Tiny pet store in the shopping strip but the service is great and they have chinchillas! I mean seriously how often do you see chinchillas in your local petco?? They carry Blue brand dog food which was what I needed so that was useful but the selection isn't huge. I don't think they carry the cheaper brands but in that area I doubt that they need to. The gal had her beautiful giant dog in the office on his bed and he was so adorable and stayed there even though we tried to coax him out. Very friendly, so it was perfect for our needs. Oh I must add I was shocked at how competitive the prices were. The price we paid was the "sale" price we pay at Petco for Blue and that was their standard everyday price. read more

I'll take PC Pets over Petco or Petsmart anytime. I have a smart little Aussie who drags me to the pet store any time we're in the Ralphs shopping center and there's no question why. When we arrive, staff there ohh and aww over my dog and let her test out all sorts of treats until she finds something she loves. Prices are a bit high but you get nothing less than quality products. Treats and food are all-natural and vary for all sorts of trends: Raw, vegetarian, etc. They have everything from bowls, beds, collars, leashes and harnesses, toys, kibble... plus supplies for cats, fish and reptiles. read more

This is a boutique-type store, not a big box store like Petco. I have a strong preference for patronizing locally-owned businesses rather than the chains or the evil empire (Amazon), both to support small businesses and to maintain our having local communities. I think that Pacific Coast Pets' prices are competitive with the big chains. You get a free bag of dog food after you buy each 10 or 12. While the selection of products is smaller, it is comprehensive and I have been able to find everything that I need for my dog, from quality food, snacks, toys, meds and accessories. The sales staff is very knowledgable and helpful and it is a big plus to be able to park right in front and not to have to navigate a big behemoth of a store. Highly recommended for all of these reasons. read more

Stopped in at the Busch/PVH location to see about getting crickets to feed lizards. They didn't have any but she was kind enough to phone this store and ask if they had them. They did and though many were dead they estimated 100 were still alive . I thanked her, asked how much they were ($2.99 she said, to which I replied wow, two Dollars and ninety-nine cents? Yep she said and we laughed) and told her I'd stop in the other store and pick them up. When I did later much to my surprise they rang up at $11.99 + tax. I told them the clerk at the other store just a few hours earlier had told me $2.99. They tried to reach her but apparently she was out or had left for the day. I certainly wouldn't lie about what I was told especially since I repeated it and we laughed. I think the right thing for them to have done would be to honor the price particularly since so many were dead and speak with her later. With respect to the owner's response to my review I'll just say 1) you expected me to drive 10 miles home and 10 miles back while you waited for employee to return so you could confirm what I said? Really? 2) most of the crickets I bought were dead. They'd told me "some were dead" not most. read more

Pacific Coast Pets is a great little place to get all your dog supplies! Tucked inside Malibu Colony Plaza, and parking is a breeze. It is a small store, but I was able to find everything I needed and the selections are pretty good. Like the other reviewer said, they do not carry cheaper lines (like Pedigree) but I am OK with that. The people working there are all sweet to my dog and make him feel at home, plus no dog pee smell anywhere! Good job guys. read more

I love this store! Prices are fair - often BETTER than Petco (depending on the product), staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they carry A LOT for being such a small store, and they'll actually special order for me whenever they don't have something! Plus, I recently discovered they do DELIVERIES - free for over $50! But honestly, there's nothing like the feeling of shopping at a place where they know your name - not to mention your dog's name! That feeling of community is so priceless... The owners (a husband and wife) are kind, down-to-earth people, and I can just see how much pride they take in running their business. It's clear they put a great effort into educating their staff on product as well. Perhaps it's not perfect, I can see a few people have left bad reviews - but it does appear they are judging the place off of one bad experience. All I know is I know several people who have had profoundly positive things to say about this store, and it absolutely deserves our community's support. read more

I usually pass by this cute pet store, but never go inside. I was eating at Subway and one of the guys came out to give my baby, Gemma, a duck foot. She devoured it! Inside, they have a great selection of toys at a reasonable price. They also have adorable treats at check-out. The girl also gave Gemma another treat, which she absolutely loved!! I can't believe how sweet the staff was to my Rott/Shepherd mix. I recommend stopping by just to grab a treat for your baby, too!! We will definitely come back soon!! There is one guy here who makes me *so* uncomfortable and is always dropping the F word and cussing a lot when I'm trying to shop. He's this big guy with a beard, very loud but he doesn't seem like he cares about his job at all. Every time I go in he is never behind the counter, and doesn't rush to come to the front from the back. And then when I'm asking questions about products he's just talking to me about his life. There's always fine music in here but when he's working I noticed they start playing loud abrasive music like rise against and Green Day that makes me feel like I'm in a hot topic. I like the items here. But I just don't like going because of this one employee because he talks about drug use a lot. read more

Everything there seems more expensive then say a Petco, but that might have more to do with the location. Lots of parking in the area and a limited but decent selection. However, the customer service is below-average. Didn't offer to bring it out to the car, didn't know the difference between items, and was VERY short / rude with me. I have gone here since it opened for my dog's Innova without issue. It's a small little store, clean, and friendly, doesn't smell, and with decent prices for such a boutique place. However, unbeknownst to me, Innova was recently recalled for possible salmonella. Many pet owners' dogs have been getting sick or even dying. When I went in this past Sunday the Innova was missing from the shelves. I asked whatever happened to the Innova, neither of the two girls working there had any idea. There was no sign about the recall, and they had no explanation why they stopped carrying it. The girls said maybe it must just be on back order. This is a no brainer, if you work in a pet store that sells dog food, you should be up to date on any recalls, especially for a major brand like that. I went home and continued feeding my dog Innova from a prior purchase all week long until trying another pet store, Petco, where they told me about the recall. I should have just gone to them in the first place and I would have known a week earlier. I'm very disappointed Pacific Coast Pets didn't know about the recall and warn me. My dog could have gotten ill or even died all this time. I'm a big believer in supporting small businesses which is why I would come here all the time instead of Petco, even though I paid a few bucks more. But I can't trust them anymore. There's a reason big box stores like Petco do so well. Not only did they have a large sign up explaining everything you need to know about the recall, but one of their employees assisted me with selecting a similar food for my dog until this recall gets straightened out. Until small businesses are able to compete with that, they are going to continue to lose costumers who were perfectly willing to support them and even pay MORE to do so. read more

I have been in the North Malibu store three times attempting to purchase the large (26 lb.) bag of Orijen Six-Fish Dog Food. I have found it in stock only once. Pacific Coast's policy does not permit the staff to discount the food the the large bag per pound price. I came home and ordered it online with free shipping and will continue to do so. Sometimes, patronizing your local store just does not work. read more
