If you're looking for breakfast on Sanibel, Lighthouse Cafe absolutely deserves a visit. We love breakfast, and after trying so many places over the years, it can start to feel like every menu offers the same dishes prepared the same way. Lighthouse Cafe managed to make a classic breakfast memorable. We ordered the French toast, and the portion was huge and easy to split. More importantly, it was absolutely delicious. The eggs we ordered were cooked exactly as needed, the bacon was perfectly crisp, and the cheese grits were rich, creamy, and full of flavor. We literally cleaned our plates and ate every bite despite our intentions to simple stop by for a taste. One of the biggest surprises was adding fish to breakfast. It's not something I would have ever thought to eat for breakfast, but it ended up being one of the highlights of the meal. The fish was incredibly tender and paired surprisingly well with the rest of the meal. It was such a unique addition that it changed the way I think about breakfast. We intentionally ordered some standard breakfast items because we believe that's the best way to judge a breakfast restaurant. If a place can make the classics exceptionally well, that's usually a great sign. Lighthouse Cafe exceeded our expectations across the board with their delicious plates and service. Not to mention it is nice to visit a locally owned restaurant whose owner is present and working alongside their staff. From the quality of the food to the generous portions, everything was excellent. Dailey specials like crab cake & spinach Benedict, stuffed French toast along with typical American breakfast offerings are available. The owner, Dan greets each and everyone that walks in the door. This was certainly a great place to stop for a meal. We arrived late morning between breakfast and lunch. We were able to order pretty much anything. I elected to have the sausage and Swiss omelette. It certainly did not disappoint. The food was delicious and delivered in a timely fashion. Plenty of ingredients. Service was very good. Server was friendly and personal. They had seating outside. It was beginning to warm up but it was still comfortable, besides a Minnesota resident visiting Florida in the winter will most definitely select outside seats. Place was pretty cool on the inside with tons of photos of lighthouses. A bit noisy with all the island traffic passing out front but you got to see everyone entering and leaving the island. On the must visit list. Almost forgot to mention. The potatoes are the best followed by the homemade strawberry jam. read more

Best breakfast on the island, and they really do mean it!! The breakfast tacos were delicious, honestly some of the best I've ever had. The biscuits and gravy were great too, with a nice homemade gravy that really stood out. I also had the cranberry raisin waffle, which was a daily special. They offer rotating specials, and both of our entrées happened to be on the special menu! The coffee and juices were fresh, the service was warm and friendly, and the atmosphere felt cozy and homey. The toast came with a homemade strawberry preserve that was incredibly fresh and flavorful, a standout touch that made the meal feel extra special. The ambience is really nice and it would be a great place for a cozy dinner. So happy they are serving dinner now. They change the specials and the desserts so be sure to check before you go so you aren't disappointed your favorite it's on the menu that day. We bicycled here (Yaa, the Sanibel Causeway finally reopened to bicyclists after almost 3 years after Hurricane Ian!) from Iona not realizing that it had just opened a few weeks earlier. It was originally located near the old Lighthouse but was damaged in Hurricane Ian. This new location is only about a quarter of a mile north of the main 4-way stop (heading towards Captiva). First time visit was Friday of Memorial Day weekend at approximately 9:30am and the place was packed! We put our name on the waiting list and about 20 minutes later we were seated. Besides their regular menu, they have daily specials posted on chalkboards on each side of the room. I decided to try their Avocado Toast with 2 eggs ($14.50), and coffee, black tyvm to drink. The avocado toast was extraordinarily good, pleasantly surpassing my expectations! It had feta cheese on top and the guacamole was seriously delicious! The eggs were cooked as I had ordered and the coffee was hot and aromatic. Second visit was Tuesday morning after Memorial Day weekend and it was not nearly as busy. We were seated right away. Again I decided to try a special from their board. This time I chose their Cranberry Pistachio Waffle ($13.00). The waffle was light and good and the cranberries added a nice taste! Service was friendly and on point - checking on us throughout our meals and making sure everything was to our liking. There's outside seating as well as inside - however this time of year air conditioning feels pretty darn good! Good food, friendly and pleasant employees, and reasonable prices are reasons why I'm going with 5 stars. I definitely recommend you check them out. read more

This is our favorite place to eat on the island... For any meal! The food is consistently good, the service is efficient, and we always feel like we are home when we are there. They also have some unique breakfast items, like the Hungry Fisherman omelette, alongside the basics: bacon and eggs, waffles, oatmeal to name a few. Our family always orders the Seafood Benedict, malted chocolate, chip pancakes, the breakfast sandwich, and there's always a special of the day that we try. read more

Had a blast... my wife and I have visited lighthouses around the world and states and were delighted to see many photos of some we have visited on walls. But, on to the food which was delightful. The server worked with us and we split a Seafood Benedict plate (without the Alfredo but additional Holandais) and it was delicious. Will order again next time we are on island. read more

We were amazed by the friendly service at other restaurants on the island. We ordered a short stack of granola nut pancakes. Very skimpy on the nuts and only a few slices of bananas on top. The egg breakfast had cold potatoes, sausage and toast but warm poached eggs. The omelette had the salsa inside the omelette and just a tiny amount on top which was a bit strange? Not by any means the best breakfast in the island. Not a bad breakfast, not a great breakfast, just an ok breakfast. The ambience and owner's positive attitude rate 5 stars, but this was not "the world's best breakfast." We got engaged at the Outer Banks and had a seaside theme to our wedding, so we have a soft spot for lighthouses. It was cool looking at all the framed lighthouse art while waiting for our food, which however only rated 3 stars. Anticipating a tall "stack," I ordered just 2 of the raisin cinnamon French toast slices, but they were small, so I helped my husband eat his short-stack of buckwheat pancakes with blueberry sauce, since none of the flapjacks or waffles seemed to come with fruit. I paid $5 for half a grape fruit I could have cut better. We wanted to like Lighthouse Cafe more than we did, but I think we enjoyed the food at Hoot's near Marco Island more, even though the decor there was less interesting. read more

I love Sanibel and want to give them a good review, but I can't. Horrible food. Wheat pancakes are dry and no sweet taste. Scrambled eggs were incredibly average. Ice tea was tasteless and watered down. Bacon was beyond crispy and the potatoes were burnt and old. They tasted like they were the remains from 3 hours ago. Water tasted like chlorine and the air conditioning also seemed to be broken. read more

We love the new location for the Lighthouse Cafe. Still the same great food, wonderful service, we visited 3x on our last visit to the island. We've never been disappointed in 30+ years. New location is much more spacious but they still pack them in especially on Saturday morning when the new visitors for the week ahead arrive and the the previous week's visitors are on there way off Island. So glad they didn't go out of business and returned after Ian. Food, cleanliness, service fantastic as always! read more

Well, wait time wasn't bad. We ate at the Over Easy Cafe the day before. I guess we were spoiled. This breakfast spot was meh. Decor was beautiful, but: My egg sandwich was served with ham instead if bacon and on a Kaiser roll. My kids Philly cheesesteak was stringy and my husband's egg breakfast was super basic. The potatoes tasted like chopped up French fries. We left in a hurry and kept saying we should've gone back to Over Easy Cafe instead or maybe try Wickies. read more
