The shop is a hidden gem with a warm and inviting atmosphere. While Ewe and I is mainly a yarn store, they also have supplies for spinning, weaving, and felting, as well as craft classes. One side of the shop is Shonda's Food Cafe with hand pies, coffee, and baked goods. There are tables where you can sit and eat, but they were all taken when I was there on a Saturday in the late morning. They offer gorgeous yarn, such as the Alp Natural in the photos. The staff is kind and helpful, cheerfully winding my yarn without complaint and talking about possible patterns I could use with the yarn. I wish I lived near this shop so I could visit often.

Half of the store is for fiber crafts and the other half is a gift shop with vintage-style offerings like drinking glasses, clothes, accessories, candleholders, and more. I really liked their yarn selection because I don't care for knitting with wool and they had lots of cotton, silk, and bamboo. Their prices are reasonable. I fell in love with yarn called Bamboo Bloom and bought two skeins. The woman who rang me up kindly gave me a copy of a pattern to knit with the yarn, a cute cowl. A knitting class was taking place near the back of the shop while we were there. I eavesdropped and was impressed with the instructor. Much like the other yarn stores I visited while vacationing in Washington, I wish I lived nearby so I could visit there more often.

We went into the store and of course had to buy something. 3 year old picked out an alpaca stuffy and grandma got a hot pad and a coaster made of alpaca fiber. We had a great time.

From the old, old shopping center in the 80s by JC Penny, to the small location by IKEA and then this one, I've been a customer and followed them, literally, since 1986, and learned how to read a pattern through classes that were worth the 30 minute drive to get there, even with a houseful of babies. Got a question? I encourage you to call and ask. You won't be disappointed. I've been told "we'd love to see you but we don't have that in stock right now." The honesty is refreshing. Do they seem busy? Speak up; they're just waiting to hear what you need and will get to you as soon as they can. The best experience is to allow ample time to browse. You'll won't be nagged while deciding on the perfect pattern, and they'll gladly help you choose the perfect yarn to make it, if you can't decide which yarn on your own. I'm treating myself to a special trip just for yarn tomorrow; my birthday present to myself. I can't wait! I'll probably still miss Wynne, but I hope I'm still around to see these ladies retire and pass the store on to the employees who will buy it in the future.

The owner is the most friendly guy and I once met a lovely friendly woman working too! There is no hand dyed yarn here, instead this shop carries online yarn, but in store. (For example, ICE yarn) There is some Lion Brand and Red Heart, but he carries varieties that I never see in box stores. I love that you can see online yarn in person. Technically it is a tiny more expensive this way, but you save on shipping costs and can feel the yarn in person first! There are also lots of accessories available for sale, and LOTS of books! The owner is also very good about recognizing both knitters AND crocheters! (Unlike some yarn stores..) Overall, I recommend this store. There is SO MUCH yarn inside. And if you can't make it to Des Moines, there is an online Amazon store!
