Wine was a ok but overpriced. Low class service- when I went to pay $20 for the wine flights. The gal checked to see if the 20 was fake or not!!!!! haha so bad. Very disrespectful. My fiancée and I have done a fair amount of wine tasting in the past few years - mostly tasting rooms in the Walla Walla/Prosser/Yakima region of Washington State. Needless to say, when we saw the 'Oz Winery' along I-70, we leapt at the chance to visit. The storefront and staff on our visit yesterday were great - five stars all the way. The woman tending the store was extremely welcoming and friendly. The chocolates and cheeses available for purchase were a very nice touch - something that's actually not very common to find in tasting rooms out in our neck of the woods in the Pacific Northwest. The chocolates were decadent and really quite tasty. The wine was ok... the whites that we tried (Blue Gingham Dress and Emerald City Lights) were much, much too sweet. I was expecting the Blue Gingham, being a sauvignon blanc, to be drier. It was instead on par with a middle-of-the-road (neither dry nor sweet) Riesling. I think this may be regional taste preferences coming out, because we went to a wedding in the area, and the whites at the wedding were all universally sweet (a moscato was the white wine at the wedding; I've only ever seen that as a dessert wine here). The reds were better. The OEO and Drunken Munchkin were both good. I'd have bought a bottle of the Munchkin to take back with us, but we weren't checking any luggage, and adding the $15 price tag to ship the wine just didn't make sense... it wasn't $40 per bottle quality. One suggestion to the staff - properly aerate the samples. The plastic shot glass tasters don't allow guests to swirl and I felt like letting either of those reds breathe could have improved the flavor. Ditch the shot glasses, give each guest an Oz Winery glass, and re-use the glass with each sample. Wash, rinse, and repeat - it's probably cheaper than using the disposable shot glasses anyway! I will end the review by saying that wine is definitely a matter of personal taste - there are plenty of tasting rooms we've visited that got poor reviews that we liked, and many that got good reviews that we didn't like. Oz Winery's selections definitely cater towards the sweeter crowd with aversions to tannins... if that is your style, you'll find a lot to like here. I would imagine it'd take a lot of effort to open up a winery in Kansas and the owners seem to put wine over the whole 'Oz' theme, so I will give them a 4. read more

I read the reviews, and I have to question some of the comparisons, this is Kansas Wine, not California Wine. Considering that it was good. The best part is that they stick with the Wizard of Oz theme that Wamego has embraced. I enjoy stopping in, and will buy a bottle while I am there. After reading the other reviews about women being ignored and the husbands being flirted with, I made sure to take my husband in with me in hopes of getting prompt service. Too bad that it didn't really make a difference. There was one person working and only one other customer in the store picking out bottles of wine. We had hoped to try some wines but we're never acknowledged the entire time we wandered around the gift store part of the winery OR during the time we stood at the counter in the tasting section while reading the list of wines (and keep in mind that the employee was standing in the exact same area). We found the lack of service to be unacceptable, especially given the fact that there was only one other customer in the entire store. We left without purchasing anything at all and will never waste the time to go back. Epic disappointment from a service standpoint. read more

Being from California, we have some of the best wines around. We wine taste often too and always have to try places whenver we are away. We tried this place during our visit to the Oz museum, and I really liked their wines. Much sweeter than alot of our California wines. I guess you have to have a taste for sweet wines. Some were not as sweet, but they were all very good. They have t-shirts, and other things for purchase as well as chocolates, chesses. Defitely try it out when you are visiting. This was more of a wine bar than a winery. The town is small but cute. The winery has a great vibe and is very clean and modern. Seating was rather limited but Sunday afternoon wasn't busy at all so it wasn't a problem for us! The bar tender didn't tell me anything about the wine she was pouring so I felt like I missed out on that part of wine tasting. It was more like buying a flight of beer and working through the tastes on your own. Presentation of the wine was good, but wish I had a description of the wines and some history or info about the "winery" itself. I was disappointed that the only thing that was Oz themed were the wine names. I was not impressed with the wines themselves either, they were too fruity and florally for my taste; perhaps id they had walked me through the wines I would have been able to choose wines I liked more, but who knows. Good place to stop before the museum. Definitely glad I made the trip, but wouldn't make a second trip out there or necessarily recommend the wine. read more

My in-laws were in town and we all love wine so we decided to visit the Oz winery. The place is really nice with very friendly staff. However the wine was not what I was expecting. It just didn't have the taste of good wine. Being from the central coast of California, I expecting the same quality. Nevertheless it was fun looking around. read more

I have visited several times with my mom and my aunts, every occasion has been a great one! They offer a large variety of different wines: reds, whites, blushes, desserts etc. It does vary based on the time of year, they make everything on site so they kind of rotate when they start different batches. Their tastings are reasonably priced, 3 for $8 or 5 for $12. These are 2 oz samples though, which can add up fast! We have a few favorites now and will just buy by the bottle and share. The offer private parties you can schedule a few weeks in advance, and you can try an assortment of their wines paired with different foods, cheeses and chocolates. I highly recommend this if you are in the area or will be spending some time near! Every employee we've been helped by has been wonderful. They do their best at trying to find what you may like best wine wise, and have a good knowledge of the product. It can get pretty busy on the weekends, and it's impressive to see how they juggle everything! (I'm always glad I have wine in my hand instead haha) read more

We've been living in Kansas for a year now and we go to the Oz Winery about every other month. They have always been super friendly and help you decide on a choice of wine. They have a ton of diffrent types of wine and they are always creating new and exciting ones. Around the holidays they offer private wine tasting parties for groups of people They also carry sweets, cheeses, and jams I bring all of our guests here or when we go home I always stop by first so I can take some goodies home with us to share. read more

Cute place, but the wine is really not very good at all. We tried Click, Yellow Brick Road, The Lion's Courage, Professor Marvel's Ruby Red, Squished Witch (Witch in a Ditch), Fraidy Cat, Fredonia, and several others. All rated between two and three out of five stars. The winery claims to be award-winning, but the only awards they've won were at the Kansas State Fair a few years ago. The wines that won the awards were Yellow Brick Road, Professor Marvel's Ruby Red, and Witch in a Ditch. None of these were anything to brag about when we tried them. We left without making any purchases. If you want good wine, try somewhere else. If you want cute labels and funny plays on Oz-themed words, go to the Oz Winery. read more

Very disappointed. Went into winery on a Sunday and staff did not acknowledge our group for 15 minutes. We eventually left without being helped. We walked around the cute town for about an hr and returned with the same result, being completely ignored. It was not busy and we called before driving all the way there. If you have to traverse the entire state of Kansas, one needs a break and a bit of humor to accomplish the task. Beecher Bible & Rifle Church and Oz Winery provides an unexpected degree of smiles with some interesting history and local wines. Let me compliment Oz's Oil Can Norton wine as a really nice table wine. The taste you get at home is different from the sippy cup swigs encountered at the store front winery. After letting the 'Oil Can' breathe for over 30 minutes, you are presented with a most representative example of the Norton grape. This was great with a thin crust pizza yesterday. The regret is that we only purchased three Oil Cans while traveling from the west-to-east coast. read more

Okay to be upfront and honest - I don't drink but I have friends that do. Finding OZ winery was fun. Love the labels and the themed names. However, my review could end there but got a couple of bottles for friends and they are quite happy with the wines and want more info so I sent them links to the website. I had a friend go in to try them at the winery. Her only disappointment was that some of them were not ready yet to try. So I have to give them a fan rating of 4 stars. I will be ordering a couple of their later vintings of red as they sound promising for the friends who did not get a bottle from the trip. read more
