If you're looking for native plants in the area, the Oxbow Plant Stand is a GREAT place to go. They've got a good variety of different plants at an affordable price. The employee working when we were there was super helpful and the health of the plants themselves was really robust! Very cute farm to visit :D Easy to spot with their big sign although you must pay attention that they are open to public just on weekend. Plenty of parking. During rainy days, it's gonna get muddy walking through that lot. It gets better once you pass the entrance and go through the path. You will go along the Oxbow Lake on one side and apple trees on the other. After that path, you'll get to the farm where small vegetable, pumpkin, and sunflower patches are. Everything is so cute! The most interesting part is the conservation tent is. Super big and full of baby plants. Amazing! Just don't touch anything :) They grow a lot of flowers too. They have tomatoes in another tent. There are activities for kids such as painting pumpkins or scavenging hunt. You can also have lunch at the tables and buy cider from them :) read more

We got CSA for the first time ever from Oxbow this year and we really enjoyed our experience. $500 for two people seems like a lot, but as we eat mostly vegetarian and shred some veggies with some family, we were able to get through it. We liked the market style where we could pick what we wanted. We loved their heirloom tomatoes, golden beets, rainbow chard, and black futsu squash. Staff were also super friendly. We just had two issues: 1) Their communication wasn't great. Emails would say that they had things available and we'd show up when they opened at the farmer's market or at the farm and that item wouldn't be there (e.g. peppers or fennel). They didn't notify people when they ripped up their flower fields and I specifically drove over 30 minutes to come to the farm at the end of October to get what I thought would be the last-of-the-season blooms. They also had terrible signage around their farm when they started switching their entrance, but wanted Wednesday pick-ups to still be at the same old field. 2) You really do have to pay attention to their math when they total your weekly spendings and track it throughout the season. It's just in a binder in pen, and more than once we had a miscalculation, including one where they someone wrote down that we spent $60 on vegetables, which is a LOT of money. That said, we liked the CSA enough that we will do it again next year, and we were very happy to see native plants on sale during Oxtober. We hope they continue to prosper and do well! read more

This hidden gem is about 30 minutes outside of Seattle. This working organic farm and conservation area was open for a fall festival called #oxtober2020. They had a pumpkin sling shot and hay rides available along with food and self guided walking tours. It was a perfect cure to being inside for so long during Covid. There was no fee for parking or entrance. This is a non profit who provides food for farmers markets and food insecure. I hope to return but remember to wear rain boots or hiking boots to deal with the mud. read more

We went here for Pollinator Day. You have to make reservations on Evitebrite. Easy parking. I was a bit underwhelmed by the event. There were a few booths (bat, honey, and bbq grill for food buying). I feel like there could of done a better job with having more vendors and establishing a more enticing event for kids/patrons. There was 1 station for coloring (flower making). Checked out the stand with my family last summer and it was fine. was curious to see what else was there and walked down the road just for a sec and the lady at the stand yelled at me and said no dogs. my dog was leashed and I didn't see any signs that said dogs not allowed. kinda killed it for me, especially after we bought something too. not going back and I do not recommend for dog owners. read more

Coming from a farming community, I'm always on the lookout for places that help educate people on what it takes to grow tasty and healthy produce. Oxbow does just that with a smile on their face! When we visited they did a wonderful job explaining where we could find the different parts of the farm we were interested in exploring and sharing what else we could look forward to on our next visit. We swung by in autumn and they were in full blown harvest festival. Pumpkins were out, warm drinks were being served, and there were apples to be picked. I very much enjoyed walking around the garden area and seeing the informative signs teaching about the plants and food growing around the farm. Can't wait to return over the following seasons to see and experience all they have to offer. Btw, if you are looking to buy produce, you can! There is a little stall at the entrance of the farm with locally grown produce ready for purchase. read more

I got the pleasure of going on a field trip with my daughter and her classmates to the Oxbow farm and it was Amazing! They were so awesome with all of the kids and we as adults got to participate with so many hands on activities! They teach you so much about food and our environment. We did our Halloween pumpkin picking and festivities at Oxbow this year and it was a great time! Easy parking and not fee to get in. It's a beautiful farm with a very close to nature feel. Lots of great pumpkins to choose from. There were food trucks for savory and sweet (though what a let down that the donut truck didn't have a classic apple donut!!). They had picnic tables set up and live music playing (with a ton of signs from the band insisting no one take their picture). The grounds were gorgeous and we enjoyed walking around looking at the vegetables and flowers. They also had a fun hay area where we got some great pics of the babies. It's not the most "exciting" place so it will depend on the vibe of your crowd and age of kids if this is the right place. If you want something a little more low key this is a great farm! read more

Although I've only been a CSA member of Oxbow for the past couple of months, I'm in love with the weekly brilliant rainbow of beautiful organic produce, fresh from the field and dotted with water droplets. If you've eaten at any good restaurant in Seattle that emphasizes seasonal and local food, you've probably seen Oxbow's goods on the menu, and nibbled them from your plate in delight. After having used a local produce delivery service for a while, I decided it was time to take the full CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) plunge and put my money where my ethiculinary mouth is. Oxbow's produce is almost entirely grown on site, is organic and certified Salmon Safe, and their growing season is twenty weeks from June through October. This year they've incorporated four weeks of a winter share as an extra option, and I'm so thrilled that I'll have an extra month of this lovely goodness! You can select a Family or Small Share; the larger is $30/week, and the smaller is $20/week. There are occasional add-ons you can purchase, as well as a separate Fruit Share. While Oxbow doesn't deliver to the door, they have about twenty pick-up points around the greater Seattle area (and you only need to get ten shareholders together to establish your own): one of the reasons I prefer this option is because it can be difficult to get a delivery driver into a secured building, so having a pick-up point actually works much better and provides greater ease. And did I mention the produce is gorgeous? There's no thrill like slicing into a little red potato and seeing a purple-flecked center ringed with gold, or seeing chard ribs so deeply scarlet they seem to generate their own deep light, or blending tomatillos and onions into a bright green and utterly addictive salsa. It's a thrill to visit Oxbow itself (as we did today to pick out a couple of pumpkins!) and see the dirt that grows this and the people who tend it. So grateful.... If you're someone who needs to do last-minute changes, or travels frequently and must put deliveries on hold, Oxbow might not the best; you can change your pick-up point with enough advance notice, but you can't be reimbursed for a missed week (although you could certainly get a friend to benefit from your absence and take it instead!). I'm fine with that; it's the price you pay for being fully committed to the CSA model and supporting a small local farm that can't afford the trappings of a bigger (and less local) operation. They, in turn, support back by donating extra produce to local centers and having volunteer gleaning days a couple of times a year. Bottom line? Signing up with Oxbow has been a beyond-perfect decision. I can't say enough about how wonderful their ethic AND their produce is...but my kitchen, palate, and satisfied guests can tell the tale. read more

I have the best time anticipating what to make every Sunday night. I get the small box of veggies which is enough for two people (unless you juice daily) and of their fruit share. I am learning about what real fruits and vegetables look and taste like and how to incorporate them into my diet. I feel great because not only am I taking care of my body but I am part of something special- sustainability! As recent transplants from Minneapolis, my husband and I were interested in finding a local CSA in West Seattle and we found Oxbow and we were very pleased! As we were new we signed up for 4 weeks of veggies and fruit, we were really excited about the fruit option! The produce every week was beautiful and delicious! Also, the recipes are really great! We enjoyed the Sunday pick up and right outside of the farmers market in case we needed any additional fruits or veggies! We will return again as customers in 2016!! read more

Pro: Food fresh and high quality. Con: They will often announce product replacements in email that won't end up in the box. Also, if you ever make a mistake and show up on the wrong night, customer service says "too bad - see you next week!" So... no option to drive up to Carnation? Where did my box go? So, food good. Decided to go pumpkin hunting at Oxbow with my family. We drove 30 minutes to get there, and they were closed on a perfectly sunny dry day because there was a forecast of rain. Checked their website before hand, and it wasn't clear they would be closed. Really frustrating and embarrassing. We won't go here again. Thanks for responding Jessica. I checked the website, and the main page advertises your Oxtober festival with a link for updates for 10/21 and 10/22 in white near the center of the page. It was really not clear that you were closed today. I was so excited to take my son on his 1st pumpkin hunting adventure at your farm. My husband and I subscribed to the summer CSA and loved it! A great variety of fresh organic vegetables each and every week and for a very fair price! We got to try a lot of things that we typically don't buy at the regular grocery store, and since we paid for it in advance, we always ate everything because we didn't want to waste our money. I love my Oxbow CSA box. I've been a member since 2010 (I think) and I love the wonderful and delicious veggies that come every week, ESPECIALLY THE CARROTS. I also get the fruit share. The cherries and peaches are fantastic. The small share is perfect for two people (we aren't strict vegetarians) and I love not having to buy veggies and fruit all summer long. This is our first summer with Oxbow Farm CSA. We previously used another larger, more well-known CSA (but their produce we frequently wilted and I always felt like they were getting away from their roots with trying to up-sell with non-local expensive specialty items). We LOVE Oxbow. We love their education mission, their farm, and especially their produce. Their prices are very reasonable for the quality and the quality is outstanding. Fun fact: in addition to being a farm and having a CSA, Oxbow has an education center! My organization came to Oxbow for a field trip this week, and we had a fabulous time! The enthusiasm of the farmers was contagious, and our group of preteens had a great time tasting fresh fruits and vegetables, learning about the different parts of plants, and hiking the Oxbow Trail. We especially loved exploring the "Living Playground," running through tunnels and climbing on broken down tractors. Farmer Sarah and her fellow farmers really made our trip wonderful. read more

The produce we get every week is beyond perfect. The lettuce heads are crisp and have an amazing lack of bug nibbles considering its organic. We get great big stalks of leek, nice fat fennel bulbs, amazing onions, cool purple carrots etc etc. We started this csa because we have a habit of buying the same boring veggies every time and this forced us to branch out and try new things. Before joining this csa I had never eaten fennel, leeks, japanese turnips, purple carrots, dragon tongue beans, fava beans,radicchio, and there are a few varieties of exotic lettuces. We also get the fruit share and its amazing too, the fruit is picked ripe and ready to eat and is so sweet and juicy. The first couple of weeks the box feels a little light but as the season picks up it get super full and heavy. I am even gonna start learning to can the extras that we cant seem to get through each week. We will be doing this csa in the future as long as its available and we are excited for the extended winter share too! read more
