felt I should come down significantly lower than what I had in mind. Again, my price was already below MSRP (with no tax factored in). I would have understood if he recommended a slight adjustment, but that was not the case. I did not go in holding firm the Rolex mystique that one should get what one paid for, if not more, when selling a Rolex. My price was reduced to account for the fact that my watch is a used watch. Simple as that. All in all, a poor experience as far as consignment goes. read more

Was formerly a Rolex certified watch service agent until Rolex centeralized their operations & did not renew their certification. I went to Brinkhaus who was certified but some of their work is sent to Toronto if theyre too busy even though they said mostly done in house. My wifes Rolex was aquired not through a high overhead dealer like B/H but not stolen either. It was losing time a bit & so I brought it to Otto fredl for servive. They did a full service on it & now it runs perfectly. Cost $400 vs $700+ at B/H and polished it to look like new. Less 1 star b/ c invoice was simple & was not clear in writing what they did. Under the Hotel Vancouver & less than a block from Brinkhaus. Like an old European shop & very trustworthy. read more

Great experience here at Otto Friedl - was helped by Crystal and was provided with excellent service. Had a heck of a time taking off the strap on my Rolex Explorer and they were able to do it within a few minutes. It's a small place and it can get pretty busy but that just shows how popular they are :) read more

I only heard of this place because my coworker takes her high end watches here to replace the batteries. My mum had just recently passed along her Tudor watch from the early 70s to me and it had a broken clasp. I took it here and Colleen who helped me, was so knowledgable and pleasant. The clasp was difficult to replace due it's size but she was able to find a replacement and also sized the bracelet to fit me. She was also very helpful when we looked at the second hand Rolexes. Not pretentious or pushy at all. Definitely recommend this place to get your special watches fixed. read more

I had brought my Cartier to Otto Friedl for years to replace the battery and general servicing. For some unknown reason, each replacement battery lasted less than 2 years. A friend who has the same make and model doesn't have the same battery issue so I would have to conclude that it's this establishment. I find the service cold and impersonal. As I have had my battery replaced there at least 4 times over a 10 year period, my patience has come to an end. My last experience was the straw that broke the camel's back. She promised that the watch would be done in 5 business days. I have no issues with this. I go to pick it up on the 6th business day on my lunch hour and she argues with me that she made no such promise and that the watch wasn't done yet. That afternoon she calls and says it's ready. No apology, no explanation. I pick up the watch (she wasn't in front this time) and it took me a few days to notice that the bezel with roman numerals where off centre! read more

If you're young, and don't dress like a millionaire you will be discriminated against. This was absolutely brutal. Was told they will only replace or fix a part if you do the full service. Something that takes less than 20 minutes. Went to get a crown replacement for my Rolex, they told me they had the part (impossible to find otherwise) but will not install unless a full service is done at an outrageous price. Right after overhearing them quote multiple parts for repair on a gentlemen's Cartier watch before me. Hungry for your business, not genuine and and very condescending. Maybe because I do not look like I have money they're unaware of my ownership of Patek, Cartier, Omega, and others. not recommend. The technician was willing to do something realistic for me to help me out until he was told not to by the other man and woman behind the counter, even the tech speaking to me thought something so simple and doable being denied was ridiculous. I was also told "Rolex would never just fix the part they would do a full service". You are not Rolex, you are watch repair. Go to yaletown for the better service and watchmaker read more
