We were in the area doing some wine tasting and decided to check out this place. The inside is really nice but not very big. We did two flights, one of Rum and the other of whiskey tastings and one gin and tonic drink. Both flights were delicious, great notes on each, and a light palate. I'm not big gin drinker but I was surprised how well the gin tasted. I'd order a gin drink anytime. The place is really nice and the service was good. Such a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon here tasting and sipping. Cool vibe inside, refreshing and airy, love their wicker light fixtures. Plenty of cute seating areas to enjoy the tastings. The man who helped us at the bar was very knowledgeable and friendly. I enjoyed the limoncello, figcello, rhubarb ginger, guava paradise and the hazelnut brandy was really delicious. Didn't even know this place existed. We had just finished a meal and decided to walk around town and stumbled upon this place. The manager who was working was fantastic, super knowledgeable and helpful. The ambiance is super cool and definitely has a vibe. The spirits are largely flavored spirits, which aren't entirely our jam, so that's really the only reason we're not giving it 5 stars. But the number of spirits you can try in a tasting and the number of unique spirits they have on hand, definitely makes it worth visiting! read more

We were recommended to come to Prohibition Spirits during our day trip to Sonoma. I was shocked to never have heard of their spirits before, so I figured to try a flight to see what it was all about. Their pink gin was perfect for people who don't like strong juniper gins, and the Sugar Daddy smelled deceivingly sweet but was perfectly not sweet. Stumbled upon this store while strolling in downtown Sonoma one night, and glad I found it! It's a cute little store with a lounge-like atmosphere. If you are looking for a break from wine, they have quite the selection of spirits to taste and buy. And the service is amazing, our "bartender" educated us well about their selection and gave us great suggestions for our pours. My husband and I, and a friend, went here twice on a Sonoma trip, in part because it opened at 10am and we weren't sure what else to do. Husband and I ended up joining their club because, on both days, we had great service. Denise helped us on the first visit, and a very nice man, whose name I can't remember now, helped us the second time. If you like brandy, gin, or vodka, definitely check them out. The store is very cozy with a relaxed atmosphere . They offer six half-ounce tastes for $25, and in addition to being nice, their staff are knowledgeable about the products and will also provide cocktail ideas. Staff is so friendly. Little shop is super cute. We even saw the owners and they were very friendly and explained the absinthe our friends got. We got to try 6 different sipirts. They were all in order from non sweet to sweet. Each one had a very unique flavor. My favorite was the melon mint gin and guava paradise liquor. We also got some salami and almonds. I was already having a pretty sweet day off from work when I decided to stop by Prohibition Spirits Distillery (PSD). But walking up to the spot, I saw their sign that read "we make great spirits to keep you in good spirits," and I just felt a stupid grin slowly make its way across my face. Anyway, PSD is conveniently located in the infamous Cornerstone shopping center off of highway 121 and within a short distance of the Airport. It's the brainchild of Fred and Amy Groth. They started out crafting limoncello, but the product list has since expanded to include brandy, bourbon, gin, and other wonderful offerings. ___Products___ Coffee Liqueur: The folks at Prohibition took green Ethiopian coffee beans, aged it in their bourbon barrels, roasted them at Petaluma Coffee and Tea, and then cold brewed in their brandy. Damn, this is good! The coffee is prominent and doesn't taste artificial at all. I've been sipping their coffee liqueur neat, but I'm sure I can find other uses for it. I understand this is a limited offering so get your bottle while you can! Sonoma Julep: Their take on a bottled mint julep combines brandy with mint infusions. Just pour over ice and you're golden! I'm quite fond of mint juleps, though a brandy version seemed different to me. I think I prefer bourbon. Still good. Craft Hand Sanitizers: Prohibition decided to switch gears and help fill the hand sanitizer deficit when COVID-19 hit (thank you btw). These cocktail-inspired hand sanitizers come in 4 scents (lemon-drop martini, pins colada, key lime margarita, old fashioned) and are probably my favorite hand sanitizers! They kill germs and smell quite pleasant. Old fashioned is my favorite of the bunch, but I wish the bourbon aroma was more prominent rather than alluding to the presence of bourbon. *After reading my review draft, I think I just have a very pro-bourbon disposition haha. ___Bonus Material___ -They host online cocktail classes. -Cocktail kits are currently available. -They sell the bourbon barrel coffee beans used for their liqueur. -They collaborate with other local businesses. Many ingredients are sourced from elsewhere in Sonoma or are at least California-grown. The coffee was roasted in Petaluma. Moreover, the employee I spoke with was listing things I could check out while at Cornerstone. -Cornerstone is pretty cool. ___What I Don't Like___ -A Few Spartan Descriptions: I work in research so I love details. What's the story behind your product? What's special about it? Is it the ingredients? The process? What's the flavor profile like? Super fun for spirit tasting. Staff is great! You can taste 6 spirits for $20 and you can share your tastes (that's a LOT of alchol ). They specialize in Gin, Brandy and Lemincello type aperitifs. The Gin has several flavors and the Brandy even more. We tried orange, chocolate, pumpkin spice, pear, etc. Then to top it off they had candy cane moonshine - yummy. They have a stand up shuffle board to entertain yourself through the tasting plus fun stuff for sale. Fun to taste something different in wine world. Checked out Cornerstone Sonoma on a Saturday afternoon in the fall. Such a cute place and area. The inside was definitely appealing and they have outdoor seating for tastings close to the garden, very dog friendly. We didn't have a dog with us but other people did and they even had bowls of water for the dogs. The workers were super friendly and sanitized our table and area before we sat and gave us waters. They had a variety of spirits and options to choose from. There was a $30 spirit tasting of 6 different types of drinks, or mixed drink cocktail specials. We went ahead and got the 6 spirit tasting each (there were 3 of us). And from the looks of it we thought it would be super easy for us to drink but we were wrong haha. We got to choose 6 different ones and our host put them in order for which ones we should start off with. We loved the cognac and took a bottle home. I actually enjoyed the moonshine. We just took sips and it felt it right away since we haven't been drinking so much since covid. Once we tasted all of the spirits, we felt like we needed chase. Our host recommended a sparkling water to balance and apple juice really helped us take them like shots. Between the 3 of us we could have shared one tasting, having our own was a little overboard. I first met General Hooker at an Irish pub where he introduced me to his rye whiskey that he ages in zinfandel barrels for a great finish. As sometimes happens to me when I'm in Northern California, I got swept along in the overindulgent and mildly raucous evening. I am grateful to Murphy's Irish Pub in Sonoma for introducing me to General Hooker and a bottle of the Hooker's House Rye which was for me a better souvenir of this visit to wine country than...wine. Prohibition Spirits is a nice addition to tasting in the Sonoma Valley. It lacks the pretentiousness of a fancy winery; they are located behind a car repair shop. Don't be fooled by the location Prohibition Spirits is warm and inviting when you enter. The day we went they had just been peeling lemons for the Limoncello and the visitors' room smelled wonderful. The group that was tasting the day we were there sat on couches and chairs and tasted several of their creations including: Hooker's House Bourbon, Hooker's House Rye, General's 21 year-old Reserve and Private's Select White Corn Whiskey, Limoncello and Figcello. My favorite was Figcello, I wish I had bought more than one bottle I would have never heard about them if I had not purchased a LivingSocial coupon they are a bit off the beaten path and cannot be seen from the street. I just tried this new gin, Jacks gin #3 Melon and Mint. It's great in various ways. It's delicious as a straight neat drink, on the rocks, on the rocks with lime or lemon or with tonic. Interesting finish... I sensed more melon flavor than mint. When I drink gin it's usually with tonic and lime but I found myself for the first time liking it on straight and on ice the best. Now, with all these triple digit weather heat waves especially in August and Sept 2020... this comes at a great time to try- whew! This was refreshing and made the heat an afterthought. We were having lunch with some friends at Cornerstone Sonoma and someone mentioned there was a distillery in the area. We were touring the Sunset Magazine gardens and finally ran into the entrance to the distillery. It was a little hard to find since it is in the back of the shopping area. We were greeted as we walked in. There were some other people there so we looked for a place at the bar. There were six of us. We found a spot at the end and were given a list of what they offer. They offer quite a few brandies. You can pick 6 to try. It comes in small tasting cups (kind of like the little cups that come with cough syrup). The staff were great. They were kidding around with us and discussing some of the different spirits. One pear brandy we tried tasted a bit of and so the guy assisting us tried it and also thought it didn't taste right. He opened another bottle which allowed us to taste what it really tasted like. We ended up purchasing the Sonoma Julep (a brandy and mint cocktail) and the fig flavored brandy. You can easily spend all day exploring all of the grounds and tastings. We were wine tasting down the road and loved the idea of breaking it up with something different. It was $10 for 6 tastings. The spirits are of great quality. We tried various brandys and lemon-cellos and ended up buying a melon and mint brandy. Simone was pouring our tastes and was very personable and fun to talk to.
