The service was good. The gal at the register however needed some review on running the till. They had run out of soup for the day. So we just ordered sandwiches that were amazing. I have to hand it to the owner because every customer that came in he let them know right up front while looking at the menu board that they were out of chili and soups. He said at the moment they are just a sandwich shop. He was so sweet and personable. My husband had the grinder and I had the toastie. We would both order the exact same thing again. My pulled pork was so tasty and I enjoyed the poblano avocado ranch on it. We will definitely be back as they have started soup flights. Can't wait to stop in this winter for that. It reminds me of eating in a deli shop nothing over the top but lots of seating. read more

I occasionally drive through this little town of Montello and I've always noticed this little soup place and wanted to stop. Unfortunately it was never at lunchtime. Well, today I finally made it! I love soup and this place doesn't disappoint. Today they had 5 to choose from. Soup comes in three sizes, cup, bowl and lg bowl (which Hass to be a pale because the bowl is huge!) I got the regular "bowl" and it was huge, definitely a meal in itself. You can also order soup in a bread bowl. As I looked around the room at other people's meals, I found myself wishing I lived near here so I could be a regular! The salads are gigantic, so are the subs. I was really impressed with today's special, it was chicken Alfredo in a bread bowl. Looked spectacular... might have to find my way back to try that one. As for me, I ordered a bowl of cheeseburger soup and a Reuben. Couldn't finish it all. They have a table with a bunch of different flavors of oyster crackers. Help yourself dispensers, all included with your soup. I'm sure if you're a local you know about this place. But if you're driving through or here vacationing, you need to give this down-home soup and sandwich business a try. People who work there are really friendly, and I was impressed that all three of them made it to my table during my meal to ask me how things were going. Oyster Crackers is a great stop when diving up or down I39 in Wisconsin. Montello is pretty close by. Every day, the very friendly owners prepare fresh soups, sandwiches, and desserts. There are always gluten-free options. It was an overcast day, so I got the Chili. I helped myself to some garlic pepper oyster crackers to pair with it. As expected in Wisconsin, the chili was a Midwestern preparation, not spicy and with a touch of sweetness. It was very tasty, having black beans and ground beef in it. The Cordon Bleu soup was gluten-free, had a great mix of chopped chicken, ham, potato, and other veg in a creamy broth. We could have had a flight of soups. The sandwiches that walked by looked beautiful, but we kept it lighter since we had miles to go yet. The atmosphere was fun and quirky. Order at the counter and pay cash. Check out the extensive sandwich menu on the big wall blackboard and all the humorous sandwich pictures/art. Yelp guided me here one day. Far from my home, weary from work and hungry, I wandered in to an inviting scene. Quaint place with a lot of personality. Local treats and wares for sale all over. Large selection of handcrafted sodas and a gourmet oyster cracker bar! Now to the food. On one wall there is a giant handwritten chalkboard menu with quit an eclectic selection of classic and a few little more gourmet options. Wraps, sandwiches and handmade soups! I had the spicy honey chicken wrap (amazingly delicious) and some chicken gnocchi soup (somehow even better than the sandwich). Friendly staff, reasonable prices make this place a must visit spot! And perhaps the best feature of this place, is their pay it forward wall. You can make a cash donation for someone to use in the future and add it to an envelope on the wall. We had been shopping some of the cute shops in Montello and were starving. For a late lunch. We happened upon this cute place and stopped in partly because we were both craving soup and a sandwich. We were expecting a diner style interior and the first thing we saw was the large menu on a large chalkboard on the wall. It was great! A menu with with choices to suit a broad range of tastes - from veggie options to several grilled cheese options and even a PB and J! We opted for a turkey and Swiss, and a pastrami sandwich. I also grabbed a cup of chicken gnocchi soup. The soup was delish. Creamy and tasty, with plenty of gnocchi. Our sandwiches came to us piping hot and soooo tasty. I was driving through Montello at lunchtime and decided to see what this town had for restaurants. I walked into Oyster Crackers and it was packed! Luckily for me, there was one table left. I ordered the Muffaletta. It was made from scratch and delicious! The ladies that run this place know lots of the regulars by name. They made sure to greet us newcomers as if we were friends as well. Oyster Crackers is a cute breakfast and lunch place in downtown Montello. The restaurant focuses on fresh food. They do not have a deep fryer and everything is oven baked or heated on a panini press including the bacon. They have menus on the wall on chalkboards, homemade super and home made oyster crackers. I've had the buffalo chicken sandwich with a pickle spear and chips and also have a peanut butter and jelly. Both were fantastic! The restaurant only takes cash or check, but they do have an ATM available. Oyster Crackers is one of my favorites in Montello. Check it out if you're nearby! read more

Very cute soups and sandwiches joint. Came here for lunch on a Friday, because I was in town for work. Large selection of sandwiches, and 3 or 4 daily soups. I got the BBQ pulled pork sandwich. It came on a ciabatta bread bun, the bread was a little dense, but not bad. Pork was nicely sauced, juicy, but not terribly messy to eat. The crunchy onions were a nice touch. For soup I got the creamy tomato with basil, it was ok...nothing terribly special. They do have a nice selection of oyster crackers for your soup though! read more

The pickles are awesome. I've never said that in a restaurant before. Guess what? It only gets better from there. Drove by this place for years and never stopped. What a mistake that was. Hot Beef, Cuban and Chicken Cordon Blue sandwiches with chips and a pickle. All were between $8 and $9. Seriously. Many were eating the potato salad so I will need to try. Haven't had the soup yet but today a guy called the cook out and raved about how consistently awesome it was. Look at the 3 bowl sizes on the picture I posted. The large is $5. I am embarrassed that I don't know everyone's name because I want them all to be my best friends. The guy making the sandwiches is an artist. The love he puts into his craft is off the charts. We stopped to grab something to go on our way through town and this place was adorable. Their customer service was excellent. I got the honey chicken wrap which had an Asian flavor. They wrapped each side individually because they knew we were going to be eating on the road. They had gluten-free friendly options. They had a cute wall of giving that you could gift forward any dollar amount to a fire fighter or teacher etc. We will definitely stop again the next time We drive through Montello read more

Basically the menu hangs on the wall and you walk up to the counter to order. FUN. Your order is brought to your table without much delay. Soups and sandwiches are varied and very good. Finally, a place that serves up good coffee and conversation, with great prices. If you are looking for the regular burger and fries joint, this is not the place for you. They offer a different twist to normal cookie cutter places. They make their own food; it's not bought in tubs and just served up. I love the different selection and the owners are great.
