I have been wanting to explore Oxbow for awhile. Last night we had the opportunity to check out their happy hour. I've sat in the restaurant before and since the last time we were there they put in a beautiful lobby bar. The happy hour wine was a Sangiovese and was outstanding. Great value at $5 a glass. The duck wings were on special for happy hour and we ended up having a couple of orders they were so good. The warm artichoke dip was flavourful and delicious. The service was impeccable, we were welcomed and not rushed. The staff were always checking in without being intrusive. We spent 2.5 hours there and had a fantastic time. Very cozy place. Had dinner with 2 friends and we all ordered the same thing and they were able to accommodate my dairy issue! We had the set menu of French onion soup which had a deep rich onion flavour w/o any sourness; so the ratio of alcohol was perfect. The main was a braised short rib with polenta. I had mine with roasted potatoes and veggies . Meat was divinely tender and not over salted or seasoned. The portion was just right. We finished with a vegan beet chocolate dessert. Very dense like fudge and bittersweet with tart calamansi purée, beet powder, and coconut cream which was incredible! Really enjoyed this meal with friends and will return to try other items. The ambiance was perfect and service attentive. Only wish I knew there was underground parking next door as I parked a few blocks away. read more

I love the food here and the service. I'm staying here in the hotel and, due to time restrictions in my schedule, decided to eat here for dinner and breakfast. This was definitely my lucky day because the food is amazing. The pea and ricotta gnocchi is so delicious! I would definitely order this again. I wanted to order the Prix Fixe menu, but unfortunately they had sold out of it by the time I got there. (A good sign! I need to come back!) For breakfast, the stand out dish for me was the Berry Smoothie bowl. I wasn't sure what to expect, but my dish was not only Breakfast Art, but it was so delicious that I'd love to have this every morning! The bartender here was also great. My sister ordered me a cocktail (unfortunately, I don't know the name of it) and I really liked it. I've been to the Oxbow a number of times and even prior to the name change (ie: Chef's Table). Tonight's meal was a complete disappointment. Starting with the coat check - a ticket for the jacket's was not given. We came earlier for dinner due to this being a Sunday and work the next day. The order was taken around 5:40 and no issues with drinks coming. My wife ordered the wine pairing. We ordered the tasting menu, and assumed that everything would come in a nicely timed fashion due to this being a set menu. There were 3 table seated when we arrived, us being the 4th - (All tables had 3-4 people at them - no large parties) The appetizers arrived promptly - 5:45, no issues there. However, no aperitif or cleanser. French onion soup w/foie gras was the appetizer. Soups were presented with no explanation for the dish. This being a measly 3 course, the mains were next. The main's arrived at 6:30. We waited 45 minutes for the main course. 2 dishes - Ling Cod, and Beef short rib. Considering the time we ordered and how many other tables there were when we ordered, this is a pretty excessive amount of time. The dishes again were "Dropped" off at the table with no explanation for the dishes - similar to that of a road side diner. By the time we received these dishes, the dining room was full. I understand that the server may be busy, but there has to be some semblance of an experience considering the name and reputation of the restaurant. At the same time, this is not my first rodeo. - The Beef short rib was dry (probably from spending so much time under the heat lamp), salty, and chewy. - The Ling Cod was overcooked. Dry again, and a tough exterior and dry interior. The cod was tasteless (un- seasoned) and relied heavily on the sauce to compensate. The dessert was next and that was a complete mess of flavors (or lack thereof) and texture. This was a chocolate brownie with berry sorbet, with a side of candied beets. - The brownie was tasteless and bitter. It was neither soft nor moist. The mixture for the brownie created a very flour/powder texture in the mouth, not sure what happened there. The Sorbet was again tasteless and when taken together with the brownie created a very bitter sour taste. The candied beets, were crispy and eaten alone was "okay". However, the texture was a sticky mess that stuck to your teeth worse than caramel. Overall the experience of the sticky beets, the floury brownie and tasteless sorbet was very memorable (Not in a good way). We ended up at Village ice cream which was far better than this. As I was the driver, I ordered a pop/soda, and that sat empty for the better part of the 2nd half of the meal. No ask for a refill or another drink. The server that cleaned up the main dishes didn't ask. Sad. At the end, we got our check, paid the bill, left a small tip (10%) due to the poor experience. then realized that we never received a receipt for our jackets...more fun! Overall, this was a very disappointing experience from the meal through to the service. The server mentioned that the wine was discounted during happy hour however, we got the wine pairing for the set menu assuming that each course would have a wine pairing (pretty typical assumption when ordering a set menu) - however, the wine pairing was only for the main course (no apppie or dessert wine). So why would I waste my money on a single glass of wine for the wine pairing on a set menu, when I could order discounted wine by the glass? Poor server service. All in all, I cannot recommend coming here based on the price and server provided tonight. read more

The ambience is great. Wait staff are courteous and attentive. I love the vol au vent and the WHISKEY-SOAKED PEACH CRUMBLE. However very very disappointed with beef strip loin. The meat doesn't have the natural flavor and tastes very earthy and sauce doesn't improve the meat either. Not worth the money. read more

We have tried oxbow a few times over the last month. The location is amazing, love the al fresco dining experience and the servers are very professional. Unfortunately the food does not measure up to the hype. Maybe I am to used to the amazing Chefs table dishes that were at this location previously, but I wanted more. For the appetizers we tried, most were very good. For the mains we tried the flank steak (was tough and not prepared the best), the striploin (overcooked and was not happy with the African spices), the lamb (was very good), and the chorizo pasta (lacking flavor, boring and bland). We have it a few tries since we love the location, but we won't be back. If the review was based only on the food, was only 1.5 stars. But the location and server quality brings it up to at least a two star. The creativity of the chefs is lacking. The potential is there for a great restaurant but food needs to be the star. read more

We were looking for a nice restaurant for the last night of our vacation and Oxbow did not disappoint. Everything from the atmosphere, to the service and especially the food was amazing. The restaurant has a main dining room, and a smaller dining room that looks into the open kitchen, which was really cool! We started with the smoked albacore tuna and the white bean hummus appetizers, both of which were super flavorful and creative dishes. For my entree, I ordered the beef striploin with potatoes, turnips and the most amazing chermoula sauce. I seriously would have eaten a cardboard box if it had that sauce on it. Unfortunately it looked so amazing I forgot to take a pic, whoops! For dessert I ordered the white chocolate mousse with chocolate brownie and sour cherry compote and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful evening. If you're in the area you should definitely make a stop at Oxbow a priority. read more

This was a fantastic choice while staying in Calgary. My wife and I enjoyed the charcuterie board which had 5 exceptional meat choices. She went with the Salmon and thought the lime pea mash complimented the salmon well and I thoroughly enjoyed the bison flank steak. If I ever come back to Calgary I will definitely make this a stop while here. Just to put the cherry on top, the service was fantastic. Enjoy! read more
