AHIMA promises a certification which delivers a career you can live and thrive on. No such luck…read more First of all, it took me about 30 hours a week and 6 months of job hunting in order to find a job that pays me less than what I was making in Optometry. I took the job because I moved in to care for my elderly parents, and was lucky enough to be able to take the pay cut just so I could break into the field. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the opportunity. However, it's a year later and I still cannot seem to get one interview with another company. I have a Bachelor's degree. I also have an RHIT, RMA, and NPA. All of the other reviews written here are not wrong. People have the right to feel frustrated especially when getting an RHIT is way too expensive for the return in salary. The idea with obtaining an education is to come out of it living on something that extends well beyond minimum wage. I mean, how dare we expect food, rent, and transportation in the form of a car? I'm sick and tired of the healthcare industry telling us that we shouldn't be allowed to speak our minds or have an opinion about it. If it is done constructively, it should be digested as feedback. Power is not easily maintained and utilized by those that have been granted. It's a shame. Anyway, I stopped by to leave a review because I have to tango with AHIMA once more in order to get CEUs for the RHIT. I just got off the phone with one of the AHIMA representatives. I had asked him where the cheapest website was in order to get CEU credits. I need 20 credits. You know what he had the nerve to tell me? I'm laughing. He said to me, " I can't tell you. I can only tell you about AHIMA courses." This is how I heard it, "We don't respect the fact that you cannot make ends meet. We only care about the money we make for our own institution so I am not telling you where to get affordable CEU credits. I only want you to pay top dollar with AHIMA so that any money you've managed to save over the years since you've graduated, you can spend it all on us all over again. Yay!" And anyone calling in will hear it that way. AHIMA can scoff and get flustered all they want. It doesn't change the truth. I'm very proud of all the hard work I've put into my education. It's just perverse that there is no job market and AHIMA makes it worse by finding different ways to keep taking your money post graduation. For those of you that care to know, it is $600.00 to read articles and take a quiz at the end of the article. That's $30 an article. You can pay $1080.00 for a series of "webinars" where you just sit, watch, and take a survey at the end and nothing more. If that doesn't tell you that AHIMA is just after your money, I don't know how else you're going to see it. I'll figure something out. The point is that it just takes time to network with the right people in order to work the system and find something affordable. It's out there. Too bad AHIMA doesn't want to be that institution. AHIMA knows all of those websites. But they aren't telling where. Best of luck to all of you. I know you're working hard. Keep it up!

The curriculum was developed by Jerry Cleaver and taken from his book "Immediate Fiction". Sadly, Jerry is no longer with us but the class is ably and cheerfully taught by Mary Carter. Ms. Carter has published close to a dozen novels and is a former workshop participant. The class is six weeks long. The first class is absolutely free. You pay nothing if you decide not to pursue the course. You do get a free copy of Jerry's book though. Each class goes through the basic elements of good storying writing (WOARS take the class and find out what that means). Each of the five remaining classes provides time at the end to write. The work is read and critiqued at the subsequent class. I think you'll be pleased at the jumpstart your writing projects will receive from participation. I've gotten great help from Mary on my writing projects from both in and outside of class. I'm afraid to take a workshop anywhere else for fear of rank disappointment.
