It's been 4-5 years since I had a massage from someone here but it was so good I still remembered it. Well, came in the off season to relax a little and was extremely happy that they are open year round. I booked a surprise couples massage (the couples deluxe) for my boyfriend and I and it was incredible. I was so happy Aaron was still there and requested him as my masseur. Didn't disappoint and was exactly as I remembered. 2 hours later and we both came out of the massage haze and couldn't believe it had gone by already (that's what happens when it's so good you lose track of everything). This is worth the drive up from staying down in Kitty Hawk and I'll be back again to see Aaron next time I'm in town! My wife and I came for a couples massage for our one-year anniversary. We decided to take Tom and Donna's advice to "treat yo self" (see parks and rec for reference). We had never had a massage and the 30 minutes Swedish couples massage as a good intro. OBX massage therapy did not disappoint. We were asked a few questions about areas of stress etc. and made comfortable immediately by masseuse and masseur (yes, I googled "terms for male and female massage therapists"). There was soft ambient music playing and our stresses melted away. There was an occasional question by our therapists but otherwise it was simply the most relaxing experience I could have imagined. The 30 minutes went by far too quickly (I regret only getting 30 minutes). They are prompt with email replies and worked with me to fit us in during our stay. My only suggestion is that the email says arrive 5 minutes prior and I'd probably lean closer to 10 for forms/bathroom/just settling in. We will be back! read more

Wanted to get a massage while down in the OBX since my vacation wasn't turning into much of a vacation and I needed to de-stress a bit. Called on Tuesday to look for a 90-minute slot for an integrated massage. After given several date/times they had available, went with Friday, first thing in the morning. They do take your CC info to hold your appointment and if you don't show, you get charged. Obviously, this is not typical but I guess being in a vacation area, maybe this is there way to curb no shows. They called me on Thursday to remind me of my 90-minute appointment the following day. I couldn't wait!!! I arrived a a few minutes early Friday morning to fill out a one-page form. The receptionist informed me that this was a 60-minute appointment and not a 90-minute as booked. I was surprised and disappointed by this information. That said, the receptionist said it was her fault and apologized and offered to comp the entire massage as a result! There's that southern hospitality that I miss so much living up North. Aside from the shortened massage time, I really enjoyed my integrated massage--a combination of Swedish and deep tissue. The deep tissue hurt a bit and I'm a little surprised that she didn't ask how the pressure was. The 60-minutes flew by, like most massages do in my opinion! On my way out, I gave the receptionist my tip for the massage and she once again apologized for the mistake. While the mistake was unfortunate, the way they handled it was more than acceptable and next time I vacation in OBX, I wouldn't hesitate to come back here! read more

Can't say enough good things about our experience with Brooke! We had 5 back to back massages in our rental home during our week long trip. All of us have regular massages and VERY high standards. Brooke was incredible! Even the person who went last was impressed with her technique and pressure. This past week was my first time in OBX, many lasting memories were made, but the one I can't get out of my head is the phenomenal massage I had at OBX Massage Therapy! If relaxation is your goal, then look no further. Upon arrival you will be greeted by a very knowledgeable receptionist, the waiting area is calm and quite without being overwhelmingly or forcibly "spa". The music playing in the background, the constant flow of water and the peacefulness achieved even before my massage started was unlike any other experiences I've ever had. I selected a 1 hour Swedish massage, I wish I booked it for 2 hours! My massage therapist was so skilled in his art I drifted off to sleep and woke up completely relaxed, loosened up and in la-la land. Followed up with the tea tree foot exfoliation and reflexology. This experienced crew made this combination for us, totaling 2 hours of bliss! It's expensive but worth every dollar. Skip the fancy resort spas and visit these guys who help you relax, coerce your body back to health and allow you to leave planet earth for a few hours. My husband and I are newlyweds, on our honeymoon for the week here in the OBX. Getting a couples massage was high on our list for our vacation. I also used this company last summer when they were just a come-to-your-house massage company (which they still might do), and they were great! My therapist, Karen, was extremely proficient with her technique of slow, deep pressure to get my kinks out. Eh I wouldn't go back - not for that price. I had 60 min deep tissue and reflexology with Pamela Ann. She was pleasant but cut me off after I gave three sore areas; didn't understand my comment about relaxin - hormone released during pregnancy - that has finally worn off; and didn't say a word once she started. She never asked if pressure was good or bad - it was weird. She did a pulse sort of action at the end of her strokes - very unnerving and uncomfortable. Also reflexology was a glorified and unsatisfying foot massage rather than actual reflexology. If it were the latter she would have been looking for and treating imbalances but instead she just did boring gentle rubbing - not what I paid $60 for. Places are limited in Corolla so if you want a massage you could try this place but be really specific about your therapist and treatment plan. read more

Highlights: they gave me clear directions when I made an appointment over the phone, all my back pain was gone afterwards, and my masseuse was great! I loved that I didn't have to make a bunch of decisions (oils, beverages, different packages, etc.). I did an integrated massage for $90 and didn't have to direct them in any other way. Christina focused on my upper back, which I requested, and made sure to target extra tight spots. She was excellent. The receptionist was also pleasantly conversational. Great place in OBX. I had 3 massages there while on vacation last month. Aaron is one of the best massage therapists I've had over the 20+ years that I've been getting massages. He has very skilled, listens to your issues and knew enough about the back and related muscles to show me some helpful stretches to be more pro-active with my particular issue. Very good massage by Christina. However, the receptionist (booker) needs remedial lessons in people skills. As a repeat customer, I would have expected a courtesy call if a session they had booked for me were to be given away because they failed to have the card number on file when they thought they had it. Just the suggestion of that, however, brought an onslaught of perfunctory "our policy is very strict...." when I showed up for my second massage. It's unfortunate that a locally owned establishment with good therapists would have someone so unfriendly and unsympathetic as their representative to the public. My wife booked an appointment from a number on her cell phone as she had used Outer Banks Massage Therapy before, along with another massage store in the Outer Banks. She went to the wrong store and that's on us. Brooke from OBMT called five minutes after my wife's massage was supposed to start and asked where she was, informing her that because she was late that our credit card would have to be charged for the full amount of her visit. My wife explained to her that she had gone to the wrong store and what could be done. Brooke explained that, 'since this was a business', nothing could be done. My wife was distraught and cried for nearly half an hour. When I called just to see if OBMT would do anything such as discount a future visit or even charge 75% of this visit since no work was done I was told 'this is a business and that was their rule'. Although the appointment confusion was on our end you would have thought that the 'business' would have at least tried to work with a client under this situation. NO offer to work with us was made. If I ran my business like this, I would be out of business quickly. Even a $5 discount from the $80 charge would have left a better taste in my mouth. Brooke merely told me that they get full payment regardless. Lesson learned with Outer Banks Massage Therapy. Scott read more

I was happy to find a Thai massage offered on the Outer Banks, so I scheduled one at Outer Banks Massage. I have had a number of Thai massages from half dozen different therapists in California, and on the East Coast, and found them to relieve my arthritis pain and provide an overall sense of well-being. The 'Thai massage" I received bore no resemblance to others I have had. I was directed to lie on a table rather than a large mat on the floor. I experience a single one-direction stretch to my hips and a single one-direction stretch to my shoulders, rather than supported full range of motion manipulation of most of my joints I expected from prior massages. Otherwise the massage was anemic and repetitive, I left feeling disappointed, and not particularly better than when I arrived. In addition, the facility is full of scented candles, so if you have allergies to fragrances it is not a friendly place for you. read more
