I've always wanted to do more U pick stuff and my friend suggested we stop here when we were in the area for another event. It's right off the main road, easy to find, plenty of parking and very clean port a potty on site. The person working the stand was super helpful and informative. On the day of our visit they had U pick green beans and pickling cucumbers. My friend spent so much money on pickling cucumbers (I guess they are all water and very heavy), but I had a nice time picking enough green beans for the next nights dinner for a reasonable price. They also had already picked corn that you could take home for about 75 cents each. Both tasted delicious when cooked up the following day, my friend is making pickles so that will take some time. Next up is squash, closer to the end of October, I'm tempted to return to pick some spaghetti squash, they will also have acorn and pumpkins. Currently they have 4 sunflower mazes, we were in a bit of a hurry so we only did one, but it was a really nice photo opp and a good excuse to add in some more steps. On the day we visited there was a sale for 5$, but the price is normally 10$ for all 4, very reasonable. The maze we choose, since we didn't go to the website like we were encouraged to do, was just an out and back, but the other 3 might be more maze like. This was my first time in a sunflower field and very fun on a warm, sunny day. I did not realize there would be so many bees, but they left us alone. If you want something fun to do with the kids outdoors or just love berries, this is for you. What's extra nice is that they open late so you can totally do this afterwork rather than wait until weekend where it can get crowded :) We decided to check this place out after work and there quite a few people there so I assume that the weekend would be super busy. The process is that you get a box that they provide, go toward the field where another person will assign where you can pick and then you just start picking. Super easy. Once you finish, you bring it back, they weigh your strawberries and you pay. Another bonus is that they accept credit cards! I had a pretty fun time here. Come a couple hours after open for more of a treasure hunt. They usually run out of ripe berries within 3 hours. I went to pick up strawberries but the farm was full of weeds. The strawberries were too small and the overall experience was not too good.

My first time strawberry picking, happy to report we went to the right farm. This place had good amount, but heads up large parts of the field were already over picked by the second week in (when we ventured out for the picking). The strawberries are pretty sweet and reasonably priced, really delicious affair going on right now with homemade strawberry shortcakes prep. Fun thing to do with family. Tip - go early to avoid large day time crowds. Be sure to dress comfortably and avoid your best summer outfits. You're bound to get hot, sweaty and dirty bending down to the bushes that are low to the ground. Most importantly, don't put unwashed strawberries in your mouth! They have pesticides so definitely not a good idea, as I saw a bunch of tourists do today. read more

Today I learned my kids are capable of picking 10lbs of strawberries in an hour. This is a lovely little farm in carnation and the fruit is delicious! We arrived on a weekday morning soon after opening. We were directed to a row and we picked to our heart's content. I love picking my own strawberries. They are just so much tastier and sweeter, and juicier than the supermarket ones. Plus it's way cheaper! And more fun! I wanted to go strawberry picking and I found two places in Carnation, including this one. The other place seemed more like a small family theme park, so I opted to go with this one. Harvold's is a smaller farm that does strawberries and raspberries. When you check in, you pick up this adorable wooden carrier and a cardboard box, which conveniently fits perfectly into the carrier. There is a sign that explains how it works - after you pick up a carrier and box, go to one of the employees and they'll tell you which row you can pick strawberries from. You start from where the flag is, and when you're finished, you move the flag to the point where you stopped. This way, they can sort of prevent all the rows from being overpicked, so that they can keep the U-pick season going. It's fun because it's kind of like treasure-hunting. The ripe strawberries are hiding beneath huge green leaves. This is a great wholesome activity for friends and families. Once you are done picking all the strawberries you want, go back to the check-in area and there's a kiosk where these kids will weigh your strawberries and you can pay. When I was there, there was a sign for cash only. I'm not sure if they take credit card ever, so definitely bring enough cash with you. I recommend wearing wellies (can be muddy, especially if it had been raining the night before) or at least sneakers, but not flip flops. And bring water and a hat and sunscreen, since you're picking outside and it's not covered at all. There are porta-potties if you need to go. Check their facebook site to see when U-pick season starts and ends. I've found that strawberry U-pick is pretty short and just in the month of June. Also, after you pick the strawberries, you need to eat them pretty quickly. I went a little overboard and picked so many, that I shared as much as I could to get help eating them and baked them into strawberry muffins too. I should've freezed some too. Me and my boy friend visited here almost end of the U-pick season. Our strawberries were not super big and fresh. Although we picked so many strawberries and rasberries as well. Rasberries were bigger, juicy and well riped than what you can get from grocery. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Location wasn't too bad; it only took 40 mins from where I live. I absolutely love this local farm for berry picking! Its a no frills place where the focus is on their beautiful fruits. This farm has strawberries and raspberries. Strawberry season began 6/12 and they're open Mon through Sat (Sun closed) from 8am - 8pm. They update their FB page frequently so follow them there for the latest information. The strawberries are uber sweet!!! Strawberries are $1.40/lb (very affordable) and they provide containers to bring your fruits home. Bring wet wipes and be in clothes and shoes that don't mind a little some dirt. It is a bit of back breaking work especially for adults because the fruits are pretty much ground level. It's great for kids but I recommend putting them in long pants. There are some prickly thorns so just be aware. Nothing too sharp just more of an annoyance for the kids. On sunny days, recommend a hat and lots of sunscreen. There is plenty of parking available but it can get quite busy on the weekends. As of right now they anticipate raspberries in full swing around 7/4 but again, check their FB page. Raspberries are super easy and more fun to pick IMO. Plus it's a lot cleaner and easier to sneak in a few tasty morsels while you're picking! We came on the very last day of the season so I wasn't expecting very easy picking. I'm sure if I were to come in mid-season, I would have a much better impression of the place. Berry price changes throughout the season, with the cheapest berries during the peak of harvest. Today was $2.75 a pound for raspberries. They were pretty scarce and we only managed 1-1.5lbs an hour per person. If you come here to pick strawberries, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you bring your own gloves and little stool. The gloves are to protect your hands from the prickly strawberry leaves. I also brought a stool because when you're in the hot sun stooping or bending to pick strawberries, you'll get tired really easily. I just dragged my stool across the row and it was easy peasy. I loved how they assigned us our own row to pick from, because it made our time a lot more relaxed. The bushes on our row were bursting full of fruit and they were so easy to pick (side note: from my limited experience berry picking, picking raspberries trumps blueberries and strawberries in terms of how easy/fun they are to pick. Downside is that washing raspberries is tough since they're so fragile!). We picked on Saturday, 6/25 and that day raspberries were $2.50/lb. They did accept credit cards, but that Within a few hours, we had amassed 22 lbs of berries and racked up quite a bill, but it was so worth it. The Harvold Berry Farm is a simple U-Pick place with delicious fruits and reasonable prices. I love that my produce doesn't have to travel around half the world (or even the continent), and it just tastes so much better when it's fresh. We came here, it's not hard to find and they have plenty of parking spots, picked up a carrier + paper box and went out on the field. We picked about 7lbs of ripe and flavorful strawberries, paid on the way to the car (9.80$), went home and cooked delicious strawberry jam with them. That's how I preserve the taste of summer in jars for the colder days to come! I can see why some people don't like coming here, there is no big entertainment, you have to actually work for your fruits (aka U-PICK) and as strawberries and other fruits don't grow in a shady forest you will be exposed to the sun. There are many places to get your berry needs met in Carnation. But, I think Harvold's is the best. For $1/lb the prices simply can't be beat. The fields are well maintained and they aren't overrun like Rem's. Plus, it's JUST berries. You don't have to compete with rides and other distractions for kids. Just pickin' The fields were so full of perfectly ripe and delicious berries that in just under an hour I'd picked about 6 lbs. They were perfectly sized and packed full of flavor. Parking is available in dirt/grass lots and is free. The folks who were here were nice and very friendly and gave very clear and helpful instructions. Everything is well organized and ran very efficiently. The hardest part was waiting for our berries to be weighed and it probably took a matter of minutes. Today was the first day of the U-pick strawberry season at Harvold 6/26/11. My boyfriend and I decided to go try our hand at picking berries. When we got there there were quite a few people there but there were plenty of berries. They had boxes for us to use while picking. They led us to a row and had sticks to indicate how far each row had been picked. It was all very organized. When you are done picking you move the stick and then take your berries up to be weighed. The cost is $1.00/lb. Very reasonable. Like the first poster, I also took one star off because the berries were tasty but not that sweet. Maybe it is the variety. We live for fresh picked raspberries and lots of 'em, so when I heard they were available at Harvold, we planned a Saturday morning of berry-picking. It was pouring rain on the day we chose, but we would not be discouraged - we must have our berries! Harvold had both strawberries and raspberries available the day we went. It was a little confusing when we parked where we were supposed to go to get a basket, and when we asked if we could pick anywhere, we were told we would be assigned a row. I was a little put off that I had to ask for this information, and when we got to the row, it wasn't really clear that it was okay to pick there, since there was no one directing traffic. The organization and signage would use some work. Still, we did end up with a row to ourselves, and there were raspberries galore, and they were quite delicious, to say the least. The two of picked sixteen pounds in under an hour! Checking out was similarly confusing - there was only on handwritten sign with a price, which turned out to be the price of the strawberries, not the raspberries, which was unfortunate as the raspberries were twice the price. So, a bit of avoidable sticker shock on the way out. That said, I'd go back in a heartbeat - the raspberries are good, we got plenty of them, and the whole place was friendly and low-key. read more

They have 2 fields with strawberries : one is ready for pick up early ( start of June ), they are large but not very sweet, and second one ready for picking later , it's small size berries but deliciously sweet! Also raspberries available for picking, but later in July , after strawberry season is over. This year they start to accept credit cards, but with 2.75% processing fee, my advice just bring cash with you , it's only $1.30 per pound. We've been picking berries at Harvolds for a few years now. The prices are low and the berries delicious. The strawberries are great, but the raspberries are amazing. The aisles in the raspberry fields are wide enough to accommodate a stroller, which is nice if you're bringing kids along. The strawberry fields are not stroller friendly as the rows are close together. Wear a hat and sunscreen, there is no shade! The farm is always closed on Sunday and varies it's days of operation from week to week, based on the weather and how busy they've been. This insures that the fields aren't "picked out" when you go. Going to a farm to pick your own berries is such a fun and rewarding experience. Not only do you get to pick the best of the best berries, but you get to sample some while picking them. Earlier today I went to Harvold to pick raspberries. I really liked how it was organized. You're given a bucket or box to collect berries in and then a staff member instructs you to head to a certain "aisle" of berries. This ensures you don't spend too much time sifting through rows of berries with little yield. Also, it ensures not too many people are congregated in one place. Over the course of an hour or so my mom and I picked a ridiculously huge amount of berries. I have so many... any recommendations on what to do with them would be appreciated. Staff were friendly, it was well-organized, and best of all the price was $2.50 per pound. I'm new to this u-pick berries thing but compared to what you pay at the store ($3 for a half-pint) I thought the price was a steal. For less than $18 I have more berries than I possibly know what to do with. I also saw lots of corn at Harvold and they also have strawberry harvests (although I guess strawberry season just ended). When I saw a mention in Sunset magazine listing Harvold Berry Farm as a "Don't Miss!", I put it on my summer To Do list. After picking up one of my kids from camp near Carnation, we headed over on a Wednesday afternoon. The first thing you need to know is that they only take cash, not even checks. There is a Bank of America ATM on the rear side of GiGi's cafe, south of Harvold on 203, if you need cash. The ATM fee was $2. The second thing you need to know is that the map and address given are wrong. The berry fields are on the west side of 203 south of NE 55th Street. There are signs along the road, but if you go to the address on the map thinking that it wouldn't lead you wrong, you'll have to turn around. Parking is in a grass field. As described in another review, you get a cardboard tray that fits into a wooden carrying box. On July 3rd, strawberries were still fruiting but not what I would call abundant. We picked about 5 pounds and that took four of us (including three kids 10 and under) a nice amount of time. There is no shade on the strawberry field, so put sunscreen on, and bring a water bottle. After checking out with the strawberries, we decided to pick raspberries, which were already coming ripe. The raspberries were abundant, with a bumper crop to come. I also would note that we saw very few berries on the vines (both strawberries and raspberries) that had insect damage; read into that whatever you like and wash your berries well. A quick word about the employees -- they were so very nice and helpful. They gave us directions to the ATM and suggestions for lunch spots in the area. They were able to give rough estimates of how many pounds of each type of berry that the trays would hold and they directed us to good places to pick. So, nice employees, enough crops, easy picking, excellent price, and lots of fun. Now, the so-so bits that dragged this rating down to a 3... The strawberries were small and covered in dried dirt from the field. Each berry basically had to be hand-scrubbed, which is a LOT of work. Take that into consideration when you go in planning on picking 20 lbs of strawberries! Also, they started to decompose very rapidly. We picked right before having a late lunch and by dinner, the strawberries looked horrible. Many of them had already started to turn brown and mushy. This was not just a select few, where you'd think that maybe you'd just grabbed a few bad berries in the bunch. It was almost every single berry. I had to wash and freeze them immediately just to make sure I'd be able to use them. And, as another reviewer mentioned, the flavor of the strawberries is just okay -- a little more tart than sweet. Now, the raspberries held up better, but I'll say that their flavor just isn't very robust. We're condensing them down to make a raspberry syrup, so it will all end well, but to eat plain, they won't wow you. So, 5 stars for price, fun, and great staff. 2 stars (which on here is "Meh, I've had better") for product. If we're in the area at the right time of year, we'd probably go back again, but we will know that we need to process the fruit immediately when we get home. read more

We are so glad we decided to stop by Harvold Berry Farm. The raspberry picking was amazing! They were ripe and sweet. The berries were so tempting that my elderly parents couldn't help themselves and tried one. I felt terrible since they weigh it by the pound, but I had to admit it was tempting. My mom initially didn't want to go, yet she changed her tune immediately when she saw the red berries. The price beats any grocery store at $3.50 a pound. Raspberries are also a lot less work to pick than strawberries since they are off the ground. The staff was sweet and helpful. They give you a row to yourself, so you are not in a hurry to grab the best ones. The system is simple and efficient. Once you are done picking, they weigh the box at the front stand. Easy to find right off of highway 203, on the north side of Carnation. A group of enthusiastic young guys were running the show and made it easy for us to just grab a bucket and get to it! July 7, 2011. Took the 45 minute drive from Kent to Harvolds. Saw the sign for Remlingers and was tempted to stop, but was glad we drove the exta mile to Harvold's small farm. Berries were pretty ripe, with some sour and some sweet. Small berries, with sweeter, larger berries on the sun facing sides. $1 a lb can't be beat- took us 45 minutes to pick 10lbs, and the kids had a blast especially when they saw the two young deer wander through the patch.
