A really good Chinese restaurant on the West side of London Ontario, with a mix of dinner dishes, noodles, and rice and congee. The fish with 1000-year-old egg congee was top notch; the fish was gently cooked, and the amt. of preserved egg was appropriate. The congee base was strong and appropriately thick without it being stiff. The corn and taro congee had a bit less flavor. The pea pod leaf vegetable was nicely stir-fried and retained a lot of heat. My reservation is usually that the veggie becomes too oily, but this time it seemed okay. The stir-fried beef with button mushrooms was top notch; the beef was tender, and the button mushrooms provided textural contrast to the beef. The beef tendon was also really soft, in a really nice way. The shrimp with egg rice noodle is always a classic, egg gently used as a sauce and the noodle with an appropriate bite to it. The place closes down (i.e. the patrons have to leave by 9p) at 9p, which makes for a bit of a rushed dinner, so beware. read more

Food was good but service was poor. Their menu was expansive. They have a chef recommendation page. However multiple items listed were not available and the price shown was often lower than the actual price. This is misleading to customers. In terms of service the staff were rude and short. They obviously wanted me to order as fast as possible and leave. I ended up with the chow fen And I added extra beef for about 9 CAD. Pleasantly the portion was much larger than I thought and they definitely added extra beef. It is an oily and noodle and beefy dish with good flavor. Stopped in at Congee Chan for an early supper. What a delightful place with excellent service and old school charm. Complementary tea was provided while I reviewed the menu. So much to choose from. I decided to order the braised pork belly and the beef and Chinese greens. The pork belly was served in a sizzling iron dish which was quite a treat. Somewhat expensive but well worth the price in my opinion. I will have to make a point to visit again when in the area to try more of their menu. read more

Located in London, Ontario this place comes up with some very positive reviews and with a name like Congee Chan you think it must be an offshoot of the Congee Wongs or Queens. Unfortunately the experience was less than....the quality of the food was a little worse than 'meh'. What was ordered: Sliced fish and beef congee Chicken and pineapple fried rice Braised tofu and vegetables The pineapple bits in the fried rice were almost non existent and when you did find a piece it tasted 'off'. It was also an odd color with the rice slightly undercooked. The congee was way too thick with some less than tender slices of beef and only a few pieces of fish. Only the vegetable dish (tofu and vegetables) was okay. There are alot of options on the menu so maybe some items are better than others? Service was okay. Came here with my family on a Sunday for lunch and it was decently busy, didn't impact how long we had to wait - we got seated immediately. The server we had was quick to give us some tea and get our orders in which is well appreciated. The atmosphere was quaint and clean, not too loud which was nice. I usually order from here on UberEats but it was nice to come in the restaurant and sit down. We ordered the house congee, seafood pineapple fried rice, fried noodle with XO sauce, and lo mein. All the food came out very quickly and piping hot. The portions for each dish was humongous, we had lots of leftovers. The congee is a staple here; the texture is very good and the seafood inside is well cooked. The XO noodles were not spicy as I anticipated since the menu said it was but it was good nonetheless. The fried rice was decent, there were no pineapple pieces in the rice so I'm a little confused where the pineapple comes in but regardless, it was a classic fried rice. After reading all the great (and likely fake) reviews of this place we decided to give it a try. We ordered the dinner for two and the Cantonese style lo mein. I wanted so much to find a new Chinese restaurant to call home in London, but sadly, this place was broadly disappointing. The people working were all very kind and friendly, and the place had a campy charm to the decor. I'm a sucker for artificial cherry blossoms. :) The spring rolls were mid, at best. Which is fine, I'm not very picky. But the rest. I was more disappointed than I ever have been picking up takeout. Ever. I effectively threw 87 dollars out the window, and had to go out and get pizza because our order was inedible. Lack of distinct flavour (the most prominent one was cardboard) many many texture issues, and the seasoning was inexplicably poor. I didn't think fried rice could be this bad. My 16 yo son does it better. Once again, the two of us are not picky, which is what makes this so much worse. I feel literally gutted at how expensive it was and how terrible the food was. Just. Congee Chan used to be the go to spot when I went to western for rice and dishes, with great congee and side dishes as well. Now however, even their basic congees like preserved duck egg and pork are $15 and there's literally 2 pieces of duck egg. For a place that calls itself congee chan, the congee is a bloody disaster. Long wait despite calling ahead. Did not feel attended to by staff despite the wait. Felt like they didn't care much about enforcing a head count inside, as there were many people waiting. The food itself was good... adjacent. It was not overly greasy like at some places which was great! However they made mistakes with our order, sending us home with a completely incorrect dish. They even told us they could not remake what we actually ordered, so we just had to deal with it. The flavour was good, though not super flavourful. Standard, well priced Chinese food with large quantities and a good variety. Tonight we tried the crab fried rice, seafood chow mein, eggplant in fish sauce, fried turnips, and seafood tofu. All were just as expected and a generous portion, as we filled up several take out containers after we finished eating. Service was quite slow tonight, but they mentioned being understaffed for the Monday night. I'm a visitor to London but heard that this is one of the better options in the area for Chinese food. Congee Chan was an unexpected surprise when I came to Western to visit a friend. Let's just say I was prepared (although unwilling) to be eating a burger for dinner that day. Congee Chan was thankfully referred and I had a [spoiler] great dinner. The restaurant was relatively empty at 5PM in Tuesday but gradually filled up as we ate. My boyfriend got the Singapore noodles with chicken instead of pork. The portions were MASSIVE. I loved how much protein the lot into the dish. Definitely a must try if you're into fried noodles. I got the beef brisket lo mein. I didn't see it on the menu but they said it was do-able. Great portions again with noodles and brisket. They even gave me a big container of hoisin sauce ((when places in Toronto skimp you and charge you more )). Overall this is the go to restaurant for all future Waterloo visits! read more

First try was a miss. I notified them of the allergens, but one of the dishes came contaminated. Asked them to package food only, but the order came with single-use utensils, napkins, etc. Prices are higher for the same dish than at other places in London such as $14 for house fried rice, $17 for seafood chow mein and $15 for black bean chicken. The quality is comparable to Little Panda. Perhaps the draw here is that you can dine in whereas you can't at Little Panda. Second try was because they gave me a credit for the dish that had allergens in it. I explained, twice, what couldn't be in the dish. They repeated it back to me. When I opened the food, the SAME (replacement) dish had allergens in it. I. Just. Can't. The rest of the food was okay. Obviously, both attempts were a miss for us. A great Chinese restaurant located in West London near Angelo's. The food is always of high quality, is made pretty quickly and the service is very good. Certainly much better than the nearby London Chinese Restaurant. The interior is also beautiful and clean. Their young chow fried rice is always so delicious. While it is not on the same level as what you'd find in Toronto, it's still very good. I do, however, find that their congee has a bit too much water in it. While it is still tasty, it is still something to be noted. The prices are also a bit on the steep side however with inflation, that's to be expected. Still, I think their prices could be somewhat lower. I'll order from here again in the future, but it'd be nice to see lower prices so I can eat here more often! read more

We finally got a hold of a waitress and ordered---spring rolls ( they had no egg rolls ) which were tasteless and greasy. We ordered orange chicken which was mostly onions---the chicken pieces were mostly breading with the smaller pieces being only breading. There was no taste (no hint of orange except for the small pieces of orange interspersed among the chicken), We also ordered tai dop voy which took 30 minutes after the chicken was served and we had to ask twice for it. They forgot the rice we ordered completely. The tai dop voy was tasteless and had NO SHRIMP ( which was suppose to be the main ingredient), but had small bits of seafood, pork and LOTS of broccoli. The waitress looked down upon us while we were trying to order lobster dishes. Such terrible manners when she didnt bother to help guide us. we order hot congee and they didn't bring us any spoon, and whats worse is that when we asked for spoons, they brought us plastic disposable spoons to eat hot congee - its so inconsiderate and unthinkable. I have never seen such terrible service. We had 8 people and they brought us only 7 cups, and we asked for another cup but that never came. I always order the yang chow fried rice and fried rice noodle with sliced beef in soya sauce. The portions are awesome and the price is fair. The decor is beautiful and the restaurant itself is very clean. The only downside is that the service isn't that great. I asked for chilli sauce and the awesome server brought some chilli oil and chilli paste. Mixing them together makes it amazing! But I'll be warning everyone that chilli paste is spicy! An awesome. Congee Chan reminds me of congee queen in toronto. Except congee Chan's dishes are on the saltier side, and it's a bit more expensive and less in quantity. I have ordered from here a handful of times, at least: spicy minced pork with fried green bean (ground pork) - $14.89, it's on the oily side and they don't cut the ends of the green bean and some beans that shouldn't be included sometimes is mixed in. They just throw it into the dish as they cook it I guess. They don't really take the time to pick good ingredients. I've ordered peppe & spicy calamari ($16.04), which are always underdone and too slimy still, it's super expensive, and it's on the super fishy side. I've had better. I've ordered the squid tentacles ($11.33), which are absurdly overpriced for an "appetizer" size. It's way too salty. I've had better. I've ordered yeung chow fried rice ($13.79), which always have still frozen vegetables whenever I get it. They've had a few occasions where they forget an ingredient in the dish like pork. And you have to remind them every single time or they'll purposely not include all the ingredients that they state for that dish. I've ordered Cantonese chow mein ($17.19), and it is not worth the price! While it's nice they separate the sauce when delivered, the noodles are always overly done, and the ingredients has excessive amount of onions to replace other vegetables that should be in the dish. Deep fried chicken wings are always super oily, too much batter, and for medium size 6/7 pcs it's $16.50 already! It's super expensive! Even in toronto for that size at congee queen it's around $9-$12. All their fried rice dishes are never less than $16 which is absurd. Their noodles aren't that great maybe it's because it's not eaten at the restaurant and they pack it differently. We've only ever eaten there 1-2 times before covid. I still order from here though even though my order is never less than $70 as a few dishes from them alone is already super costly. But they're one of the best Chinese restaurant in london so far. read more

Went here with the family today and it was great. Food is set up in platters to enjoy as a group. There were 6 of us and we spent about 100 dollars and still took home lots of food still. Husband and I came here to celebrate his new job and boy did we leave happy! We ordered the taiwanese style lobster, yang chow fried rice, chinese broccoli, salt and pepper squid and spicy fried pork chop. We ended our meal with the redbean pancake with red bean ice cream... Yummmmmmy!!!! It was ALL excellent!!! The food, although mostly deep fried was not as greasy as you would expect in most chinese restos. I didn't leave feeling sleepy lol which is always good. The portion sizes are great and price was below average... At least i think. For everything we ordered our bill came out to just under 100.00 with 2 days worth of leftovers...
