So, recently, I engaged their services to rent out my condo. They were fine until it started showing. I have a tenant in the second bedroom who asked for no one to go into her room (opening the door counts). At the very first showing, someone opened the door to her room. I have a text record between the owner of this - we'll call it a company - saying which room was ok and which wasn't. When I confronted Lynn about it, she blamed the tenant and attempted to get information about her ability to lock the door. Lock the door? DON'T OPEN THE DAMN DOOR like I asked AND YOU AGREED TO! There - no need to lock it. The only good thing to come of it was the offender was willing to sever the agreement early. Considering I had cause to sever the agreement, it's really not that much of a plus that said offender, Lynn, was willing to do so. In summary, if you don't want someone that is immediately willing to trample right over your boundaries like a stampeding herd of elephants - find another property management company.

Not only did they, on several occasions, become highly confrontational with me, the home owner, they also flat out called me a liar, contributed to renters vandalization / destruction of property and over charged me in several areas by creating unnecessary maintenance bills. The last straw though was several months after I fired them, when I received a stop notice from my bank on a refund check the company issued me. The check was declined, I was charged a stop fee and the money was taken out of my account by my bank to cover La Costa Homes ridiculous accounting shenanigans. I would never recommend this company with the current managing staff.

I was in a rush to get my application approved and provided 100% of the required information on day one, but it still took nearly a week for him to process everything. Considering the unit had been listed for 4 months, you'd think there would be more of a sense of urgency. Once I moved in, I asked several times for referrals to various service providers and was told I'd receive copies of documentation, but he never followed through. After 6 months in the unit, for various reasons, I made the decision to move out and find a new tenant to take over my obligation. I quickly found a qualified replacement and offered to have my own real estate agent handle the transition, but Edward insisted on doing it himself, despite being extremely annoyed that he had to take on the work without being paid for it, since I found the replacement tenant myself and opted not to hire him. (Perhaps his previous lack of service had something to do with it...) Well, it should come as no surprise that he was, again, EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive to communication, both from me and the new prospective tenant. When I would text him to inquire about progress, he was very rude and told me to "let him do his job." If he was doing his job, I wouldn't have to text for updates! His rude behavior continued throughout the entire process, and he was even so unprofessional as to CC the property owner on his rude emails. I provided a full review of his awful service to the property owners, but feel that the rest of the community should be aware as well.

We asked questions about the property; was there any damage, what utilities are covered, when can my friends move in? All of these were either answered with "No, the house is in excellent condition." (Which we saw water damage on different areas of the house), "you cover everything," (which was just as a, you cover everything. End sentence and stare) "the sooner the better" (to which he turned away and went to go schmooze with those who looked like they got off the Golf course). He dismissed us, made us feel less than human, and like we weren't worth his time of day. You may be asking, "Well could you afford a place like that?" Well, my friends I know have a prestigious rental history, work in very respectable jobs, and have a better credit score than most people have at 55. Which I relayed to Greg, which he almost rolled his eyes at. Look, I get it, we don't fit into your stereotypical millionaires club. But at least pretend like you know how to act like a decent human being; you might get a lot more business that way instead of having to pay for good Yelp reviews.

Our property manager, Victoria Hempel tried to lie and harass us because we wanted her to remediate. We had to get an attorney and the city's code enforcement involved so she would do something, and stop threatening us. She obviously needs to look over tenant laws in California again or maybe it's time to retire. I would think twice on renting a property from them.
