I love this church. Before making St Andrews my home, I looked a lot of other Episcopal churches in…read morethe area. While all of them were great churches, none really spoke to me. And then I came to a 10am eucharist on a Sunday morning in the spring. Father Martin met me when I walked in the door and made me very welcome. The parishioners had their arms metaphorically wide open for me and when I joined them in worship, I knew I was home... Well, not exactly. That happened after the service. They were doing a "comfort food" lunch downstairs and invited me to join them. Much to my surprise and joy, they were serving grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup! I sat at a table by myself... being the shy person I am - don't laugh, people who know me! - . I had the table to myself for all of 30 seconds. Very quickly all of these neat people came to sit with me and asked me for my story. Wow. Instant family. Father Martin is a wonderful preacher and celebrant. Father Ed is the assistant. Ed is amazing. He's 97 years old and going strong. Martin and Ed are about my favorite people now. The service is wonderful and just to my liking. While the choir is small, they are wonderful. The organist is super talented and she plays a mean organ. Come join me at St. Andrews Episcopal! I'm there every Sunday morning at the 10am service. I promise you, I'll be overjoyed to see you and probably everyone else will too.

After getting…read moreto know the core values of the church, which we felt were inline with biblical principals, we decided to commit further and we both served on the technical team (lights, sound, projection) for Sunday morning worship. We both now help with the Youth ministry. Jeffery, the lead pastor, for the South Hill Campus (there are also locations in South Kitsap, Silverdale, Sumner and a Spanish Language Service in Puyallup), brings the word in a fresh, easy to connect with way that feels really applicable to the constantly changing and fast paced times we live in. We love the church's vision, to present hope and develop people. I have seen first hand the positive impact the church has had on my family and in my community. This is not the only church in Puyallup, it certainly isn't the perfect church (because real people go here) but it has proved to be the perfect place for my family and I to worship, grow, and serve. I believe in the mission of our church and I would like to extend a personal invitation to whoever reads this to come, check out a service and see what newhope is all about: people (like you and I) becoming the church.

Do you need a place of worship at which you can feel comfortable? How about loved? How about…read moreeducated? How about joyful? Well, Mount Cross is all of that and more. Their mission statement says: Rejoice, Renew, & Reach Out in the Name of Jesus, and we/they do it well. Mt Cross celebrates it's 50th year in 2008. There are all sorts of celebrations planned. Each and all of the previous pastors have been invited to come and preach here once again. The congregation's reaction so far has been glorious. Not every pastor is a great preacher, but the sermons these previous pastors have delivered have been uniformly stimulating and thought provoking, not to mention poignant. The congregation's president, Roger Knapp, has a clear vision of service to our community. You might know him as a local teacher, and his otherwise demonstrated organization, humor, and wisdom are serving him well in this position, too. Pastor Dave Steffenson is one of those rare people who make people feel at ease immediately. And his sermons are consistently first quality. If a Sunday goes by without him singing parts of a couple songs as illustration, we feel as though we've missed something. His education and depth of knowledge serve him well in our very diverse congregation. Sunday worship services are held at 8:15 and 11:00 AM from September through May, and at 8:15 and 10:00 AM from June through August. Between services there is a fellowship time with refreshments (and stimulating conversation!) provided. Sunday School hour is held for all (from 3 years old through adults) beginning at 9:45 AM from September through May. Last year Dr. Dan Peterson from PLU gave a series of talks for the adults on Lutheran origins and beliefs. He'll be back this fall (2008) for five Sundays beginning September 28th. I know the place will be "sold out" for his presentations. I wish he had been teaching when I attended PLU in the late 60's! Wednesday evenings (Sept thru May) there will be a supper open to all beginning at 5:30 PM. Afterwards there are various activities planned for all. Did you see (or read) the Chronicles of Narnia, the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe? Well, last year for a number of Wednesdays in a row, we had the whole series of Narnia stories summarized and the allusions explained to us. What a great way to spend a couple of hours on a Wednesday evening. Are you looking for a good, interesting, professionally guided preschool with a Christian overview? Noah's Ark Christian Preschool is becoming the talk of the town! The Vacation Bible School this past summer was WELL ATTENDED yet again. And there are many other educational opportunities for all - children as well as adults. Mount Cross partners in ministry with many other local organizations such as the Families Unlimited Network, the Peace Community Center, the Phoenix Housing Network, Habitat for Humanity, and many others. If helping others makes you feel as good as it does us, give this a try! Bottom line: This is no staid or stodgy place. Come listen to (and participate in!) any of the activities. OK, I was looking at the reviews and I think a lot of people are leaving negative reviews because…read moreof their personal bias or what they think at church ought to be but the one thing that you need to look for in any church is do they believe the Bible when I first started this in this church in 2017 pastor came on and showed us his Rolex and talked about his speedboat and I thought oh my goodness I am in the wrong place but then he held up the Bible and said you gotta get into this and you gotta get it into you this breathe life into you. He held up the Bible. He said this is it not me so if you're looking for a church you want to church where the pastor says this Bible is it I'm not it K number one number two they are heavily focused towards the youth pasture point is that he's gonna reach a generation that doesn't need saved and so they started the school if you got a child get him into the school system in motion church from kindergarten to college inside the church. You're gonna get solid education so there's that the number of people complain about the church and I think it's because they're used to small Mom and Pop organizations 25 to 100 people where everybody knows everybody else and that's not this church. This is a 5000 member church and so if you're not getting what you want out of it it's because you're not putting enough into it for you to get what you want out of it. there's all sorts of ways to get involved with this church and one person said oh I never got a call back well that's not the church's fault. this is a hospital for the soul and if you're not getting the help you need then you need to push a little harder for the help if you're looking for a phone call then you keep calling until you get it so 5000 people organization you're not gonna have anybody hold your hand in the beginning, but they do have many small groups you can join a small group and then you can have a relationship with other Christians that share like-minded things as you, but you have to put out the effort to get into the group and if at first you not succeed, you try again it's a 5000 member church they have three campuses they've got schools a school for kindergartners high schoolers and colleges and college students big deal. It's a big deal you don't just walk in and get to know everybody pastor is not gonna stop everything he's doing to come and shake your hand. Tell you hello that's not how it's done. You can't do it in an organization. This big delegation has to be a priority now below. I just got this in the mail from Pastor Dave Naron and I hope he doesn't mind me sharing it. I'm not gonna ask him. I think it's speaks clearly to those people who were wondering what kind of a church this is. This is a church where you can come to cultivate your relationship with God and this is just what's happening starting tomorrow Dear Motion Family, We are just hours away from stepping into something powerful together. Tomorrow morning at 6AM at our Puyallup campus, we begin our 5 days of prayer and fasting--and there is a real sense of expectation in my heart for what God is about to do in us and through us. The messages (sermons) are always Biblically centered, while focus on community, care, and accountability to loving others. The community invests in the city of Tacoma, going above and beyond.
