Noticed that past reviews were either amazing or terrible. The terrible reviews seemed to be centred mainly around service. We stopped by for lunch and fortunately had a decent experience. Because it was lunch we were seated right away. You order via a tablet on the table and menu consists of all the expected ie. GamJaTang, bibimbaps, stews and rice dishes. Portions were generous and flavours were okay. The GamJaTang was not spicy at all despite being rated 2.5 chilis on the menu. We got 4 side dishes and were asked if we wanted a refill which was nice. Interior is nice. Lots of booths on one side and long family style wooden tables at the back. Good for large groups for drinking. 2 TV's were playing K-Pop on the wall. I can see this being a popular place for the Western crowd. Good selection of soju's. Wasn't terrible. We would definitely consider another visit when back in the area. read more

This restaurant is 1/2 of my all-time favourite restaurants in London, Ontario. Not only is the staff very nice and quick, the food is divine!! I go here every time one of my friends wants to grab a bite. I order the same thing every time: usually the JaJangMyun, LA KalBi on Hot Plate, and Spicy pork in Hot Plate. They also give you a bunch of free side dishes with your meal. The best Asian food spot there is. I've also taken out their food many times. Tastes the same, I find the portions slightly smaller when you take out vs. Eating there. JajangMyun - 5/5. I have yet to taste another black bean noodle that tastes this good. The portion is also massive so I usually save some for leftovers the next day ! Kalbi- to die for. They're not super fatty so you get a lot of meat with it. Fair portion, great to pair with noodles or white rice. Great for sharing too. Pork - HUGE!!! You could feed 3 people alone with that one dish and maybe have some leftovers. I'm not a big spice person but I will suck it up for this dish. Reasonable price too. Can ask to reduce spice I think Spicy rice cake - I'm pretty sure you can also ask to reduce the spice. Very yummy and chewy! Place is always live and busy but will always have a table for you. the food was a mix of good and ok. tteokbokki and the hot plate chicken were excellent. the tteok was so chewy and melts in your mouth and the chicken is so tender. the panchan was weak. speaking of panchan, the kimchi was horrible. the kimchi jiigae flavour was whatever. the ambience felt authentic enough and the food came out incredibly fast, they were definitely efficient. service was alright, they don't say anything to you as there is a tablet where you order from. when they drop off the food it really is just a quick drop off and leave without saying a word. my biggest complaint: there was an overwhelming amount of fruit flies, which made the experience so unpleasant. every minute i had to swat a fly away, it was digusting. i even caught a bug getting caught in the panchan, i will insert it on this review. in my opinion: not worth coming back to even though some dishes were nice. maybe for takeout. read more

After hearing that lots of students like to come to Ozen Korea to grab food, we decided to come one day after class. There are very minimal vegetarian options so I got the tofu bibimbap. It was good, on par with all the bibimbap's I've ever gotten from other restaurants. They give the gochujang (red chilli paste) on the side, and it was a perfect amount of sauce for the bibimbap. The dish tasted just like the one offered at the other Ozen on Richmond. However, Ozen Korea comes with side dishes while the location on Richmond doesn't. The pickled cucumber side dish was good and tasted really fresh! We came on a Thursday night, so it wasn't that busy. One thing to note is that you need to press the button at your table to grab the waiter/waitress, or else they will just assume you are not ready to order! Verdict: would come again in a group setting, but probably wouldn't personally choose to come here, as the vegetarian options are pretty limited. read more

Standard Korean food fare that is comparable to most other Korean restaurants I've eaten at. I often get the tofu seafood stew, which was tasty as expected here. My friends got the zhajiang noodles and pork bone stew, and they both enjoyed their dishes. The noodles in particular was a huge serving, perfect for leftovers or a larger meal. This is from the knowledge, the only korean place that serves you the ring of cheese and boy oh boy is it well worth it. You need to bring a buddy, you appetite, and maybe take an uber cause the soju selection here is stuff you can't find at LCBO (annoyingly) My second visit here, first time having the ring of cheese, we got the pork and octopus and when it came to our table, angels sang. The spiciness is pretty tame (with that said I have a pretty high threshold for spice) and the cheese will eliminate any burning sensation you may feel. We paired this with the grapefruit soju (which is my fave) and i was transported back to my hometown (ktown, not Korea) The buzzer on the side calls for your server which I wish was implemented everywhere. My absolute favourite Korean restaurant in London. Their hospitality and care towards their customers is impeccable. Their food is delicious as well! I highly recommend their pork bone soup (large portion size for the price of $10), spicy beef noodle soup, and their rice cakes with cheese. Unlike many other Korean restaurants I've been to in the past, they're not shy when you ask for extra appetizers (huge brownie points for me because I love their kimchi). Every time my friends from Toronto visit me in London, the first place they want to go is Ozen. Why so many positive reviews? I don't like this particular Korean restaurant. In fact, I think this is the worst one in London. Their food does not taste as authentic compared to other places like the Korean Restaurant. Some of it was flavourless and tasted very dry. (Seafood pancake, I'm looking at you). Also, the Tangsuyuk I had was not crispy at all. I felt like I was tasting more sauce than Tangsuyuk and that is NOT how it is supposed to be made. I also find their prices are absurdly high for the poor quality of food that is offered here. Sure the interior is nice and all that, and the service is decent (the restaurant is Korean style of course, meaning to call your server you just simply press a button and your table's number will flash up on a screen), but this restaurant just isn't one to go to when looking for Korean food in London. I think I'm good with sticking to Gozen off Hyde Park/Oxford, the Korean Restaurant, or even nearby Kimchi House. read more

The one dish that attracted me to Ozen Korea was the fried pork with melted cheese ring. It was absolutely delicious! The meat marinade was tasty, I loved the texture of the rice cakes and the cheese, OH THE CHEESE!! Perfect salty flavour to the sweet marinade. However, my one big complaint is the lack of meat. There was 10x more onion than rice cakes, pork and potato slices. I shared among 4 people and had 3 bites of meat so I would rather share this among 2 people. Or I advise getting a meat dish on the side to have a more well rounded meal. Next, I ordered the Jap Chae (glass noodles) with vegetables. Wow!! The noodles tasted outstanding. Jelly, sweet, and high quality. I think $7 for this dish was fair, I will definitely order it again. The cheese ring pork dish was $35. This is probably my favourite Korean restuarant in London, Ontario. It is located a bit far from Western University but has a dessert and bubbletea place nearby which makes it a great date place. I went today with a group of 6 at 6 pm and was able to be seated right away. The food came out in a resonable amount of time and we were quite satisfied with our food. They have a variety of authentic Korea and I will be returning when I am craving some Korean food. The server greeted us right away and made sure to check up on us to make sure the food was all right. The noise level isn't very light which makes it prime for having conversations over a light meal. The reason why I didn't give it a 5 star is because some days the service isn't as good and it takes a long time to get food. Overall, good authentic food and service :) read more

Really impressed by this place! My first taste of Asian cuisine outside of my hometown, and it blew my expectations. Our party went around 8:30pm on a Friday night. We were seated quickly (did not have to wait), and promptly given menus. I ordered the Spicy Rice Cake ($9.99) to share with a friend, and Spicy Beef Noodle ($14.99). The portion sizes were extremely large for their pricing (at least, from what I'm used to at home), and the flavours were bold and especially spicy! I really enjoyed both menu items that came with my meal. What was even more impressive was the service. Our food came very quickly, within 10 minutes of placing the order. Every time we pressed the call button for assistance, we were answered promptly. I appreciate the waiters' effort into forging a pleasurable dining experience for its customers. Over the past year, this place has changed for the worse. This used to be a go-to spot for me and my friends when we were craving Korean! The food was good, the service was fast and friendly, and relatively recently (sometime last year), they opened up late night service (til 2AM on Fridays and Saturdays) making it a great location for late night eats. Unfortunately, the last 3 visits we've had, spread over 3 months have been very disappointing. Their spicy food now tastes bland with spice being the only and overwhelming flavor, their hot pot and meat plates are still decent. The two most disappoint parts of my visit would have to be the kanpoongi and the jajangmyeon. The kanpoongi always seems to be a "30 minute wait time", as has been told to me and friends on separate occasions. The jajangmyeon has taken on a strange tomato based sauce that is more similar to a can of lukewarm alphagetti than to something that should be served in a restaurant. To the restaurants credit, the service is fast (although sometimes rude) and the atmosphere is super chill. They also have a pretty wide variety of imported soju, so that's a plus! Overall, despite being fans since first year, I think we will be giving Ozen a break especially with all the other Korean food options nearby. read more

A pair of chopsticks triggered a horrible incident： I had to call 911 because of a pair of chopsticks. I've ordered from this store over 20 times, but what happened last night horrified me. I ordered some food from uber last night. But when I received it, I found that they didn't give me chopsticks. Since I was in a public place, there was no way to find the utensils and I was particularly tired and hungry at that time so I felt unhappy. I decided to call the restaurant to get an apology and to remind them to be aware of such things. A guy answered the phone and I told him in a calm tone that I hadn't received the chopsticks. He replied in a very mean, aggressive and rude tone. And asked: What do you want? Send you the chopsticks? I was shocked, I never wanted them to send me chopsticks. Only a crazy person like that man should think like that and think that everyone thinks the same way as him. So, I said something unfriendly and hung up the phone. The guy called me right back and said something like, "I have your name, address and phone number. Don't you dare say what you just said again in front of me. It was the first time in Canada that I received such a threat. So, I immediately contacted the police. The police came to my house today to understand the situation and promised he would try to contact the restaurant. I don't know if the man is Korean or not. If he is Korean, then he has brought shame to Korean culture. As far as I know Korea is a country that takes manners very seriously, maybe his parents forgot to teach him. If you don't know what manners are and what customer service is, maybe you shouldn't work in the service industry. I can't imagine what would have happened if I had upset them in the store. Someone so rude and aggressive would probably throw boiling hot soup in my face. If you don't want to be at risk of being stalked, verbally violent, taunted and threatened, avoiding this restaurant is the best option. read more

A friend and I decided to celebrate the end of exam-season by going out to Ozen Korea for dinner. It was our first time coming here, and we had high expectations after hearing wonderful things online. We both ordered the seafood noodle soup, and I would score that 3/5. The portion was large, there were lots of noodles, but it lacked actual seafood and the broth is 100% made from powder. Pros: - Portions are large - Prices are decent - Food comes out in reasonable time - Large and diverse menu - Washrooms are clean - Comfy booths Cons: - Loud music (I couldn't hear my friend sitting across from me) - Wait-staff are disorganized (you have to press the "call" button in order for someone to check on you, otherwise, no one checks on you) - Wait-staff aren't particularly nice... when I was paying, a waitstaff (middle-aged lady) reminded me to leave a tip as if I wasn't gonna leave one Overall, both my friend and I enjoyed our time at Ozen Korea. Updated due to my recent experience at Ozen, which seems like quality has dropped a tad since my last visits. Prices have also gone up (most dishes start at around $15), pushing the boundary of reasonable prices, especially for students. I always ordered the bulgogi on hot plate because it was a huge portion, but will refrain from that in the future. Hoping it was a one off because the dish was excessively salty to the point where I couldn't finish it and had to water it down. Will return in the future to order some other dishes since I've had positive experiences most times, but hoping this isn't a trend. On a side note, tried the spicy pork on rice which my friends ordered and that was pretty good. Service is still alright and attentive through the use of the call button. read more

Very tempted to give this place two-stars, but the portion sizes + the taste of the food + the attitude of the younger workers make up for it. Prices are your regular $12-15 range for Korean food out here, so no complaints there. The portions you recieve are hearty, especially if you're a small person like me who doesn't eat much. Be prepared to stuff yourself to the point of feeling sick if you don't want to take home your food. The huge downside to this place is the service. They have installed the call-buttons that make a sound and show the number of your table whenever you press it, but even though they have such a convenient system installed, you gotta press it minimum twice before they get over to your table. It's not just once, but three times that this happened (on three separate days). Not sure why. At least you know if you keep on pressing it, they're bound to come over because it'll keep making a sound? better than only having the "raise your hand" system, I suppose. Also, if you walk in and see a short old woman with glasses working: I'd suggest you pretend you don't like anything on the menu and just leave. She has the largest attitude possible (I was served by her on two separate days and she always was snappy to no end) and does not understand customer service. She gave us a to-go box that was dirty, and when we asked for a clean one, she looked at it, looked at us, and was silent for a few seconds before she said (in a very forced tone that was borderline sarcastic) "Oh I'm sorry, I will get you a *new* one". Continuing from before: the lady also tries to do mental math at your table if you're splitting the bill, and gets frustrated at you if you show a discount card/coupon/etc once it's time to pay (because that means she has to *mentally* recalculate your total). She would've spent half the time she did standing at our table trying to do math if she had gone back to the till to use a calculator/the computer to find the totals. I also don't think I've ever seen the lady smile. Each time she served us, it turned us off because she made the mood sour. I've worked as a waitress for a long while, and when customers are being rough, it is basic to clench your teeth, smile, and remain docile until the customer turns rude (which I can swear my food life to everyone reading this that I was never rude to that lady). Oh, and I forgot to mention, but if you don't tip generously enough she'll give you a stink eye. Anyways, the younger waiters are always very nice and they do their best even during rush hour. There was also one time where a waiter saw the old lady doing her classic mental math and he took over the situation, apologized for the long wait, and went straight to the cashier. Being served by the younger part-timers makes me realize that there is actually hope in people. read more

It's sad...this used to be my absolute favourite restaurant. I don't know if it's under new ownership or what, but so much has changed. My boyfriend and I have visited Ozen countless times (and by countless, I mean we sometimes would go up to three times a week!!) This place was by far our most-frequented restaurant. Heck, it was our most-frequented place outside of home, period. However, on our last (and final) visit, it seemed as if we stepped into an entirely new restaurant. Where do I start? For one, the banchan (side dishes) were a mess. Our favourite, gamja jorim, went from being a warm sweet and salty potato side dish, to cold undercooked potato smothered in corn syrup. The water pitcher, which is usually lemon water, had the smallest sliver of a lemon I've ever seen for the ENTIRE pitcher. As in, one sliver of half a slice of lemon. Yeah, because THAT'S going to add flavour. But the most infuriating part, the reason I will never give my business to Ozen ever again, is their sudden decision to say "no" to any request to not add meat to the dishes I used to enjoy at every visit. You see, whenever I would eat at Ozen, I would order kimchi jiggae (spicy stew with kimchi, tofu, glass noodles and veggies) without the meat. And, every single time before this visit, there was no issue. They were ALWAYS able to make it without adding meat. In fact, our waiter knew my order off by heart. It was like second nature. On occasion, I would order soon dubu jiggae (soft tofu stew) without the meat. Once again, this could be done with no issues. But this time, it was different. We ordered our food. As usual, I opted for kimchi jiggae without meat. My boyfriend also ordered his food, confident that I would be able to order mine with no problem. The server, who seemed unsure of my request, informed us she would need to ask the kitchen if this were a possibility. Since she looked new (I had never seen her on any of my previous visits) I understood that she has probably never had this request. So, after a few minutes, she came out and informed us that it was impossible to prepare the kimchi jiggae without the meat. Confused, I asked if it were possible to order soon dubu jiggae without the meat. Same thing happened. Not a possibility. Because the only vegetarian item on the menu is bibimbap, which I personally am not too keen on, my boyfriend asked if we could cancel his food because we were going to go somewhere with more options. We were declined our request, as my boyfriend's food was on the way out. Without wanting to cause a scene (and because I was starving) I ordered bibimbap and we ate. Services was nice, they were really patient in every time we asked them to refill the side dishes. BUT, I don't like the foods there, I ordered kimchi jigeggae and it's tasted doesn't like any other Korean restaurant that I tried b4, which is very sweet and taste like cooking wine. And I also tried fried pork with rice, hmmm its tasted like a STONE. Personally, I don't like main dish with very strong sweet favour, so I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
