DeVry University uses a combination of online, resident and hybrid classes which leverages technology to provide a variety of educational experiences. My experience is rather recent, and I have many more classes to take, but my early impression is that the classes are appropriate for adult study. The use of online presentations, labs, and in class lectures are a good combination for a returning student. My most recent classes were in English and database technology. The instructors were available online and through video conferences to answer questions and provide more information than that which might not be available in class. The database instructor was quite familiar with her subject and had provided additional class time introducing the student to enterprise database systems like MySQL, Oracle, and MS SQL. The SQL string and some object orientated programming concepts were introduced to be built upon later. My English class was original yet covered the essential elements expected in an introductory class with some work related writing emphasis for practicality. The instructor allowed a wide latitude in the selection of subject matter to write about in order to focus on the writing concepts at hand. The instructor also was not excessive about minor items related to format at this time. As an introductory course, the focus was in applying the concepts e.g. applying proper APA format to a report which will be built upon in the next course. My early impression is that I would recommend the school for the level of instruction I received and the responsiveness of the instructors that I have experienced up to this time. I am a Keller Graduate Student, I took a Stats class with Dr. Al online. I had a great learning experience in this Professors online class. Dr. Al was very respectful and considerate of the timezone differences of the class and made his office hours as flexible as I have ever known a Professor to allow. I appreciated this because I operate during the later part of the day until the night and I live in California, the Professor was based in Chicago, but his response time to my questions rather email or phone was remarkable. I have never had a Professor respond with such swiftness at anytime. (To be fair to this post I must state that, I did not contact the Professor after midnight). Anytime during a test or assignments, the Professor gave very good lectures and explanations of the material covered. His goal is not to fail a student at all, rather he would wants to be sure you have a good understanding of the material before the student proceeds. I took this course with another Professor at this same University and received an F, I re-took this course with Dr. Al and received an A. I have a complete understanding of statistics and through his teachings am able to see statistical calculations in everyday real life situations. I an entrance exam recently and the score was based on a score band, prior to Dr. Al's course I would have been wondering what that band meant and so on and so forth. Now, I have a great understanding how that score was calculated and what it was derived from. Back in March when I was recommended to take Econ545 with Dr. Eshterefi, I was hesitant. That was because it followed Statistics. I didn't think to take to statistically well known extremely tough classes. I don't have many classes before graduation-so I jumped in with both feet. The class in and of itself was not too difficult. Just know if you are taking two classes, working full time - you will not be able to do Economics. The homework is doable but formidable. I challenged myself to take it to step by stop. Then I was hit with COVID. A pandemic covering the globe finally got to me. I was sick so quickly it caught me off guard. My doctor told me, as tests are not available (even as of today), and hospitals/clinics were full; stay at home and wait it out, was the advice. Needless to say, the virus similar to COVAD-19 struck me down. I lost track of classes and work. The fever reached close to 104, but the fever stayed below. Why doctors avoided questions as there were no answer from Washington DC - or safe ones. I write this because Dr. Eshterefi was worried about my health as I was. I thought I could overcome it after a week or two. Every estimate to catch up - I missed. Sapped of energy and filled with hallucinations, Dr. Eshterefi was patient and kind. He wanted me to pass his class and knew I had it in me - it would need to be pushed. We worked together, constantly revising as the sickness would sap my energy. I was able to work through the last necessary assignments to pass the class - THANKS - to Dr. Eshterefi read more

This is my fourth term here at Devry, and I love it here. I am currently taking marketing 319 (Professor Rucks) and Contracts and Procurements 410 (Professor Moretti). I am a year out from graduation, and my experience here has been much better than my previous experience at NIU. They are much more engaged with the student body and the knowledge is more practical than theoretical. For example, there are no finals. Instead, each class has its own culmination project, formulated to demonstrate a working knowledge of the course materials. The course work is challenging, but the professors are very accessible and willing to help. Dr. Bright Justice, the new dean, personally came appeared at two different on campus classes so far. He is a man who truly cares about his student body and his compassion comes through. They are tied in with the local business community as well. I am working towards Project Management, and my teacher is sitting on the Chicagoland PMI board. I am currently applying for volunteer positions to use as a bridge into my new career field. I cannot say enough good things about the staff and my experience here. The level of service has been enough to get me through the hard times and give me the confidence I need to succeed going forward. Give them a try. They really are a cut above the rest. read more

I was hesitant to take this course and as much as possible, I was trying to dodge " "ECON545". I will base this review from pre-taking the course and post. Prior to taking ECON545, I had limited amount of knowledge about business economics and thought to myself this is just another course that I need to pass at least and get over it until I was assigned to Professor "Dr. Luan Eshtrefi". All my assumptions were incorrect! Dr. Eshtrefi is not just your typical professor that will give you bunch of data on top of boring discussion regarding business economics, he will make sure that each students will understand our weekly discussion, and how does he know if we get it? He invites feedback right away at the end of his lecture, if there's any "silence" he will make sure that we are following by providing realistic and timely examples. Also, if a student wants to get a better grade on this class pls read before the lecture so you can interact very well and makes the lecture more livelier! I was very impressed about this course and Dr. Eshtrefi not only did I change my perception about ECON545 but I grew interest in U.S Economy which I find myself checking the news and better understand what is GDP, aggregate demand, aggregate supply! I am now confident to discuss with other people, what do you think of our US economy? read more

I have been attending DeVry for several years. For the most part the professors have been amazing. There has been only a select few that weren't as they should have been. The ones that were amazing,and there were so many to name, were more than that; they went above and beyond to make sure that the students understood the course material. Even when I was on my deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, the professors were there to help me with my assignments. Even allowing me to have some extra time due to being on missions throughout my deployments. As far as my Advising Team, they are top notch. They would not only help me with my decision making for my next sessions, but would periodically check up on my progress in the classes that I was taking to see if I needed anything. I had to have a break in classes due to personal situations going on at the time, and when I came back to finish my degree, my degree had been dropped. However, the advising team went to work for me finding me a new degree that I could use and transfer my credits towards that and get my Bachelors. I am only a few classes from my degree and I am so glad to be on the final stretch. I plan on taking additional classes once I get my degree and work towards keeping my skills fresh for the job force that is out there. read more

As a full time online student, making a stab at my second degree I will have to say that I enjoy the flexibility of online learning. Pros: I have the ability to attend class in my jammies. I can still hold my full time job. I can still attend my kids events (and they are many). I know what to expect each week. The classes are broken down into 8 week sessions. There is not time wasted on needless talking or communication. I can study at my pace. I do not have to leave my home. There is a mobile app, that allows me to work when I can where ever I am at. Cons: Instructions may not be as clear sometimes and you have to send and email and wait on a reply. I may need immediate feedback but have to wait for a turn around. (depending on the professor is the turn around). Over all I am happy, now there have been some times where online learning has had its Technical problems during Live sessions, but that's not person error. read more

I just got finished up my BUSN319 marketing with Professor Michial Schickedanz and co Professor Bonnie Rucks and it was on of my favorite classes I have ever taken. I really enjoyed the virtual class room part. The Web Ex virtual classes is a very nice feature for the on line students. The virtual class room is great aspect for student who are more visual learners. Having the ability to talk directly to the professor about questions was great. Professor Schickedanz did a great job of explaining marketing techniques and how marketing is utilized. Having a professor with real life experiences is also a plus. He was able to translate from the text book to experience he personally had in his career. As a result it made understanding marketing terminology easier. I have had many up and down moments with DeVry. Several months ago, I probably would have given the school just 1 star. However, I was lucky enough to be in contact with Karalyn Voelkner when I called to try to resolve some issues I had been having. Karalyn listened to what was going on, helped me to identify a path forward, and was patient, understanding, and caring the whole way. She has gone above and beyond to help me, and thanks to her, I have been able to get re-enrolled to finally finish my BS degree. I could write an entire paper about how wonderful Karalyn has been. I truly do not think that I would be this close to graduation if it weren't for her. If this review were on Karalyn alone, it would be an easy 5 stars. However, there are others at DeVry that have not been as helpful, hence the 4 star review. read more

This is my first term and first week at Devry University online. I have been having a great start off for the most part and came across a HUGE hiccup with one of my assignments, and that's when My professor Nichelle Manuel came and saved my night. I had spent 3hrs trying to figure out a hiccup with my citrex and microsoft applications, and unfortunately the "24hr Tech Support" wasnt much of a support after all. Professor Manuel assured me when she got home she will do her best to help and she did just that. She made sure we worked together to solve the issue, mind you its going on 10pm so she went out of her way to help her student. Professor Nichelle Manuel is the kind of professor EVERY student deserves, a Caring, Determined person who wants to see you suceed. Thank You so Much professor for your dedication. read more

I just completed MATH533 (Managerial Statistics) via VTC. I wasn't fond of taking a class using video teleconferencing technology but the instructor, Dr. Al Sharoa was extremely responsive to my academic concerns. The course content was easy to comprehend from his teaching methods and all my questions (outside of class) were quickly answered. At first I was hesitant about going to DeVry/Keller for my MBA. I've heard many horror stories about for-profit schools. DeVry hooked me on their flexibility claims. My work schedule is detrimental to any programed learning environment. I'm amazed how accommodating and supportive they have been in meeting my academic needs. I'm also impressed by what I have gained from the MBA course material thus far. read more

I just finished this semester. The most recent class I took was Marketing (online) with professor Bonnie Rucks. She knows her material very well and she was good in following up with the students. In addition to that she made a tremendous effort in keeping the students more engaged by conducting live lessons every week. I highly recommended it. In my personal opinion one of the great benefits about participating in live sessions is that I had the support I needed, I was able to get clarification about any particular topic or concept and most importantly I received the proper guidance needed to complete the projects eliminating errors. I have had some challenges getting used to the online classes but the professors are extremely willing to help and will take the extra steps to help you out. One professor that truly comes to mind as going above and beyond for his students is Dr. Mohammad Al Sharoa. He is very helpful and will respond to your emails rather rapidly, even when you think he should be resting. I was very unsure of being able to take on a MBA while working full time, raising a family and maintaining a few rental but the instructors and faculty has made it possible for me to be completing my MBA in 2020. I love going to DeVry. I started at another University and was not happy with the schooling I was getting. Once I made the switch to DeVry, everything just started falling into place. They are very friendly and help you succeed. I am currently taking a class in Introduction to Humanities with Professor Dr. Shawn Schumacher and Converged Networks with Professor Cung Nguyen. Almost finished with my Senior Project (last class) with Devry. Overall, the courses for my degree have been great and increased my knowledge on a plethora of topics. I'm active duty military and the online courses and virtual classroom interactions have made obtaining a degree enjoyable. Nicole Green is an awesome student advisor for military members and I highly recommend her. Lastly, my Senior Project Professor, Ms. Bonnie Rucks, has been amazing and is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to business, marketing, and overall project management.
