My partner and I had been looking for houses online for months last year and had nearly given up trying to find something that checked all of our boxes. I'm just now getting to reviewing my agent, Radhi Ahern, for a sale in SF last year. When I first met the 'team', I was more impressed with Scott Kalmbach (I met him earlier at another open house and contacted him for my sale, or so I thought). But when it came to the sale of my home, Radhi was the one that took over. From day one, I felt a lack of communication with her. She seemed overly busy and never took the time to explain things to me. She would call me from her car, or running to another meeting... always in a rush. To my surprise, she pressed me to list my apartment below market rate to attract multiple offers. Even after I questioned the sale price, she pressed... A smaller home across the street was asking for more than mine, another down the street without parking was more. She used the excuse of it not being fully 'renovated', even though my historic home was featured in numerous interior design blogs for its Victorian heritage. It was also previously professionally photographed for magazines, but they failed to use any of that press for the sale materials (claiming it was not the current state of the property: ie furnishings, it wouldn't reflect the current interior design). I agreed to make the updates they wanted (painting kitchen cabinets, better suited for their in-house photographer). I chose to not use their in-house stager (they wanted $15,000 to do so), and staged the home myself with rare mid-century antiques and art, which was more in keeping with the home. I came home a few days after the open house, and there were dead flowers everywhere (which I purchased, and they didn't water, and didn't throw away once they had died). The property had 1 brokers open, 2 open houses, and one offer date. When one offer came through, I was disappointed. When I purchased my home there were 10 offers. I wanted to leave it on the market for one more week, but she pressured me to accept the offer. She said if I left it on the market for another week people would be "scared off". I've felt badly ever since, seeing places in my neighborhood going for much more than I sold for at the time (I would have been better off selling it myself on Zillow). I honestly feel if I had gone with a better broker, I would have sold for more, and had a better experience. I recently purchased a new home and the experience was like night and day. My new agent was communicative, there for me, and gave me a bottle of Champagne at the close. read more
