Mood lighting, great stereo, you name it. My instructor is Kelly, she is amazing, especially for those with no experience. I also love how they have you sign a form to promise to love yourself and others and not to bring the negative energy in! Due to the snow/blizzard a class was cancelled and they immediately reached out to schedule us with a new class. Also, the instructor Kelly hand wrote a card about thanking us for joining and beginning this journey. I am super excited to continue. From the moment you walk in, you sanitize, remove your shoes and check in. On the first class we were 15 minutes early and they asked us to wait in the car because they want to limit people at the door, which is nice. Masks are required. Also, they sell out quick when it comes to registering! Another good sign to me. I've learned a lot in two classes and I'm so excited. This place is amazing. I want to schedule a birthday/party here too, they look so fun!!! This business is the stuff !!!

We all signed the waiver basically stating we won't sue if we're injured. The representative had us do a champagne toast for the bride-to-be before we began the class. Afterwards, the class began. We learned a sexy lap dance routine then a pole dance routine. It was extremely fun. Then they had the guest of honor do a special routine while we throw money at her. Now that was exciting!!!! The guest of honor also got a gift bag and we all got a free class card that must be used in 30 days. The party was definitively worth it! I would definitely love to do this again.

They allow drinks purchased there to be brought into the theater. They have 2 bars and a small snack area for treats. Bathrooms are gender neutral stalls. Parking is either street parking (if you feel like driving around to snag a spot), their paid lot, or I recommend using park whiz app to find a garage a couple of blocks away. It is also near CTA. I find the history of Steppenwolf to be interesting. (A great ensemble cast) Check them out!

At $30 pp for the full year, it's an incredible deal and I have always been impressed with how most if not all of the actors are pouring their heart into their performance. The costumes are fun and the sets are really cool. The only think I don't like about this place is the actual theater itself. On the outside, it's god-awful ugly. But most of the UIC campus is. It is confusing which level to enter into, but once you're inside the actual theater itself, you feel like you could be in any theater in the country. This past year I really enjoyed the Seagull and American Ma(u)l. The latter being very challenging to sit through (because of the VERY honest subject matter and explicit portrayal of race relations). I thought Hotel Baltimore was ok, but could have been better. But that's more of a judgment on the play itself rather than the actors. Is this the Steppenwolf? No, but the prices reflect that. This is a great place to go for cheap live theater.

Two vogue classes I've taken here were low-key kind of traumatizing for me. I've been dancing for a while and I normally enjoy my dance classes, but I hate the way that Damon often attacks the idea of masculinity in this class and it left me feeling deeply disrespected as an enby person. I hadn't felt that energetically misaligned and uncomfortable in a space in 10 years. I felt pressured to mask autistic traits because I was singled out for not masking those traits, making the environment very ableist. That day, I felt on the non-speaking spectrum and it was like he was trying to explain to me what was happening in the room socially, as if I didn't know. I *did* know, I just did not want to engage in the social dynamics as an autistic person who came to dance, not to socialize verbally that night. I feel perfectly fine not "fitting in" in a space, just let me not fit in! Just let me exist! I felt consistently projected upon instead of *seen*. I came in, confident and empowered as usual, and left feeling worse. My favorite vogue teacher here only teaches advanced classes now and I'm looking to figure out how I can test into her class so I can continue having an autistic-friendly, enby-friendly voguing space again.

I will admit I was a little nervous the first couple of classes, simply because I didn't know what to expect and I am by no means a "good" dancer. By that I mean I haven't taken any professional dance courses or training, I came here just as an alternative to gym workouts. I quickly realized I had nothing to be nervous about. The studio's owner and main instructor, Damon, promotes a judgment free environment where all experience levels are welcome! His joy, and positive, goofy energy is so infectious I found myself with a huge smile on my face, and a full heart. Afterwards I decided to keep coming back and bought a full monthly membership to the studio after my groupon expired. Over the past year I've taken bodyburn, restorative mobility, yoga and even tried out a contemporary class! I love all the different types of dance classes available here and the warm and welcoming community that never fails to brighten my day. I'm now a regular member and try to come to classes here 3 times a week as my regular fitness routine. I cannot recommend this studio enough, if you enjoy dancing and want to change up your fitness routine this is the perfect place to go! I also really like that for bodyburn we get a new dance routine every couple weeks I like to show off what new moves I learn to my friends and family!

Later became a subscriber, and have enjoyed every play I've seen since, and really appreciate the "Talk Backs", Q&A sessions which allow you to interact with the actors, and learn more about the plays. The subscription prices are unbelievably reasonable, but my favorite thing is the "Flex Pass" - you don't have to commit to specific dates immediately, which is invaluable when coordinating with other subscribers. On my list of "Ten Best Ways to Spend a Sunday Afternoon", a play at Remy Bumppo followed by a beer and a burger at John Barleycorn is very near the top!

No one knows about Remy Bumppo despite its unusual name and history, and despite incredible performances, despite its ability to turn me on to playwrights I knew nothing about, despite that it can get me thinking and despite that it has me craving more theatre -- seriously wishing for the next performance. Despite all this, its ambience beyond the lobby is that of a real warehouse/ experimental theatre which they share with at least one other theatre company (Eclipse). I believe this is because the Remy Bumppo Theatre Company does not have a full understanding of non-traditional marketing or guerrilla tactics for pr and their applications in today's world (and how you can achieve so much by spending so little.) I mean, I have attended one of their openings, and the food spread was opulent -- more opulent than Victory Gardens' who has a seriously beautiful and wholly owned theatre. But I digress. I'll offer marketing advice when they call me, but otherwise, I'll stick to the theatre review. And the theatre is magnificent. I saw a Pinter play almost a year ago here and haven't stopped thinking about it. I've even followed Pinter works up to Evanston to compare (and to make it clear: The Remy Bumppo performance surprised me by being far better -- like professional v. amateur -- than the Piven Theatre's). I've laughed at everything they've done and come out lighter -- even though some of their works were seriously heavy. They just know how to pick 'em: playwrights, directors and actors alike. First-rate, all the way. Remy Bumppo lends something powerful and meaningful and fun and unexpected to your life. That is why you should spend your money here. I know people in Chicago who don't consider themselves serious theatre-goers (and some who do) think that the end-all, be-all of theatre is "Wicked," but this is FAR BETTER than that. FAR more entertaining. And costs a lot less for which you will end up with so much more. I promise.
