As a first-time parent, choosing the right preschool was an important and intimidating decision--and Our Village Preschool (OVP) has exceeded every expectation. From the very beginning, the staff has been thoughtful, observant, loving, caring, kind, and incredibly communicative. Our child has severe, life-threatening food allergies, and naturally, we were extremely anxious about sending them to school. But the team at OVP has consistently reassured us with their diligence and attentiveness. They follow every safety protocol we've provided, and whenever our child tries a new food, they communicate clearly and promptly about how our child is responding throughout the day. Their careful, compassionate approach has helped us feel confident that our child is in safe hands and that they are part of the community and team setting our child up for success long term in the world. As someone with experience working at a preschool, I truly admire how well this school is run. There is a clear emphasis on organization, intention, and respect for the children's growth and well-being. I especially appreciate how they celebrate a diverse range of holidays and integrate STEAM projects and activities into the curriculum--it's a beautiful blend of cultural learning and creativity. We have been attending OVP for two years. The philosophy aligned with my parenting style. The kids do sensory play tables , water play (during the summer months), play outside, garden, cook snack on Fridays, the list could go on. I am a very very picky person, I toured every preschool from Sherman oaks to Burbank. I breathed a sigh of relief when I found OVP. Nikki and Krista care about every single child in their center. I rarely post reviews. I am that person that reads them .... Then always questions the authenticity of the review etc.... So here I am, writing a review -- and I take this very seriously because you're reading this right now trying to decide if this preschool is the right fit for your precious little. We were the family that came in on the last hour.... A spot opened and we started the T-K program. My son had never been to preschool ... so a lot of separation anxiety... you know the drill. The entire team at OVP were so supportive and accommodating and cheered us on helping my son acclimate and socialize and thrive! The art projects, music, cooking classes, free play, imagination play, journaling, Spanish/English songs, bubble play, water play, ALL holidays celebrated, birthdays recognized and parties welcomed, healthy snacks provided, huge parent participation, open communication.... The owners are there every day - present ... hugging the kids, talking with parents ...really truly creating an environment of community and family. *And the school is a no visibility beautiful gated grounds and in a safe residential neighborhood...a point that we know is important. Our family feels so very grateful and lucky to have had our children here. Nikki and Krista are so knowledgeable, loving and caring to our kiddos. They've always made time for our questions & honestly they feel like family... basically the coolest extended aunts our kids could as for! They do a great job creating a community with their events and the way they structure the school where children and families can thrive. The teachers are very informative, the lessons are clear and they have the coolest art projects for the kiddos. Also- they just seem so happy to be with the students which says a lot. Music is key here and my kids LOVE it. We've made amazing friendships here and our kids have the fondest memories. It's by far the best preschool in Burbank. My son has been a student at Our Village for two years now and I honestly believe that it's one of the best decisions we've ever made. We love the school. We love the teachers. We love Nikki and Krista. It's such an open, nurturing environment with an emphasis on inclusivity and guided play/learning without pressure. There's an open line of communication with everyone and an invested community of parents. This is what preschool should be. The only downside is the price (which has increased each year), but so has everything else these days and you get what you pay for. The classrooms are clean and well-maintained, the staff truly cares about the kids, and they've shaped my son into a better human. read more

We started out excited about this school and ended up traumatized. Please please please consider strongly before enrolling your child here. You want to believe as a parent that when you leave your small child in the care of a teacher that they will be treated with kindness and respect. That was not the case at "our village preschool" so much so that I found the name incredibly ironic within a few months of my son starting there. Ms. Addy was horrible. I spoke with a few other parents that felt the same way I did and literally requested a meeting with the administrators about the same issue and stated their problem in the same way "I don't feel like Ms. Addy liked my child" this is beyond absurd. In NO way should an adult come across as so condescending cold and rude to 4-5 year olds as that woman does. If you can't control your attitude and the way you treat kids then you're in the wrong line of work. She would literally roll her eyes at us, make snippy comments and just treat my son badly in general. To the extent that even a few months after he stopped attending he said "Mommy, please help me forget my old school" how the heck did they they treat him that he is still thinking about it and begging to forget? Here are some examples of why we decided to pull him: * My son likes to play super heroes which the teachers randomly declared was not allowed. So every time I would pick my son up Ms. Addy would do a bee line for me and right in front of other parents, other students and my kid she would tell me about every single last petty detail that she didn't like regarding my kid during the day. Basically telling me in front of him and his peers and the parents about how bad he was. This is humiliating, demeaning and cruel. I finally asked after a few weeks of this if she could say ONE good thing about him. She stood there for a second with her hand on her chin looking up as if in thought and then said "nope, I can't think of anything" Evil. *My son is allergic to mosquito bites and has a pretty severe reaction to bites so when mosquito season came around I gave his teacher some mosquito spray, explained that he was allergic and asked that she spray him with it before they went outside. She took it from me without really paying attention and sure enough he ended up getting eaten up. They sent me photos through the app of a bunch of bites that he'd received implying that he'd been bitten at home. He didn't have those bites all over him that morning and trust me I would have noticed which leads me to believe that he was bitten at school. When I asked them why he hadn't had the spray applied they just looked at me with bland disinterest and said they had never received any spray they didn't know what I was talking about. I turned around, went into the classroom with Ms. addy hot on my heals opened his cubby and there was the mosquito spray, neglected at the bottom of his cubby. *One day his lunch box failed and yogurt got all over his sandwich soaking it and making it inedible. He miserably told me that they made him eat it like that. They could have called me and I would have brought another sandwich. *He hated using the bathroom there because they would embarrass him when he had to go number 2 so he just stopped using the restroom at that school. It stopped being a problem when he started his new school. *Really expensive and for what? They take off so much of the year. 3 weeks no school for Christmas, a week for thanksgiving and literally they'd take off just as much time as possible for any reason. The school closes at 3 and if you need to pick your child up later you have to pay for the after school program. At literally any other school that your paying what they charge you could pick up between 5 and 6 without an additional charge. *When he started there they told us that we could opt out of naps if we needed to at some point. Well eventually he started having a hard time falling asleep at night because the nap was too much. I explained that to them and asked that he no longer take a nap. They said that wasn't an option. We had some back and forth about it and Ms. Addy just straight up refused. I figured that they'd done away with that policy but then while talking with another mom she mentioned that one of the kids that didn't nap was outside and I found out that yes some kids are permitted to opt out of the nap just not my kid. There were A LOT of issues like this to the point that I and my son had a lot of anxiety surrounding his school. He would come home and tell us over and over how mean Ms. Addy was. Children should be nurtured and their first schooling experience should be a positive one. I'm so sad that we enrolled there and basically had time stolen from us. Your kids are only little once, you want to enjoy everything as much as possible not be butting heads and fighting for fair treatment of your child. read more

I took my chances and decided to check out this place as a stepping stone. I remember walking in not sure what to expect but at the same time expecting some kind of resource. Best preschool experience by FAR. Our son went to an expensive preschool in Silverlake which we loved until we moved. They price gouged us out. Now, our daughter is living her best life at OVP. The price is less and gives us so much MORE. We love the staff, the owners, the set and setting - all of it. So happy we moved and made the change for our 2nd. You know how to spot a good preschool? It's when you walk in and see happy kids and happy teachers. Everyone is happy to be there! And that's Our Village Preschool. We love this program. My 4 yo daughter went there briefly for their Summer Camp in the Butterflies class. She loved it! Every week was a different theme. It was really fun. As a preschool teacher myself, it's hard to find a good program that match my personal philosophy. OVP is exactly what I envision. OVP is a play-based preschool. Children learn through play! What can be better than that! The classrooms are beautiful and spacious. There are different sections in the class (ie. dramatic play, quiet area, blocks). And a huge outdoor yard in the back. The staffs are friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend this preschool. Go for a tour for your kid! You'll wish you went to a preschool like this. read more

This is the best preschool in burbank hands down, probably in the area. It was bought by Krista and Nikki and they had an amazing vision for the school and turned it into the most nurturing, well laid out and educational preschool I have ever seen! The tuition is very reasonable given how much is offered! They put their heart and soul into the school! Each room is thoughtfully designed and planned. The play area in the back is huge and beautiful and SAFE and fun. I have seen other schools that have a sad patch of fake grass or parking lot fenced in or are next to gas stations! The teachers are caring and kind. The enrichment activities are beyond compare. My daughter went there for two years and now is in kindergarten and missing preschool so much she asked to go back there! And our son had one year there and now he's in second grade and loved it as well . Can't wait to send our youngest there soon! read more

My daughter started attending OVP in 2016 at age 2 when it was known as Music Box Preschool and the director was Rimma. My little one is now 5 years old and will be heading to kindergarten this month and I am so glad. When she first started going here, the tuition was $850.00 a month for full-time (5 days a week from 7am-6pm). This tuition was extremely reasonable and a big part of the reason why we chose this preschool. When the new owners Nikki and Krista took over, they decided to skyrocket the tuition to $1250.00 per month, and not only that but they changed the hours to 9am-3pm for full-time. If your child needs to stay past 3pm, guess what that means? Yes - MORE MONEY. Their tuition is as follows: 2 days (Half Day): $600 2 days (full day): $800 3 days (Half Day): $800 3 days (full day): $1,000 5 days (Half Day): $1,000 5 days (full day): $1,250 It seems ridiculous to me that you would jump from $850 and increase full-time tuition by $400, ESPECIALLY when you are cutting hours. Not only that, but parents were only given about a 2 week notice around the holidays that they were doing this increase. My daughter has gone here for 3 years, and so far, since new owners took over this school seems to be all about money. I have a 2 year old who I was considering sending here because up until now I have had no complaints and it was a great school - but I'm not made out of money so she will not be going here. Teddy Bear preschool one block down charges $930 per month for five days a week full-time from 7:00am-6:00pm which are the hours most parents work and need care. Half days at Westminister Presbyterian Preschool are $260 per month for 2 half days per week and $604 per month for 3 full days each week, and $494 per month for 5 half days per week. First United Methodist Church preschool is also only $565 per month for M-F part-time and $350 per month for MWF, and $290 per month for Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you're considering OVP and you cannot afford it like several other parents, please look into these options above that I posted. Although OVP is a great school, it is not worth $1,250 per month. Had I known that these new owners were going to skyrocket the tuition with no notice and all they cared about was money, I would have pulled by child out and put her elsewhere. There is nothing special about this school that makes it OK to raise tuition by $400 and then some if you need care past 3:00pm. read more

This is by far the best preschool in the area. The kids learn through play, which is perfect! They do yoga, cooking, Spanish, science, art, etc. every week. And they use an app where you can get pics of your kid during the day! There are two teachers per class so the kid:teacher ratio is smaller than the other schools in the area. But the best part of the school is the owners and teachers. They truly care about all the kids and have lots of experience and skill. read more

My Daughter started at Our Village in August of 2017. We are very lucky we enrolled our daughter during that time as the school was in a critical transition of new ownership. This school used to be called Music Box and was beyond need of just a little attention. Ms.Nikki and Ms.Krista are the new owners. We could not be more pleased with the passion these two educators show in the day to day operation of their pre-school. Not only does my daughter thrive at this school but I see the love and attention given to her every day. The school itself has undergone a complete remodel. Ms. Krista and Ms.Nikki also hired additional teachers to complete their amazing staff making sure Our-Village Pre-school is kept to the highest expectations of them both and the parents. Another reason we are excited about Our Village Preschool is the Play Based Learning curriculum and activities such as; Yoga, Music, Cooking and The Amazing Athletes program. We also love that the teachers and staff keep us updated almost daily with emails and photos from the Remind app. I could go on all day but I have a hungry 3 year waiting on me. Our daughter was attending Music Box Preschool which then transitioned to Our Village, for about 2 years. We are very happy with the 3 year old class and Ms. Roxanne specifically, as our daughter Emma loves her so much! The daycare looks great, the owners Nikki and Krista put in a lot of effort to modernize the facility, buy new toys and offer healthy snacks and fun classes for the kids. They will always find time to talk to you and listen to your concerns. We have been very happy and highly recommend this preschool for your little ones! read more

My parents enrolled me here when I was pretty young and back when it was called Music Box. I don't know how I have so many memories of this place, and from such a young age, but I do and they are good ones (besides getting rocks stuck up my nose and cracking my head open on one of the benches - both were my fault and resulted in me having to go to the hospital). From what I remember, the staff and teachers were warm, the grounds were fun, and I remember this being a happy time for me as a child. I don't know why I even looked this place up, but it was nice to see pictures of a place I remember really enjoying even when I was so young. read more

We have had the BEST experience at Our Village. My son started there in March 2018, right when he turned 3. He had been left with babysitters, but had never been left in a daycare or classroom-like setting without a family member present. He's very sensitive and shy; from very young, he would often cry when neighbors or strangers talked to him. We had been participating regularly in a variety of classes and play groups since he was just a few months old, but still it took him a very long time to warm up to new situations/people. Naturally, we were anxious about starting preschool. Nikki and Krista, the owners, were so understanding and accommodating. They let me drop in with him for the few weeks before he was scheduled to start, to get to know the place, the kids, his teachers. Everyone was so welcoming, including the kids, which I thought was such a great sign that they are doing something very right in the culture they create there. We had one week of very challenging drop-offs, and the staff was incredibly supportive. Nikki sat in his class with him and provided a lot of extra attention those first few days, even weeks. She would call me to let me know how it went once I left. After that first week, he's excited to go and drop-offs are a breeze! He LOVES his teachers, Ms. Lesley and Ms. Serena. He now goes 5 days a week and comes home with "stories" about everything from yoga, to playing baseball/volleyball/soccer, to new songs learned in music class, to what food they cooked, to bubble parties and water play, etc. They have an awesome play-based curriculum, with lots of variety, outside activity and arts. He practices writing his name. His teachers have been great in supporting potty training. A few more of my favorite things about Our Village: 1.They use an app called Remind to communicate with parents, where the teachers send photos of class activities throughout the day. Very fun! 2.There are lots of activities where the classes mix with one another(lunch, outdoor play, etc.) All the teachers seem to know all the kids' names. Not only is this just such a lovely thing, but next week my son moves up into the next "class." I was curious how the transition would go, but he's excited because he already knows his new teachers. Our son has blossomed in so many ways since starting at Our Village, and we feel great every day knowing he is in loving and very competent hands. If you're looking for a preschool where your kid is going to have loads of fun, learn a lot, be loved and well taken care of, and come home happy - look no further. read more
