About a month ago I sent an email asking if I could come look at their costumes. It says on their…read morewebsite they do "individual costume rentals". I am looking for a halloween costume wanted to browse what they have, but also want to find a separate 1800s dress that I could possibly get made or ordered (this one would have been the need for an appointment because I want to but it not rent it). It then says on the site due to covid "If at all possible, please make sure to call us for an appointment before coming in" I asked about an appointment for the 1800 dress. They replied "we do not have time for individual costumes at this time!! I asked back do I have to have an appointment or can we like a regular shop just come browse and look around, pick a costume on out own. No reply for a month. Finally I decided to just stop by. The door says they are open, the door is locked and a sign says appointment only!! I feel like I stopped by years ago around 2018-19 hoping to find a costume and it said the same on the door. But they will not put that on their website, or reply to an email asking. Because their website is very unclear. Because "If at all possible, please make sure to call us for an appointment before coming in" suggest you can also just come in to browse. Extremely sad. I do hope another shop opens up around here with real costumes! Since Lucy in disguise closed, there is nothing within many hours that I know of with options.

It is big though... lots of selection and they are running some specials already. However when I was looking with my boys for their costumes... we found what my oldest wanted... it was $80 in his size... but the larger ones of the same costume were $70?!? Same exact costume... same manufacturer, same stuff in it, but $10 difference between the smaller and the larger sizes. I asked what was the deal and the guy looked them up... all he could say was yep... that's it... that's how they are priced. What?!? Seriously?!? It made zero sense! However being the dad I am... and my boy really wanting it... we bought it... in my mind they should have marked it down by the $10... but there was not even an offer of that. It's really small, it's got a decent selection of costumes and decor, but it almost looks like it's not completely put together yet. The animatronics seemed a bit overpriced in comparison to other local Halloween stores but they were different from what I've seen before. I purchased some window clings for my toddler's bedroom that I'm actually really happy about but I'm not sure if I will go back to purchase anything else. Also, when did fake spiderwebs become eight dollars!? That's crazy!

One store is located in the Arboretum Crossing shopping center in the former Toys R Us space, just a few doors up from Dave & Busters (where Mopac Expressway and 183/Research Blvd meet). Their other location is located right beside the Austin Aquarium, at the intersection of 183/Research Blvd and Anderson Mill road. They have just about everything. Its amazing the amount of Halloween merchandise they carry (really friendly and helpful staff too). Nice to be treated like a valued customer - don't see much of that these days in other stores. Just had to share my great experience. Kudo's to Halloween Express for doing it right!

Not all the public wear or enjoy or participate in this ridiculous expense. A shopping experience should be for all and simple. Other stores don't overrun the entire place with such decor. People have their own stigma, mental illness (example:PTSD, bipolar, autism) that they should not have to endure such horrid triggers to their shopping exploration. Shoes are super expensive too. Having moved from California, my local Salvation Army was extremely cheap. $2 shirts, $3 pants. I guess I just don't really understand why everything is so expensive, given that the inventory is donated. The quality of the clothing is nothing spectacular, either. I guess I'm just really not impressed with this particular Goodwill. I think I will give the Salvation Army a try.
