Hard to find in Richmond so if I have a chance to get them, I jump at the chance. The special of the day was a flounder basket. I was able to substitute clam strips for other items, and the basket included a nicely sized piece of flounder (fish of the day), heaping helping of clam strips, fries, hush puppies, and slaw. "Beer of the Day" was $2.00! Wife got the cheesesteak sub with fries. All food--as they tell you when you walk in is fried--is fried. Totally OK with that and it was very, very tasty. Friendly staff, items mostly homemade, clean restaurant, a clear view of an honest-to-goodness working dock. Exactly what we were looking for for our last night in Manteo area. If you have not been to the Marina and Grill...please get there for a fun, tasty, almost entirely homemade meal at very reasonable prices, rubbing elbows with locals and people coming off of the fishing day, just adds to the charm to this slightly off the beaten path gem.

In addition to having grocery staples they have an impressive collection of condiments for seafood as well as common ingredients for preparing seafood. I was most impressed by the stacks of hush puppy mix from various brands. It was a fabulous sight. We get steamed crabs from Billy's annually. As a Maryland commercial crabber my father is quite picky (no pun intended) about his crabs and he trusts Billy's Seafood. On my recent visit to the store another customer was picking up steamed shrimp which smelled so good. This market is charming and the employees are delightful.

She gave the impression that she didn't want to be bothered. At check out we mentioned to the cashier the the person serving us had poor customer service. When we got home, to make matters the steamed shrimp was not like any other time. In order to eat the shrimp, which was so salty and spicy, we had to rinse it numerous times, and the salty taste still made it inedible. Next year we'll look for another seafood company.

When I am vacationing in the Outer Banks, I eat at O'Neal's several days a week. My favorite is the tilefish basket, when they have it, with fried okra. A second favorite is the fried shrimp basket. On my recent vacation I was glad to try a mix of tilefish, shrimp, sheepshead and soft shell crabs. All of it was so incredibly delicious! I go to O'Neals for a prepared lunch but they also have a great looking seafood counter for those who plan to cook it themselves at home.

The seafood remained as good as before and the slaw is some of the better such around. They know how to give it a good sweet-sour balance. It was also fresh, not old and soggy as happens too many times. We also shared a cup of their crab soup that was not something we would ever order again. It is pasty, over-thickened with flour and almost totally unseasoned. We would prefer a creamy soup, that is thickened with cream. We added some salt, and it helped, but it was still wallpaper paste. There is really no saving this, they need to start over and lose the flour. We also felt the food was a little over-priced for what we got. I realize the days of getting a fresh seafood basket for $6 are far behind us, but over $50 for two baskets and one cup of soup is a little steep, especially when we both drank water. Ms T said she would prefer to return to Wanchese. The food is good here, but you have been warned about the crab soup and the prices.

We took our fish to the Oregon Inlet fish cleaning station, where they did their usual excellent job of filleting and steaking out 2 wahoo that we caught. From there, please go to "Fresh Catch Seafood" in Wanchese, which is maybe a 10 minute drive from the OIFC. Customer service was second to none, and perhaps the friedliest people you're going to meet in the OBX. They took personal pride in trimming, packing, and freezing our catch, to even packing our cooler and bringing it to our car. Very fair prices and the filliet/wahoo steaks were individually vacuumed packed. Trust me, this is the seco d tine Ive used Fresh Catch and they do a great job with your catch.

Every time I've come in has been a pleasant experience. The store itself is filled with gourmet food, wine, beer and even has a nice cigar section. It's also nice that they serve coffee drinks in the back of the store that you can actually sit and have a drink at the mini bar area. Very cozy and cute! However, I'm sure I've had too much coffee this morning (I'm still drinking an iced coffee from my last stop), so no more coffee so my heart doesn't explode. I settle on a few unique seasoning packs for $20 and am out the door before I decide to buy up a bunch of their delicious chocolates like I did last time I was here!
