Recommend this spot for breakfast and lunch. Ate there several times over the Holidays. Friendly staff. Very attentive. Love that the patio is pet friendly- thanks for bringing our dog his own water! Our family has been coming to Sanibel for over 40 years for summer vacations and in all that time I would say Over Easy Cafe is easily the best and most consistently good restaurant on the island. We just had breakfast there this morning and were welcomed with warm greetings, great service, and delicious food. We always make it in here a couple of times for breakfast or lunch during our stay, and have never had a complaint other than waiting for a table with other Over Easy Cafe lovers. We came here for a late breakfast/brunch on July 4th. The place was pretty busy, but we were seated right away at the counter and immediately offered menus and beverages. The place is rather small, though they certainly maximize the indoor and outdoor space they have. I would describe the decor as Eclectic Sanibel - brightly colored walls, a lot of knick knacks, paintings of chickens on the walls, earthenware looking mugs and plates. Overall, its a very welcoming atmosphere for breakfast, brunch or lunch. So first, the goods: I would say for a holiday, the service was excellent. As I mentioned, the place was definitely busy, filled with large parties of parade-goers and families, and the wait staff was definitely hussling, but we never felt rushed or pressured to order quickly, eat quickly and leave quickly. Our server gave us time to review the extensive menu, sip on some coffee and enjoy the scene prior to ordering. He was very attentive, refilled our coffee when needed and brought everything out promptly. He was great! Also, there are a lot of options to choose from on the menu - from yogurt, granola and cereal, to a wide array of omelets, scramblers and platters, to pancakes and french toast - there's literally something for nearly everyone. They even offer gluten free bread and egg white substitutions at a relatively small up-charge. Both my boyfriend and I had the Sanibel Scrambler without the ham, coffee and orange juice. If there was one thing that definitely made a surprisingly positive impression on me, it was the OJ. Now, I cannot confirm that it was fresh squeezed, but it certainly tasted like it was and had a manageable amount of pulp in it - not so much you feel like you might as well just eat the orange itself and not so little you wonder why they even bothered. As someone who's grown up in Florida nearly her entire life and has tasted a shockingly large amount of just bad OJ in this state, this was awesome. That being said...now onto the bad: I can't necessarily say that the food was "bad" per se - it tasted good - but it was definitley average diner quality. The potatoes were undercooked - in some cases hard...as in close to raw - and my English muffin underneath the pile of scrambled eggs/veggies was soggy. I get it, I get it...there's a pile of eggs on top of it, of course it's going to absorb some of the moisture and be, well, less than toasty crunchy. I am aware of this phenomenon. However, it shouldn't be gummy or essentially un-toasted, which it was. Sadly, it kind of took away from what should have been a pretty solid texture combo. Also, i would not describe the eggs as fluffy and scrambled, rather sort of just hacked through and put on the plate. They were dry and had some "char" on them, which usually just indicates that the cooking is rushed and over high heat. I will say the veggies were great - there were peppers and onions (could have been mushrooms also, I don't quite remember), and they were definitely fresh, not frozen, as they were still crisp and flavorful by the time I got them. Now...the coffee...this is the worst part of my review. The coffee is bad. Just bad. It's weakly flavored and the flavor that does exist is just intense bitterness. There wasn't enough cream and/or sugar to salvage that pot. As my boyfriend said: "it looks like muddy water and tastes like turpentine." Right-o. In the end, I really do hate to give this place a marginal review. It's super cute and the staff was wonderfully inviting and accommodating. The food - despite what you may think based on my review - doesn't taste bad per se, it's just typical diner food at a place I suppose I didn't expect to get typical diner food. There are a lot of good reviews for this place on here so there's also a solid chance the holiday and the crowds contributed to the quality. Overall, it was a pretty good experience and it is a nice place to go, just go in with the right expectations! read more

If you go to the Over Easy Cafe, do not, I repeat do not outside. We where there this morning for breakfast and were sat next to a table with 2 dogs. One barked quite frequently as customers entered the cafe. After breakfast, the owner picked up one very hairy dog onto her lap and the dog proceeded to drool on the table as well as surely shed hair on the table. It was disgusting. Although the food was good, especially the sausage, the experience with the dogs ruined the entire breakfast. read more

I often get an eggs Benedict; breakfasts are as tasty as the lunch items. My husband is an iced tea snob, but he loves theirs. Best OJ I've ever had. the Arnold Palmer was also perfect. We had breakfast and it was delicious. I had the two eggs anyway breakfast with potatoes and bacon and toast. My daughter had the cinnamon roll. We both enjoyed our meals. Everything cooked to order perfectly The vibe was fun eclectic, people were nice. The restaurant was packed and is the entire time it is open. We waited about 25 minutes but it's worth the wait. Fun stores in the same strip shopping area so you can busy yourself while waiting. Definitely a tourist trap. Locals are not welcome here. First off, there is little to no parking around this place but the restaurant is not the only business in this area. We came in on a Thursday around mid-morning and was given a buzzer for notification when our table was ready. We were not initially informed of a long wait time and there were open tables and no apparent collection of parties waiting to be seated. After sitting around waiting for about an hour we approached the hostess stand to ask where we were in the line. We were rather rudely informed that there were six tables of head of us despite the one our wait we had already sat through. At this point we were informed that it likely would be close to another hour before we were able to sit down and eat. We have previously dined here and I can honestly tell you it's not worth a two hour wait. On another note the manager informed us that the hostess was a little cranky because she had the flu. My question is why would you come to work and infect everybody you come in contact with with? Needless to say we left. On our way out we tried to "pay it forward" and give our buzzer to another party so maybe they didn't have to put up with the long wait, hassle and rudeness that we did. Once again Miss Cranky Flu Bug Hostess decided to display her lack of personality and gruffly told us she would not allow this to happen. She rather rudely grabbed the buzzer and issued them a different buzzer stating that we were trying to let the people cut in line. Of course we didn't see it that way as this trap had already wasted an hour of my day off and fully intended to waste an additional hour before serving us with a mediocre at best meal. Save yourself the headache and frustration... head off the island and find a decent meal without the hassle and rude treatment. read more

I am SO GLAD we went here. The atmosphere is charming, airy, comfortable. You are not crowded in together like in some of the restaurants on Sanibel. The eggs benedict were INCREDIBLE, the best hollandaise I have had. My husband loved his omelet and the kids liked their pancakes. The only negatives are they used canned mushrooms for my benedict, and the syrup is not real maple syrup but rather Log Cabin or something totally artificial. Being from New England, we are lovers of the real maple, which I know can be expensive, so I understand. Would have loved to try this place for dinner, but never made it. I gather they do 4 dinner nights a week during high season. If we come back to Sanibel, this is a definite must for repeated repeats!!! read more

Best breakfast on the island by far. You should get the pancakes. They have a whole variety of toppings and you can get as many of them as you want from oreos to chocolate chips to strawberries and many more. Its great for groups and all ages. Great breakfast! I had the stuffed French toast with strawberries on top and it was really good. My only complaint would be that the toast wasn't as good as others I've had. However, the cream cheese filling and the strawberries made it taste a lot better. The service was nice and very fast, and it was affordable.
