LOVE THIS PLACE. I heard about Ottolenghi from a gourmet messageboard I am a member on. I even ordered his vegetarian cookbook, "Plenty", based off of what people were saying. I've prepared a handful of his dishes and LOVED them all so I knew when I came back to London I had to eat here. Everything was beautifully presented. So full of colors, so fresh, so inviting. You could never present plates of food in the open air like that here in the US, but I thought it was gorgeous!!! All of the salads I tried were amazing. Aaaaaamazing. His food point of view is exactly like mine. I loved everything. The only negatives: Pricey, but hey, it's London, and it's an expensive area of London! Service wasn't exactly the best. We had to wait a long time for them to plate up our salads and the server rarely came by. Our water glasses were always empty and we had to flag him down if we needed anything. I love this bakery! It was so quaint and so welcoming as you enter the door. It was like walking into a movie set. Super cute!! Every day they have new items and if they run out that's it. Prices are high but it was nice to try a few pieces. I stopped by at 10am and many of the pastries were sold out. My choices were 1 chocolate chip cookie and a slice of carrot cake. It was 13 Pounds. Absolutely embarrassing customer service experience. Get food from the one in Notting Hill every week and the staff are polite and attentive there- went to the Motcomb street branch today and it was awful. We walked in and stood at the salads for at least 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us- there was a woman stacking boxes and 2 people at the register and they didn't even look up. Even after I said hello twice the woman stacking the boxes continued doing what she was doing and didn't say hello back. When she was finished a few minutes later she stood up and said sarcastically "Hello". Beyond rude and unapologetic. With such amazing food it's unfortunate the experience is coupled with such low quality customer service. read more

Our first stop for food in London. The presentation in the restaurant is eye candy. You'll want a taste of everything! Together we had six different salads and two proteins and we shared everything. Fresh, flavorful, memorable. I would go back in a heartbeat. Plus, I got several of the oat and date bars to go. My girlfriend and I swung by here for a quick lunch bite before heading out to London for some sightseeing. It's definitely set up more as a bakery - lots of pastries and other things for your sweet tooth up front, with a big round table for common seating inside (I think there's additional outdoor seating in the back, but it was raining lightly). Service was okay, but I think if I were to come back, I would grab a box of food to go instead - it does feel pretty small. As for the food itself - it was pretty good overall, but I think that the lunch special is a bit pricey based on the amount of food you can get. A main dish plus 2 sides (or salads, as they are called here) costs 13 pounds, which for us Yanks is the equivalent of $20. I could get a cheaper lunch with arguably the same (or better) quality of food - and more of it - for less in NY. The seared beef is very good, but the cream sauce that was served with it was a little bit on the heavy side and covered up the natural flavor of the beef. The potatoes were also well-done, but again - served with an ill-advised heaping of heavier-than-expected cream sauce. I wouldn't mind a little, but there was too much in my opinion. On the other hand, my girlfriend's tuna was served with a delicious sauce (it tasted a little like Italian dressing, only better) and would definitely be my choice on a second go-around. I also got a pain au chocolat - it was light and flaky, but nothing has come close to comparing to the one served at Tartine Bakery in San Francisco. It also costs me the equivalent of $6 here - pretty expensive for a regular-sized croissant. The food here is decent, but the lunch special is a bit expensive for what it comes with. It's a nice little shop just off of Hyde Park, though, and the snacks looked tasty at the front. I might stick with those next time. read more

Ottolenghi is a quaint little shop with food that is laid out for your viewing pleasure. I saw the treats first, and got the blackberry vanilla cupcake. Also on display were trays of vegetable dishes that all looked lovely. I got myself a squash and a broccoli medley. The cupcake was incredible, the cake itself was moist and generously filled with blackberries and the icing was delectable! It was incredibly whippy, creamy, and not too sweet. I really enjoyed it. The vegetable dishes tasted very fresh and were very satisfying. I would come here again for a healthy and delicious little snack. read more

I have given up trying to have a coffee or lunch here, the one table is just not big enough, and the staff are too dim to ask the ignorant yummy mummys who allow their horrors to take 2 seats each to sit together, and quietly, so someone else might share the facilities. Its rare that I buy cake, as I usually make better myself. One thing I can't beat is Ottolenghi's Lemon Mascarpone Tart. It is superb. Doesnt travel well, so dont rely on being able to fib that you made it yourself when you get it home! Also totally amazing is the Caramel fingers with Macadamia and Coconut- wrapped in red and white tissue, these chewy caramels are super salty and honey sweet, totally addictive. read more
