I had an assignment from a friend to find a nice local bottle of a favorite style of wine. Wine isn't something I'm very knowledgeable on, but this store came recommended by another local shop. When I went in Stephanie greeted me and I explained what I was looking for. She talked me through the wineries of the region including stories about the owners and which types were popular. She got even more friendly when I said I was on a beer tour and recommended some others that I didn't have time for on this visit. The store is mostly open air with big sliding doors, a handful of tables outside. Inside is a table for tastings, lots of wine shelves around really show off the labels. I found Outer Space Wines thanks to a Reddit recommendation and am so glad I did. I went with friends and my parents -- I wasn't sure how my parents would feel since it's not a traditional winery tasting experience, but we all had a great time and left with multiple bottles. Emily hosted our tasting and was fantastic. She's incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about wine, especially from smaller, local producers. She shared so many great stories behind the vineyards and had a ton of interesting wines for us to try -- all of which felt thoughtfully chosen. Her recommendations were spot on. We did a tasting for six without a reservation, which was a lucky break. They've only been open about a year, but I have a feeling this place won't stay under the radar for long. The space theme is fun (even the bathroom trash can is cool), and the prices are very reasonable. I'm already looking forward to going back and trying even more new wines. We had just gotten to napa after an hour and a half drive so we began to walk around aimlessly to stretch our legs. This place stood out immediately. I've never been to a tasting room so I halt kind of lost, but the woman that was there ( I think she was the owner, might be wrong) helped us out immediately. I asked my friend (she lives in Napa) to bring me to somewhere new and somewhere not expensive like so many of the tasting rooms. We stopped at Outer Space for a glass of wine. Comfy space with a few tables and a lovely bar. I found "Charbono" on the menu of reds and chose that. I asked the owner for the story behind it and learned a few things. A different and unique wine that only grows 100 acres in Napa. It fit my palette perfectly. This is by far the coolest wine shop in all of downtown Napa. It is very welcoming and the owners are super nice and knowledgeable. One of the best tasting experiences that we've had in Napa and perhaps the best value. This is a wine bottle shop + tasting room in downtown Napa. There's a really nice range of wineries and varietals on display both in the shop and in the featured tasting flight that's offered. The wines on the tasting flight showcased a good range of styles and each had a story, whether it be the producer, the location, or the blend. If you're tired of the typical Napa tasting, then Outer Space's lineup is a great way to get out of that rut by adding more variety and consistently high quality. The proprietor was very willing to share his thoughts on the wines and could get into the details on the winemakers and vineyards. They also sold the tasting's wines by the glass, which is another plus. The bottles for sale in the store, though not a large selection, were thoughtfully curated. Pretty much every bottle looked interesting in some way with creative and detailed descriptions. The prices were also right, with most bottles in the $20-45 range. The website was very up-to-date and has a good amount of info on each wine. They also seem to host an array of events, including themed tasting nights, tastings with various wineries, and--my favorite--guess-the-wine blind tastings. It's really fun! After going to one too many underwhelming Napa wineries, Outer Space is a breath of fresh air. We'll be planning future trips to Napa around visiting here, particularly for the events. read more

We visited Outer Space Wines on the 4th of July, which is also my husband's birthday. We were in town also celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. We had visited Napa on our honeymoon as well and were excited to try some new wineries/tasting rooms. The tasting room embraced the "Outer Space" theme in subtle way without being too cheesy. The price of a tasting is very reasonably priced considering all of the other overpriced tastings in town. The wines were phenomenal - my favorite was Desperada while my husband favored Sequum. After our tasting, we enjoyed a class on the side patio in the sun. It was nice and quiet and out of the hubbub of downtown Napa on the 4th of July. We truly enjoyed our experience, and will certainly be back when in town again! read more
