We picked this place to avoid the Nyhavn crowd and to try to have a nice quiet lunch together. Perhaps there might have been some amazing restaurant just a few blocks away, but as short-staying tourists, we'll never know what we missed. We were seated inside relatively quickly and were happy to settle in. Service-wise, we were well taken care of, even though the restaurant was clearly short-handed. I also found the inside dining room to be classy casual and quite comfortable. I ordered the Moules (Blue Mussels), while Gayle chose a generous Classic Club Sandwich that she couldn't finish. Both choices were excellent ones of which we took our time enjoying and chatting. As we left Ravage happy, energized, and full we knew we had made a good lunch choice.

I chose the herring platter, because when you go to a place called "Heering" in Copenhagen, you get the herring. It was excellent. I've never had that much herring before (and I doubt I ever will again), but I was able to enjoy five different preparations of the fish while sitting under a nice little overhang and chatting with friends old and new. I would recommend this as a place to stop for those visiting Copenhagen.

I was lucky to find an open table under an umbrella that offered a nice bit of shade on a sunny afternoon and was greeted by a friendly staff that spoke English very well. I asked for a classic reccomendation and they said to order the "STJERNESKUD" which is fried & poached fillets of plaice served with mayonnaise, prawns, caviar. The presentation was great and the fish was perfectly prepared and tasty really, really fresh and good. Although I ate outside, I went inside the pub to use the toilet that was upstairs and if it was cold outside or had no seats, I think the vibe inside the pub with limited seating on the first level was super cool and looked like this place was built hundreds of years ago, but in outstanding condition.

(what?! is that possible in Copenhagen?!) After sorting out the confusion of the ordering process, we found that dinner is a pre-fixe menu of 3 courses meant to be shared between two people. Hold on. If you're thinking, we're supposed to SHARE dishes at a French restaurant where courses are traditionally small to begin with? (we were proven wrong, in fact, we had leftovers) The food is casual and uncomplicated. We had foie gras to start, simply salted and served with pickled plums and grilled bread. I can't get foie gras in California so it's always a priority when I travel! For our main course, a very hearty braised pork shank with carrots, leeks and root vegetables. This comes with mashed potato and French green beans. Dessert was a divine assortment of molten chocolate cake, creme brulee and ice cream. You'll be opening your belt a notch to accommadate your expanded waistline ;-) The street Værnedamsvej is lined with French cafes, small specialty stores and this restaurant seamlessly folds itself into the mix being a former butcher shop. Butter deliciously salty. If they served this with ice cream or something sweet for dessert it would be the perfect sweet/ salty combo - Hiramasa dish: light, refreshing dish. The cheese foam bottom is reminiscent of a whipped, light sour cream and adds depth to the light fish. The shaved asparagus and fingerlimes add the perfect touch of crunch and acidity - Witch flounder, so delicate and mild in flavor, the purée adds depth to this dish while the bread topped outside creates structure.I've never had such a light piece of bread topping Love the garlic dollop and radicchio topping. Every part of this dish feels intentional - Sweetbreads: perfect cook on the meat, I love the light sherry paring with this since the main part of the dish is fried. I loved the combo of pickles and caramelized onion but I'm an onion lover. (Call me shriek) Definitely a nice contrast in texture and more of a main dish than the other 2 - Lamb: the only dish that didn't nail it for me. Started off with the green asparagus which I thought was excellent as it was served with some tasty aioli The Stracciatella I wasn't a fan and the flatbread was also different...It's my first time eating Danish food so perhaps I'm not used to Danish food? Moved on to the grilled langoustines that the waiter suggested and they were grilled to perfection but didn't taste super fresh as the meat was mushy.. They're smaller portions, so they recommend 3-4 plates a person, but we weren't super hungry, so the amount we got was perfect.
