My partner and I just purchased two brand-new bikes from Bob at PT Cyclery (All-City Space Horse and Surly Straggler). I've worked for and been a customer at several bike stores, and I've seen the best and worst of technical expertise, customer service, and attitude...and I'm happy to say that we got the absolute best of all three at PT Cyclery. Bob has been in the industry for well over 20 years, and he's great at guiding with his experience and knowledge instead of pushing it down your throat. I was actually leaning towards a different bike, but after several long conversations with Bob, I went with the Surly Straggler and I'm so glad he took the time to help me figure out which bike would actually be the best fit for me and my riding style. On top of that, he did a rush (but thorough and high-quality) build on my new ride so I could participate in a last-minute bike tour. I signed up for Yelp to write this review, that's how amazing this bike shop is. My girlfriend and I were halfway through our bike trip and desperately needed some padded shorts. We swung by the shop, and even though it wasn't technically open, Bob happened to be there and opened up the shop for us. He was extremely helpful and got us some good fitting shorts, and we were on our way. Then, a couple hours later as we were heading out of Port Townsend, guess who pulls up beside us on the road? Bob! He saw that we were riding on a dangerous stretch of highway and offered to show us an alternate route. He ended up riding with us for over an hour. It was the most beautiful section of our entire trip and it was so fun to have Bob's company. He's clearly very knowledgeable about bikes and local bike routes, and so friendly. Fantastic service. This is the real deal. You go in and Bob will work your problem until it's fixed. I was there to figure out clipless riding, not a normal consumer issue. He had my shoes and pedals set up without difficulty (well, other than the fact that I had messed up my shoes, he took an hour to correct the cross threading of my shoe screw hole and he didn't charge me an hours labor) and showed me how to add this new dimension to my riding. This is the place to go. I was very pleased. I guess you know you are in the right place when you get there at opening time, and you have to wait a moment because he has to take off his riding clothing to get ready to work. We rented bicycles for the day in Port Townsend and were very happy with our choice of P.T. Cyclery. It is in downtown Port Townsend near the main street. The owner, Bob, is extremely nice, eco-friendly and knows bicycles, bike routes and other relevant information. He was a big help with a variety of information about the area such as dining recommendations. P.T. Cyclery has various bikes available for renting, new and used, and prices are very fair. It is a full service bike shop and sells new and used bikes, bike gear, and repairs bikes. We chose to rent used bikes and our bike day included the Larry Scott Trail, Discovery Bay, Fort Worden, and town. We definitely will rent from P.T. Cyclery and Bob again next time we bike in and around Port Townsend. read more

First met Bob and Gabriel during a bicycle tour en route to a wedding. We prefer shops that stick to cycling roots instead of the TrekGiantSpecialized yuppy emporium franchises. Bob and I ended up talking for longer than my wife had patience for but a friendship was born. Fast forward a few months, I was looking for a relatively hard-to-find 70s Raleigh International. Now I generally enjoy the "thrill of the chase," in this case, the search, but Bob almost immediately sold one of his personal Internationals to me for a very fair price and shipped the bike to Idaho! My husband and I took a drive up to Port Townsend by recommendation from a family member. On the drive up, my husband suggested we rent bikes and ride around somewhere. So, as we were walking through town we spotted a sign for this place! We walked in a bit hesitant (this was our first ride in YEARS) but Bob, the owner, was extremely friendly and made us feel right at home by way of jokes and small talk as we figured out the details (helmet fitting, bike selection). He suggested a trail we try, showed us how to use the bike gears, and gave us a brief "rules of the road" lesson. The bikes were awesome, almost brand new and the price was great! Definitely stop by! If you are a cyclist in Port Townsend you absolutely must stop by PT Cyclery and meet Bob. My brother and I were riding the PCH cycling route and found ourselves in Bob's shop looking for some new tires. We left with some great new tires, and a whole lot more. Bob is extremely knowledgeable about bicycles and bicycle touring. He let us use his shop space and tools to work on our own bikes, and he provided advice about our route, bicycle maintenance, and much more! I've been doing business with PT Cyclery off and on for about 25 years overall. Went dormant on biking for a long time and when I returned with an e-bike I wanted Bob & Co. to assemble, check out and tune up out of the box, it was the same great experience I've had in the past. The work was done on schedule and for a fair price. I could have done the assembly myself, but I wanted to be sure there was no shipping damage I might overlook or anything out of whack that might cause operation or safety issues - the money spent was well worth it. Quality bikes and quality folks--definitely recommend! I rented a bike from PT for a tour on the Olympic Discovery Trail as I'm from out of state. Bob asked all the right questions to ensure I had a bike that fit my needs-- while also giving the right amount of suggestions and things for me to consider beforehand. When I got into town we spent about an hour together to ensure the bike was set-up as I needed and was on the road. Best Biking Ever! Bob runs a heck of a business. His customer service is off the charts. He delivered bikes to our hotel one night so we could take off early the next morning, and provided everything we needed for a successful ride. The bikes themselves were A+, and the trail he recommended was absolutely picture-perfect. Biking was a real highlight of our experience in Port Townsend, and I'd return just to do it again - maybe try another trail. There's probably no such thing as a bad bike shop, but Bob and PT Cyclery are over-the-top. Bob equipped us with two rental bikes and tools, tubes, etc. for a week-long ride on the Olympic Discovery Trail. He was helpful from the first time I called him, weeks ahead of time, and checked in occasionally on the ride. His rental fleet is not the typical cookie-cutter bikes meant for one season's use in a resort town; rather, his bikes are solid, well maintained rides with durable components that are good for years. I travel a lot for work and am exposed to all different levels of service. Let me tell you, Bob is in his own category of "exceptional." We came through PT on a Sunday and were there for the afternoon and a single night. When calling around and looking for bikes to rent for our family of 4, Bob answered his phone even though he was closed. Not only did he meet us at the shop quickly to outfit us, he gave us great directions and let us keep the bikes overnight to enjoy them as much as possible. BOB IS THE GREATEST. About 40 miles into our ride to Port Townsend from Seattle I popped my third flat, my tube was done for. My friend called P T Cyclery's phone and Bob was luckily making his way back on the Seattle Ferry at that moment! He actually stopped by on the side of the road and brought us a new tube! His hospitality and kindness is unmatched by anyone in Port Townsend we met! Such a great experience. He was very caring an passionate. Stopped in for full day bike rentals and Bob, the owner, was AMAZING! He outfitted my girlfriend and I with brand new bikes, and even unboxed some new helmets for us. Oh and he even coordinated our helmets with our outfits (and bikes) maybe this was just a coincidence but he definitely went the extra mile to make sure we had a great day biking. Stopped in the other bike shop on Water street but they weren't nearly as friendly and were much more expensive for trail bikes. PT Cyclery is a little hidden but definitely a gem! read more

Bob is the plastic surgeon of vintage bikes!! He made my Bianchi Brava, circa 1987, like new again. He spent a lot of time with me, making sure he understood what type of riding I do and what I was wanting from an upgrade. He gave me very good information and education about what he thought would be best for my bike. And his recommendations and upgrades were spot on, as my bike is now very enjoyable to ride and really almost like new. I love it!! Brought my bike in for a tune up and new tires. Bob was friendly and knowledgeable. He took time to educate me about the benefits of different tires and to show me the difference between my current brakes and new ones. I definitely needed new ones. In just a few hours I was able to pick up my bike - completely checked out and sporting new tires. We travel about one hour to use PT Cyclery. Stopped in for a tandem rental because they were in town and offered a good price. Kind of expected something beat up. Nope. The owner rented us a beautiful bike suited to the nearby roads and gravel trails. Took the time to make sure we were comfortable on a tandem before messing with the paper work. Then sent us off with helmets and directions to the nearby trail system. We nearly transited the peninsula before heading back, a wonderful introduction to Port Townsend and tandem bicycling. We scheduled our bike rental with Bob Chung at PT Cyclery in advance. We rented six bikes. Bob fitted each one of us with a bike that matched our size and needs. Then he gave us a list of places we would enjoy in the area. We rode out to lighthouse, enjoyed a nice lunch at Taps. Then we went for a ride along the bike path through the woods.
