We have stayed here previously and always enjoyed our stay. The new owners ( Outdoorsy) have made changes incorporating many cabins to the perimeter of this 36 acre park. RVs are in the center and the lovely flower beds and flowing streams remain. The staff is very helpful and responsive.

We stayed here for two nights on our trip around Colorado it was amazing! The staff was very polite and the grounds were absolutely stunning. Bayfield Is a quaint town with very friendly people. My only complaints were 1. I wasn't told when making the reservation a month in advance that the restrooms were closed due to the Covid-19 mess. 2. A lot of traffic noise due to the park being located right on highway 160 it was non stop. 3. There was quite a few people who allowed their dogs to be off leash and last but not least parents need to teach their children to be a little quieter in the early morning if they're going to play in the water behind others campers next time get a river spot screaming kids at 7:30 am isn't fun. Otherwise it was a good time.

This is one of our favorite RV Resorts. We have stayed many times and it is always true pleasure to stay here. It is so beautiful and peaceful. The owners and staff really go above and beyond. The customer service is excellent. You can always tell when you are at a park that the owners are true RV enthusiast. As for the park the streams and ponds are absolutely beautiful. The roads and spaces are all level and gravel. So no dust. With beautiful trees and grass throughout the park. Even a 45 foot coach can maneuver easily. This is a true big rig park. You will not find a nicer RV park in Durango or Bayfield Colorado to stay. I promise you that. Updated : 8/24/16 Another great stay at Bayfield Riverside RV park. Many new changes and improvements have been added to the park. Additional private sites, new assault entry, and many new landscaped seated areas for relaxing. But some things remains the same, the outstanding customer service by Mac. Thanks again Mac for another great stay !!! Haves Blessed Day !!!

    Tightly packed!

I don't know where they placed all the RVs with all the positive reviews but we're in a virtual parking lot with our sewer smack dab in front of someone else's front door. We're probably not even six feet away from the next camper! Ok I'm going to say what no one is saying here. WE ARE PACKED IN LIKE SARDINES! I was a full time nomad for over a year and this is by far not what we expected after a ten hour drive! BEWARE: Don't do it. The flowers and such are icing on a cake with way too many layers (rows) of tightly squeezed RVs. We have a back in spot but it's looks like a man made stream. You've got to be kidding me for $51 a night! First night we'll see. Right now very unhappy!

Definitely one of the prettiest RV parks you will stay at. There are trees and flowers everywhere that are beautiful. There are small creeks running through the park too. The park is very large and very well maintained, will definitely be coming back

This park is very pretty as the web site shows. After that it is all fluff. When you call they don't answer the phone. Linda is outside smoking and Maxine could care less. I requested an eleven day stay and was told 6 consecutive days were the most that was available. I told Maxine that I could dry camp for a couple days on a friends property, if she could get me back in later. I booked the 6 days and never heard another word. When we arrived both Linda and the fellow that escorts said we were booked for 11 days. I showed them my 6 day reservation. They escorted me to the very least desirable spot. Later when My wife requested a better spot she was told nothing was available. On my right was a junky looking class A, 80's vintage, painted flat black with a brush. On the left was a young couple, year round residents running a construction business.

We skipped the food, having brought our own "camping" fare to eat and the kids wouldn't let us miss roasting hot dogs. We got their propane fire pit--I believe it's $25 for the pit and a full tank of propane. Nothing horribly special about it, but we enjoyed sitting around it and cooking hotdogs and marshmallows. There's no wood fire allows for safety reasons, so this made a great 2nd place. The folks there were very nice. They check you in and lead you to your spot and help you get you larger campers in if you need the help. We didn't have to leave the vehicle. The campground was clean and they were on top of all issues right away. They seemed like a group of friends or family taking care of their own property. We had a great time. This year we returned and things seemed more streamlined. Check in was quicker, they checked on us to make sure we were satisfied, everyone was very friendly. The pool was open--while not an Olympic sized pool, there was plenty of room for about a dozen kids and adults to be playing games and splashing around while many more (including myself) sat around the side of the pool in provided lounge chairs. We were told they were bought by a new group, and this group made some positive changes. First they started carrying a new pizza (Hunt Brothers, I think?) and for 12 bucks you get a pizza with as many toppings as you want with no extra charge--only charge is extra cheese. They were made quickly and delivered to our camp site. They also have a breakfast area with standard breakfast fare, as well as a pie/icecream shop in the main office. They have tent camping, Pull-through, Cabins, and big rig RV parking. Anything you need is available on site. They have laundry and showers, water, propane, and of course all the hookups you need. The new business that owns them seems to want to keep what worked and improve what needed improvement. They actually asked us how things were, what we thought about the changes (they knew we were there the previous year) and asked for suggestions on improvements. This wasn't the kind of corporate buyout where they try to streamline and skimp on everything, maximizing profits while running the business into the ground. Either the new owners genuinely care, or they put people in charge that genuinely care, and give them the authority to fix things. The only employee whose name we remember was Deborah, and she was very friendly and really peppy. She also happened to be the female employee mentioned below. The best part was during the duck races (an event we're told they hold on holidays where you can "buy" a numbered rubber ducky to race down the creek with everyone else's--the money goes to local charities--they said this time was the local Humane Society) Deborah was dancing around, quacking and flapping her "wings" getting everyone else involved while cheering on their own ducks. The race may have only lasted a couple of minutes, but it was a blast. You did not have to buy in to watch--and the ducks go fast! We sent our daughter to buy a few and were told they were already sold out! Pickleball was hard to get ahold of this year--the campgrounds weren't full, but there were some larger families that were quicker than us. We were able to get pool easily. They also put on movies outdoors (though covered). While we were there, they were all kid-friendly movies. I only remember one night was Finding Nemo. We plan on checking out one of their large cabins next year with more family.

(1) Clean, quiet and well-maintained park with great amenities is what you will find here along with a very friendly staff. (2) We live in the age of WIFI technology and there is nothing to stop any RV Park across this country from investing in doing WIFI properly. For some users such as ourselves, WIFI is an important feature and was one of the reasons for our stay here. We were told both by email and phone that each site had a good wifi signal. The wifi in and around our site was just about non-existent. We were in direct sight of two wifi towers, but still couldn't get a decent connection, even at 5am. Other guests we spoke with also had non-existent wifi! We know enough not to count on a good signal over the weekends, but during the weekday there is no excuse. We even had the WIFI-Ranger on our roof with a direct-line-of-sight to their wifi source. (3) Level pads, big coaches need paved or thick gravel pads that are level. We give this park a 5-star rating for having level gravel sites. (4) Maneuverability, some parks have very narrow roads which make backing up and turning very difficult, we found this park to have plenty of room to maneuver. (5) Dust, some parks are so dusty that even after short stays your unit needs a bath, this place is very dusty compared to many other parks, no grass here. (6) Satellite, as you know satellite reception is very hard to receive when you have large trees. If you stay away from the sites with the tall trees to the south you will receive reception. (7) Phone Service, we have AT&T which worked great here. (8) Dog play and potty, plenty of room to walk your dog here, plus there are two fenced-in dog runs. The Bad.... We had a pull-thru site but could not attach our tow car until after we pulled out. Our site was very long but there was not enough room to pull out of our site without having to back up. Maneuverability with a smaller coach and tow car might be possible.

I mean, who wants to pay $74 a day to splash around hot water with hundreds of other people? After some googling, we figured we'd try this spot after whitewater rafting. This place is kinda interesting in that it's literally right on the Piedra River, but it's along a section of the river where the hot springs bubble up so you're literally in the river blocked off by man-made dams that you can adjust and/or make new pools by yourself. So if you're headed west out of Pagosa Springs, it's about a 17 mile drive on US 160. You'll pass the turnoff for Chimney Rock on your left (south). US 160 will go north, and you'll see a clearing with some cabins advertising for pinon nuts and a brown sign indicating a turnoff for First Fork Road on your right. You'll want to turn in here. First Fork Road is also known as Piedra Road and Forest Service Route 622. You'll pass a bunch of cabins and camping sites, and the road will be a gravel/washboard/dirt kind of road. It's actually pretty well maintained. It is a little narrow at times with a very steep dropoff, so just be a little careful when you're driving on it. I drove my rental Jetta, and it was entirely fine, but it's probably awful in the winter. You'll take it for 6.7 miles, and you'll come upon a sign on your right with an intersection for Monument Park Road to your right and a parking area for the Sheep Creek Trailhead on your left. You'll want to park in the parking area and take the Sheep Creek Trailhead. Apparently, the signs tell you to register, but all the papers were filled. You would think that they would come around and refresh the papers, but I guess not. The trail starts off easy, but then becomes a bunch of switchbacks and then a very steep descent. You'll be climbing down 800 feet in about 3/4s of a mile. There are places where the trail has been modified or an old part of the trail been closed off, but they're easily discernible. Just make sure you keep to the right every time there's a possible fork. You'll hit a sign about fishing lures and then an open meadow. Take the fork to the right, and it'll cut across the meadow and follow the river upstream. You'll then hit another fork where the trail goes right upwards and another fork that goes down towards the river. Take the upwards right fork. You'll walk about another 3/4s of a mile and you'll enter another clearing after several obvious campsites. Walk towards the river at this point, and you'll see to your left the springs on the banks of the river. I think there must be several other pools upstream from the clearing as we heard voices from there, but we didn't go exploring. The pools are about 100 degrees and they're pretty shallow. I think it's interesting because you can feel the hot water and then you can also feel the cold water from the Piedra River coming in and you can adjust the temperature utilizing the rocks. It's pretty brackish though because there's a lot of silt. In the muddy areas, the mud is super hot too. Apparently clothing is optional, but as there was a bunch of people camping out, there was no skinny dipping this time. ;) I think it's pretty cool when you're sitting in the pool, that you're eye level with the rest of the river...and believe me, the Piedra River is pretty fast this time of the year. Be careful once you get back on the road when you're leaving, especially at sunset. The sun hits your car windshield at such an angle during the red dirt switchback that you won't be able to see very well. And especially with the narrow road and dropoff, it could be a disaster. Lucky for me, he jerked the wheel in time because apparently I was precariously close to the edge. Oops.
