They gave me the (long) number attached to her. I could call in any day and give the number to see if she had been adopted. He also told us that she got a cage with a dog run, along side three other little dogs. Sounded nice. I recommended the center to a friend looking for a dog.

I adopted him at 10 weeks (which I believe is too young but the dog's parent were not at shelter). I was deceived by the workers who said the puppy was very healthy, he only needed his rabies shot). He seemed to have had kennel cough which I was going to make an appointment for. Sadly his symptoms were too bad to wait for a vet so I took him to the ER. Thousands of dollars later, they said his kennel cough turned into severe pneumonia and they said his chances of survival were extremely low even with treatment. I am heart broken for my puppy who was failed by the people who surrendered him and also this shelter the puppy ended up at. He also had two siblings who are currently still at the shelter who probably have severe pneumonia now too. I do not recommend Barely Used Pets.

The first cat we got was sweet and such a nice cat, but not neutered. The second cat we named Osama Bin Kitty, the attack cat. After about 3 weeks we returned him as he constantly attacked everything & everyone. Then we moved to Indiana. About 6 months later we received a notice that if we didn't show records that the first cat was neutered, an arrest warrant would be issued for us. We had to travel back to Troy to have the cat neutered and the records provided to them. That was the last time for us.

We adopted the sweetest cat in spring of 2025. She is such a loving cat, always wanting to snuggle…read morein someone's lap. She's sweet and playful and keeps us laughing. She was a little shy at first but quickly warmed up to us and our other cat. We also use the vet service at the Humane Society as they were already familiar with her history. There are so many wonderful animals at the shelter just waiting for someone to adopt them and love them - and to love you back! We can't imagine life without her now.

They had like 20 puppies in one room with also a full grown dog.. unorganized for real. But no one and nothing will convince me that this shelter didn't know those poor babies weren't sick. I called and let them know so they could at least call the people who adopted the other puppies to keep an eye on them.. she didn't sound shocked that one was dead when we told her what was happening.

Terrible system that requires you to set up everything through eventbright, which is a pain of its own. I volunteer at AFHS and it took going to one meeting, then going back one time and working with one of their mentors for about an hour to get you going on the easy dogs, then was just as simple to move up to the next level of dogs. I guess they must have all the volunteers they need to make this such a difficult experience.

Since they are older the cat they were trying to adopt was 7 years old! ASPCA says in 2024 273,000 cats were euthanized, but my parents couldn't free up a space for one more to survive. Shame on this facility for not actually trying to place animals in appropriate homes. I pray for the sweet animals in their care.

There were three sections of vendors with lots of pet food samples, treats, and toys. There are also vendors selling great pet products, local dog rescues and everything dog related you can think of. The line for the Kong bag was worth the wait.

I think it was the attention she got but I don't know, she enjoyed seeing all the vendors there that day too. Bella tells me her favorite vendors were the ones with the tennis balls they gave away. Those were her favorite toys at this event. She didn't care about the treats, that was an extra. (I know we have a strange dog here not caring too much about all the free treats at over 20 booths but she had fun!) Bella and I took home lots of treats, toys and food from vendors like Pet People, Mutts and Co, doggie day cares, etc. She was even kind enough to share her food and treats she received with her friends. See she does have a good heart sometimes! My girl even got a signature from the local news anchors Karina Nova and Molly Brewer from 10TV. I cannot wait to come back next year and experience all the vendors from pet stores to trainers, local media stations, etc. We had so much fun and appreciate all the time and attention these vendors put into this event to make it a great day!

Ps they did shots, ear mites, and educated us on his total lack of teeth which i admit we missed. They even removed an that was damaged beyond repair. One eyed Willie was very grateful for their help.

I was looking for a small, female dog for my best friend, and after a year of looking, found one…read morehere. On a Friday, I was working with a very nice lady who worked there. Told her the dog was for my friend and I was going to adopt her and give it to my friend rather than drive all the way back to pick up my friend to have her do it. Because I don't have current rabies vaccinations on my all indoor dogs (never have any outside time, what's the point?), I was denied. So the next day I brought in my friend and she adopted the dog. When I stepped outside, David announced to everyone there about me, not to my face but behind my back, "She's scamming us!!" My friend told me as I was taking her and the dog to her house. I wrote e-mails to Dave many times telling him I was not scamming anyone and the woman I was working with the day before would vouch for me, but I have never received a reply back. I did not deserve that, especially behind my back. He assumed since I was denied that I brought someone in to adopt the dog and give it to me. It's completely backwards. I wanted to adopt in order to give to my friend. That behind my back comment was made out of misinformation and I deserve better than what I got over there.
