A great local bookstore. There is like 1 maybe 2 people that seem to work here. The shelves are loaded with all types of books from woodworking to youth fiction to historical works. Just everything under the sun, and they all seem very fairly priced. My son found a number of great kids books, I found a book on Mission style furniture making, and my wife found a number of novels she was interested in. This place is MAGIC! Absolutely the neatest, most organized book store I've ever been in. The selection is amazing - and the condition of the books is beautiful. I could get lost for hours! My mom has randomly asked me if I knew a used bookstore with old vet manuals (like for cows, etc) and I happened to walk by this place a couple days later, so I popped in. I found several OLD (1904-ish) farm vet type books. Upon checking out, I told the owner how thrilled I was to find them, and he recommended I go upstairs, second door, second shelf from the top, closest to the window.... he knows every book in the place! And word is he has another warehouse full of books!! They're only open 11-5 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so I plan to go back at 10:59 with snacks and stay the duration. This bookstore is HEAVEN. I stumbled upon it by chance, I called to make an apt with Chris because a book in the window caught my eye. I was not prepared for what I was about to experience when I walked it. $250 later I walked out with an entirely new book library with me. The selection is stellar and the prices are so good u just want to buy everything. I looked at records and art books and found gorgeous publications from my favorite artist! read more

This store is overflowing to maximum capacity with books. I love that even the guest bathroom for you to use has books everywhere. Also, upstairs, there are even more books and even in the bathroom up there. The owner pretty much leaves you alone to browns at your leisure and enjoy yourself. It's very cramped in there but it's worth squeezing in to check out all the offerings. There must have been at least 5-6 books I wanted just by Ernest Hemingway alone! This is a fine bookshop, or used to be when it was regularly opened, but currently (1/23) the owner is nuts about covid, a true hypochondriac apparently. It's a fine shop but I've given up on it: you either run a business or you don't rather than hide from some minor passing annoyance. Get the shots and forgot about it. Suggest CatNap Books in Cobleskill or Whitman Books in Middleburgh. It's really too bad. If you do get inside, better not sneeze. read more

This tiny bookshop is meticulous and definitely a go-to for bibliophiles. It is not your run-of-the-mill scattered and disorganized local store run by a hermetic sociopath-- this man is a mad genius. 'WPA guides?' 'Look there, above, to the left.' 'Contract bridge?' 'Walk halfway up the stairs to the gaming section, the bottom shelf along with the chess books.' 'Old leather bound prints?' 'Check the toilette (literally).' Not only does he have a wide array of old and out-of-print books, but they are categorized and organized into every crevice of this old house. The organization is an oddity to behold unto itself. The ends of bookcases and doorways get specially constructed narrow and shallow shelves. Built-ins are cut out above doorways and up staircases. There is effectively a crown molding of books in every room. You continue upstairs to find a reference library that doubles as a functioning bathroom. You get the distinct sense that this man lives with books and loves them. It really is a sight to behold. read more

One of the best used bookstores ever. Very selective. And a very nice and unusual selection. For example, they had Djuna Barnes's short stories, which I did not know existed, but not Nightwood. All other bookstores would have Nightwood only. They have a fascinating section about bridges and sailing. All the sections are small given the small size of the shop. But each is highly refined and thoughtfully put together. Like a very interesting person's private book collection. No filler here. Highly recommend. read more

A rare gem of a used bookshop located in the sweet Village of Saugerties. Do not miss it.

Saugerties is sorta out of my way, but I make an effort to visit the town at least every few years, and, as a confirmed bibliophile, this is always my go-to place when I do visit. In my experience, this is a totally unique bookstore, with books crammed into every room and hallway (and bathroom) of what was, and still might be (I've never been able to determine if someone is still living somewhere in this house), someone's home. The only room not containing books is the kitchen in the back (and maybe the attic). Yes-- I've used the toilet while perusing the shelves stacked with books all around me (and, yes, I did wash my hands before actually flipping through the books contained in that room; hopefully everyone using the facilities will be equally fastidious). Now, if THAT'S not unique in a bookstore, what is? In addition to the wide variety of books on every topic (fairly priced), there's a large selection of used CD's, as well as magazines, and sometimes even comic books. Chris Evans...I believe that's his name and I believe he's the owner...is gracious and pleasant. If you're anywhere in the area, and you love...or even just like...books, this should be a mandatory stop. Just check the times and days they're open before you stop in. I made the mistake of coming here on a Monday when they were closed (I'm from NJ, so it's not a short trip). I think they're only open on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, but check, because that might have changed since I was here last (in the spring). read more

I loved this place!! its full of books no matter where you walk or where your eye lands. The bathrooms are also full of books which is a nice touch! The owner of this bookstore is really sweet too, we had a conversation about the bookstore and it turned out that he lives there! The only downside to my visit was that I could make up my mind as to what to buy!! I was in there for so long!! but I did end up buying a couple of books! Go check it out!! read more
