Love this place. Been boarding my dog here since they opened last year and it's gone well every time. We decided to give them a try bc my dog is highly active and I don't think she gets enough of her energy out in an indoor boarding environment. The girl needs to get out and run. They have outdoor play yards with an ocean view and I noticed when I pick her up after staying here for a few days, she is thoroughly exhausted. They are open seven days a week with flexible business hours. The staff is professional and clearly dog lovers and the place always looks and smells very clean. They sent me photo updates of my pup almost daily during her stays which is a nice touch. Best thing is that they do a total bath and deshedding the day before I pick my dog up so when he comes home, there is no evidence of the wild parties she's no doubt been attending during her stay with them, lol. We also switched her onto the food that they selling. It's a cooked formula called Pure and the dog loves it. Being in Malibu, it's a bit out of the way, but overall I would say it's worth it anyway especially considering how affordable their rates are. I've been taking my dogs here for daycare and boarding for almost 15 years. They take personal care for the pets and it's become a family place for me. They have their feeding time and a very spacious place to sleep when Boarding. They all have their fun time to play big or small. Ignasio lives on the Premises and keeps a good eye on all of them along with the rest of the staff. They all get fed at the same time and if there's any special instructions let them know. Horrible experience. I left my dog, a sweet pitbull rescue here for two weeks while I had to travel. I gave instructions to bathe him at least twice a week and I would pay more. I left shampoo too. I came back to find him with 25% of this hair missing, covered in open wounds and some old scabbed over ones. The tech told me that he was confined to his cell the whole time since some dog owners don't like pitbulls and this is a rule they have there. Would have been nice to know this "before" I picked him up after two weeks. The tech said that he had had no baths and was in his cell 100% of the time, which also means he was defacating there. No wonder he was a mess when I collected him. He had also gained four pounds since he had not been exercising, not to mention he had not been allowed to be with any other dogs the whole time, and they hadn't taken him out of his cell which means he didn't get much human contact either. My heart broke when I picked him up. And they still charged my credit card a day later. read more

I love this place!! This is our 4th time using this hotel for our dogs while we traveled (I don't review places until I try them at least 3 times) and each experience has been consistently good. The staff is very into the dogs and, most importantly, now our dogs go nuts wagging and barking when we pull into the parking lot. You cannot understand how happy this makes me! They are affordable and if your dog is socialized (like ours), then they go out in the play yard all day to frolick in the sunshine with the play group. We've also used them for baths so our pups come one clean which is a nice extra bc who wants a dirty pupper in the car! They are conveniently located about 5 min North of the countrymart and parking is a plenty. The place is kept immaculately clean (zero pee smell) and they're open 6 days a week. I highly recommend Malibu Dog Hotel and boarding! My dog comes home literally smiling after a full day of playing and hanging out with his paw buddies Ivy, Cash, Bowie and Jessie, just to name just a few. I've never ever had any problems or issues at all with MDH and know many in Malibu who use MDH and all feel exactly the same as I do. I've used this doggie daycare for years and never once had an issue, saw an issue, or heard of an issue with any dog at all. I'm extremely picky where I leave my dog but am very confident that if I leave my dog here for a few hours, or the day to play, or even boarding, they will look after him not only as I would expect but beyond that. The dogs are SUPER happy there! I have nothing but great things to say about MDH and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone who might need these services! I hate leaving bad reviews, but I think something needs to happen with this company and their lack of communication. Our dogs stayed here twice and both times we have not had a good experience. Although they have a very easy online portal to book appointments, actually getting hold of someone to talk to is very challenging. Prior to our first visit I tried calling and emailing to confirm a time for my dogs drop off, no one responded. When I showed up, I was stuck waiting at the gate on a Saturday around 9am, I called multiple times, rang the door bell and emailed. Finally someone showed up to let me in and take my dogs. At drop off for our second visit we confirmed that we would be picking up the dogs the next day between 3-4pm, the lady that check us in assured us that this would be fine. However, when we showed up the next day at 3:15pm no one was onsite. We called, emailed and rang the door bell, when finally we walked up to the entrance of the building to find a post-it note with a phone number to call. That person told us that they would not be back until 7-9:30pm that evening and that they close on Sunday's at 2pm. (I now see that on yelp they have changed their hours, however, the signage at their location still indicates that they are open until 5pm). We had to change our plans and drive back to LA without our dogs as they would not find a solution for us to get our dogs. This took an extra 3.5 hours out of our day and a huge inconvenience. When we arrived at 6:50pm we again rang the door bell, text the person that we spoke to earlier and he said he would be home in 10 mins. He was in fact home and made us wait an additional 30 mins until he finally opened the gate and got our dogs. I am not saying I have someone with my dogs at all times, but it is clear they don't care about the pets, or in having a clear communication with owners on what is actually happening at this facility. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG HERE!!! I picked my two dogs up and one was COVERED IN DOG SH*T. He is an all white husky and you could clearly see there was poop all over his FACE and BODY!!!I had requested they bathe him prior to pick up but they said they got the times mixed up. I don't know how long my dog was living with poop all over him. The kennel is dirty to say the least and it felt and looked like a pound when I demanded to go see where he had been sleeping. The whole back area smelled of urine and poop. My other dog seemed scared and traumatized. PLEASE DO NOT GO HERE. I WISH I HAD NOT!! read more

After searching, high and low for a boarding facility, we came upon Malibu Dog Hotel. We showed up, unannounced for a tour of the place, not a problem. They walked us thru the whole facility. The dogs we saw were happy and busy playing, so we decided that this is a place for our pups. Jesse provided us with the necessary paperwork, which we returned via email. We picked them up today, they were freshly washed and very happy...and tired. We are very pleased with our experience. read more

Hadn't returned since Sandpiper Pet Resort was sold. The new rates are higher, but the facilities have improved: A contact alarm is on the new front gate, the reception area is roomier and better organized, and an Airstream grooming trailer has replaced caretaker living quarters out front. The staff seems capable too: Ignacio (a long time on-site employee of Sandpiper) brought out two other pups about the same size as mine to greet her when she arrived. (I don't think she even realized that she was being dropped off.) Jedd called our vet to confirm our dog's vaccinations were up to date, and when one wasn't, offered to have her taken to the local vet in Malibu for a $75 fee. They seem prepared to address any issue. Only thing missing was an itemized statement at checkout. I was presented with a total and suggested tips on a screen instead. Unfortunately the total omitted a discount offered on Yelp, but I called, at their request emailed proof of the discount offered, and then was told it would be credited on my next bill. 5/9/19: Our dog has been twice more, once for the day ($35) and once overnight ($60). She had a bath the first time and Ignacio noticed her nails needed trimming when she got down, so he took care of that for free. They are very easy to deal with, and our dog loves the place! read more

I cannot recommend the MDH more highly!! I live in Brooklyn NY and my dog was in LA for training. She was diagnosed with ringworm and ended up staying at MDH for an 8 week quarantine. The facilities are amazing but the care and love my pup received were above and beyond. I was constantly kept up to date with communication on how she was doing, they took her to all her vet appointments and sent me pics and videos of her. Being so far away during a challenging time is difficult and the entire staff helped me get through. After being released she went back with her trainer for exercise and play. This is a first class business run by amazing humans. I am very fortunate my pup was able to stay there and receive the treatment she needed including giving her all of her meds every day. Such an amazing place! With some really amazing resources. They made me feel okay about leaving my pup in their care. I knew he would be safe and in good hands. If I can give this business Zero stars, I would. We boarded 3 of our dogs, 2 of our dogs did not get any sleep, didn't get fed (the guy working there himself mentioned they didn't feed 2 of our dogs). My brother picked up his dog, brought her outside and that's when we went to go pick up our other two dogs and my dog felt scared and wanted to take off out of there. Which is unlike her. I mentioned to my boyfriend that I was going to take her outside and that's when the man stated "yes, because she's over protective of you." Yes, I know my dog is protective of me but he did not come out until I took her outside and than as we left both the man and the lady were peeking through the window and I waved bye to them and they just turned around. They were creepy! I also think that they barely gave them water because as soon as we got in the car she would not stop drinking water. It's been 2 weeks since we got back and every night since that day our dog has been having nightmares every night! Our dog is like family and I am so upset and disappointed with this business! I have boarded my dog 5 or 6 times at the Malibu Dog Hotel. They have always taken wonderful care of my dog as well as any special needs I had for medication for her. She always looks relaxed and happy when I pick her up and they will give her a bath for an extra charge. They also know how to assess your dog to play with other dogs. I am a very satisfied customer and feel secure I am leaving her in excellent hands. By the way- my dog is a two year old German Shepherd. read more

Fantastic staff. This is the best place in Malibu. My wire fox terrier goes daily for daycare while I'm at work. He has a spectacular time. I have referred two friends, and both have been impressed. I tried the groomer last month and it was so stunning we were repeatedly stopped on the street. But best of all, they let my dog be a dog. read more
