We had a hankering for sushi while we were in town and this place got the best reviews. Called an order in and we were surprised the wait time was almost an hour for them to make our food. No problem, we'd rather have it fresh than sitting around. Miso soup was good but a bit on the small side. We enjoyed the veggie gyoza as they were fried to a crisp. I ordered the avocado cucumber roll, Futo Maki roll, and yam tempura dragon roll. The BF ordered the tuna roll, salmon avocado, and French Kiss roll. We both noticed they were wrapped extremely loose and we had difficulty picking up each piece with chopsticks without them falling apart. Flavor-wise we found them all a bit bland, even the speciality rolls- which was really a shame because the cheapest roll was $9. Our total was $100 with tip which we found to be on the expensive side for the quantities received. Next time we're in town we'd try elsewhere or just not order sushi until we're back home. read more

If I could give this restaurant a zero I would have. Never have I walked away from a restaurant feeling so disappointed. We ordered 3 spicy rolls which came to the table the smallest rolls I have ever seen which were literally doused in spicy sauce. When I complained I was told "oh well that's how we make it and there's nothing we will do about it. The miso soup was luke warm and extremely salty. Even the beef udon soup was flavourless. The only thing which was good was the edamame. The restaurant itself had no ambiance or warmth. Pearl Sushi - Tiniest rolls drenched in spicy sauce. Just horrible!! - Japanese Near Me - Stratford, Ontario

I've been here a number of imes, a local favourite for us. Everything tastes fresh and the service is excellent. Even the sushi chef (owner?) says hello and goodbye when he can. Last time we were in the server dropped off a complimentary plate of edamames for my wife because I was taking so long to finish (due to my never ending ramblings) which was a nice touch. I was only there once to be a little adventurous and try something new. Now it was some time ago that I was there, but from what I can remember is that the atmosphere was good, the restaurant seemed very clean and well kept and prices I guess were fair. I am not a big fan of sushi after having tried their California roll, but if you love sushi then you really need to check this place out. I think for the newbies such as myself they should offer a sampler plate for a set price so that you could really decide for yourself if sushi's for you. So that's it in a nutshell. A quiet, cute little sushi place in Stratford. I prefer it over most of the kw local sushi, and we drive to stratford sometimes for this treat. Their sashimi is generally excellent, and I'm also a fan of their Philadelphia and dragon maki rolls. Their edamame () is extremely addictive! My fourth yelp review of the night =) I was incredibly surprised by how pleasant the restaurant was for me. I had tried all over London for sushi and they all in various ways were disappointing. Here, in this dinky small town, nearly all the restaurants seem...nicer! I can't explain it. The rolls had funny names. I had the Mary Poppins Set and hubby had teriyaki (he doesn't like sushi). Here's the amazing part. We got to sample a roll that's going to be included in the menu by the end of the year. It had sausages and bacon and other things inside. The waiter told us it would be tailor-made for people who weren't fond of sushi. Hubby tried it and actually liked it. Tries hard to be a serious sushi restaurant and also a fine-dining Japanese place with a wide range of styles and options (Udon, Teriyaki, Tempura, ...). The result is attentive service, but slow, well-prepared main dishes, but not stellar. The prices seem a bit high to me here for the quality, but I would still recommend it for those who like Japanese food and aren't as stingy as I. Just a few doors down from the Avon Theatre. If you are planning a pre-show meal, show up early and try to choose quickly. Once the crowd arrives it can get pretty slow. read more

The maki rolls are varied (heavy on the cream cheese) the lunchtime maki set is super small, Spicy Salmon roll is SUPER spicy, beware of the heat and the dynamite rolls use cold shrimp -- deep fried shrimp that's been sitting for a long while makes an underwhelming roll. Absolutely delicious sushi, with a really wide range of options on the menu. Fish could not have been fresher and service could not have been better! Definitely up there with some of the best sushi I've tried. It's easy to miss this place in favour of some of Stratford's classier-looking joints, as this restaurant just looks like a take-out dive from outside, but it is well, well worth a visit. ps: Decent range of non-sushi items too. read more

Have been here a number of times for take-out and eat-in. Every time is delicious ! I've had the gyoza, assorted tempura and a bunch of different rolls. Service is very friendly and attentive. When you are getting take-out, it's usually ready in 15 minutes. read more

Good place with good food and good service. They bring you hot tea immediately. This is fantastic, especially because it is freezing outside. Then After you order they bring miso soup and a salad. Both delicious. They have a nice variety of food even if you don't want raw fish. Lots of hot meals as well. We had the yakitori appetizer which was one if the best I have ever had. Big pieces of chicken with a nice marinade. Then we had the sashimi platter of assorted fish. The fish was very fresh and flavorful. The service was great and personable. Went to Pearl Sushi for dinner tonight. We were the only people in the restaurant on a Saturday evening at dinner time. We sat there for 10 minutes without being served or even greeted. They have a self serve pop and water machine (so I thought since it's in the middle of the restaurant and the previous owners use to tell us to help ourselves to a beverage), so I went to grab a beverage since no one came and took our drink order, and when I did so, the owner started screaming at me that I wasn't allowed to do that and to go sit down. I asked him why he was yelling about a beverage when all he needed to do was add it to my order. I was so upset about the whole situation that we left even before having the chance to order any food. He then started yelling "get out of my restaurant and never come back" as though my husband and I were criminals or something... all of this over a pop. We use to go to Pearl every week when the previous owners had the restaurant and always felt so welcome. It is sad to see that the new owner is ruining everything William worked hard to build. read more

We went to Pearl Sushi because we had heard that it was the best sushi place in Stratford. But overall, we were a little disappointed. We ordered a 40 piece boat, which in most places comes with a variety of sushi. But this boat was not very varied, there were four cooked shrimp, eight salmon, two octopus, and two each of two kinds of fish. Plus California, sweet potato and spicy salmon rolls. So too much salmon, and not enough variety. The ambience is casual, there were annoying children making a lot of noise, but you can't really fault Pearl for that. The service was not fast, but he was polite and accurate. On reflection, we would likely have had a better experience somewhere else. read more

If you're looking solely to eat sushi, this is definitely your place. However, we ordered delivery, and our order did have several problems, mostly outside of the sushi. First, our order was about 20 minutes later than what they had estimated. Also, the hibachi steak was undoubtedly the toughest meat I have ever had in my life. Using my teeth and both hands, I was finally able to tear off a piece and chewing for several minutes to be able to swallow it, and once I accidentally slipped and threw it across the room. Definitely not for the faint of dentition. It's just as well that they forgot to include a plastic knife as I'm sure it would have been pointless. The bright red "medium well" steak was also fairly under-seasoned. All of this being said, the man delivering the food was very nice, they included some pop and spring rolls for being late, and the sushi was actually quite good. read more

My mom took my sister and I to Pearl Sushi after a long beach day at Grand Bend. We were all starving and lucky for us, Pearl Sushi was fast and delicious! Granted, there was no one else in the restaurant when we got there, but we showed up for an early dinner. My sister and my mom ordered chicken terriyaki dishes, and I ordered the Mary Poppins set of sushi (20pc total of California roll, spicy salmon roll and dynamite roll with shrimp). We all got complimentary miso soup and ginger salads with our meals along with some fresh watermelon at the end :) The prices were reasonable for what we got - my dish was $20, and the terriyakis were $15 each. I'm surprised with the decent reviews of this place. The waiter was was nice and attentive, so that was about the only plus. We ordered one of their sushi boats to share and if you like fresh raw fish, I would advise against ordering it here. The fish did not taste fresh or look fresh. Usually a sushi boat should have a good presentation as well. Absolutely nothing to look at here, look very sloppy and plain. The rolls looked messy, and tasted just mushy even with the crispy bits in them. We came here another time for lunch and weren't impressed. There are much better nearby places in London or Kitchener if you prefer non-ayce Japanese food. read more

My boyfriend and I have been going to Pearl weekly up until the owners changed hands. Today we went for lunch and being regular customers they had no idea. The waitress did not even know what all was on the menu - we knew more than her. We ordered the Mavolio set which states it comes with Dynamite and a variety of sushi. Well it came with no Dynamite, we asked the sushi chef and he practically yelled at us telling us there was to be no Dynamite included in this set... We looked on there updated online menu and it CLEARLY stated that there was to be dynamite. He would not replace the role he gave us and charged 2$ extra for spicey mayo (its usually free everywhere else) . If the customers know the menu better than the owners there is a hugeeeee problem with that.... We did not tip as they do nothing to make you happy and we WILL NOT BE GOING BACK... our friends will be informed about this as well. read more
