During my recent trip to Manila, I stayed at Savoy during the last part of my journey. My father…read morewas traveling from Bangar, La Union (a 5-hour drive to Manila), and as we had a flight back to Los Angeles, I opted to give this hotel a try due to its reasonable price and 4-star rating.
Upon arrival at 4pm, check-in was swift with excellent customer service. I was pleasantly surprised by being upgraded to a deluxe room, 6023, offering additional space and a window behind the TV. However, I did notice that the A/C vent was not very clean, which I didn't think would be an issue. It was also odd that the room seemed to be automatically on, with a key card already inserted?
Unfortunately, after visiting the extremely dirty 11th-floor smoking room only a handful of times I was there, I returned to the states and was diagnosed with bronchitis, making it a terrible experience. I recommend the hotel to pay more attention to cleaning their vents and improving ventilation in the tooms and smoking areas.
Despite these issues, the hotel had good amenities, with a nice gym (although it was uncomfortably hot on the second day) and a pool that was warmer later in the day. The pool menu was average; I should have probably chosen a burger over the Banh Mi I ordered. The sandwich needed a lot of improvement. The steam room and sauna worked once during my 3-night, 4-day stay. Real estate agents were persistent near the elevator, and I even had a couple of close calls getting stuck in it. The housekeeping staff was friendly, and Mark, who brought ice promptly every night upon request, deserved a tip (even small tips like 50-100php were appreciated). We added the breakfast buffet for $4 per person per day, which was worth it. However, there was a discrepancy in the breakfast charges, my cousins suprised me and booked a couple of rooms; I was told breakfast buffet would be 390php instead was charged 950php.
Despite my overall rating of 4 stars, the experience felt more like a 3.5 out of 5. I would still recommend this hotel, but guests should be vigilant about cleanliness issues. I regret not addressing the A/C vent problem and requesting a room change during my stay.
