I was raised on "The September Issue," back when it was so heavy you had to hold it with both arms, like a pre-med text book; I believe GQ has the best writers; I have a certain affinity for AD, since my old man built all of our houses up in PDX. And I have always gotten my elitist history from Vanity Fair...where else can you read about The Agnelli Family's scandals! Condé Nast isn't what it once was, sadly, but I still love to pursue the fun covers. As a former journalist, something about print, pour moi, will never be dead. I recently needed a copy of Japan Vogue for the kid's Saturn Return celebration, but none of the out-of-stock Kinokuniya bookshops had it (nor would they reply to my email inquiries *annoyed emoji*); however, the fabulous Paul had it brought over from his magical warehouse in a couple of hours. Brilliant. I'm telling you, kids, this stand and its people are LA gems!

Super cool newspaper stand with all the latest and greatest prints…read more From all the magazines (Vanity Fair, Auto Inc, The Advocate, GQ, Time, Fader, TV Insider) to the Daily Planet... Well the local LA Times and The San Fernando Valley Sun that is and even city happenings. You need it? They've most likely got it! Located outside the CVS on the South West corner of Ventura Blvd and Laurel Canyon. There's metered parking as well as shared lot parking for CVS and neighboring businesses directly off Laurel Canyon. Open daily as early 7am to as late as 7pm during the week, with extended hours on Saturdays and reduced hours on holidays like the 4th. The prices are very reasonable and as one of the last seven stands in Greater LA, Laurel Canyon News is definitely the way. Definitely support your local newspaper & magazine stands!

I have been to this Barnes & Noble so many times in the past and keep forgetting to write a review…read moreon them. This is a one-stop book store for all your needs. They have a vast selection of books from fiction to non-fiction, bibles, covers of bibles, cookbooks, celebrity books, autobiography, trend magazines along with other magazines.. wall to wall all the way in the back. They have a big selection of children's books too. Prices vary depending what you buy. They used to sell CD's too. Have bought few in the past. They have a little corner when you walk in to your right that sell gifts, knick knack stuff that are practical, beautiful, and unique. I have purchased few in the past. Walked in yesterday and got a warm, friendly hello from couple of their employees. They were eager to help me and see what I was looking for. I needed a few cookbooks, couple of celebrity books that always captures my attention and I was lucky enough that they had what I was looking for. If they don't have it, they will order it for you. Once it arrives, you will get an email, a text or a phone call from them to go and pick it up. Don't forget to use your 10% discount at the front. You have to be a member of the store. Store is BIG, clean, nicely organized alphabetically according to what you are looking for. All aisles are easy to navigate and it's pretty quiet in there which I love. They even have few armchairs to sit down and read a book. Great store..hands down!! Parking in the back shared with few other businesses. One gender neutral restroom and it is ALWAYS clean. Have used it few times. Thank you Barnes & Noble, all employees for your loyalty, dedication and always being kind and willing to help. Appreciated.

Got me some children's books and a non-fiction book, kind of a reading challenge as I'm sadly very occupied with my smartphone. And it's refreshing to see a whole wall of magazines. Every month, if you buy a children's book, you can buy a featured, popular kids' book for $9.99. I took advantage and love the amusing, heavily discounted "Mother Bruce". Many gift options as well- LP's, Legos, journals, mugs, candles, puzzles and stuffed animals, though they are overpriced. The store is in what looks like a converted theater. A big plus is the huge parking lot in the back, for the whole block. Really appreciate having a large, clean brick and mortar bookstore to immerse yourself in.

It's…read morealways caught my eye though, so when I finally had a day off (kind of rare nowadays) I made it a point to beeline straight here shortly after opening. It's located off of Cahuenga Blvd & Chandler Blvd, with a small private parking lot out back and plenty of street parking around. I knew this bookstore was stacked but wow! The Iliad is literally stacked with books! From floor to ceiling, this place is packed with books every which way. Because of this and narrow aisles, it can get kind of tight in places but it's easy to maneuver around. They have practically every category/genre you can think of, but be prepared to take your time since it'll take a while to look through everything. There are some seats if you want to take a load off and there's a clean restroom near the back. The new and used books vary in price, but for the most part they're on the cheaper side. The employees were nice and they even have a couple of friendly cats that roam the store (so watch your step!). I can't believe it's taken me this long to visit The Iliad, but I'm a fan and I'll definitely be back!

I've been a longtime fan of the Iliad bookstore ever since it was over at its previous location off…read moreof Vineland. What this bookstore offers is tons and tons of books. The moment you walk in the front door you're confronted with the fact that they have a lot of books on a lot of subjects. In fact, at this location, the moment you walk into the door, you find a gigantic pile of all kinds of books on all kinds of subjects that they're offering for very discounted prices. I've often wondered what would happen if you wanted a book on the very bottom of the pile, and if you pulled it out, everything may come flying. But, that's just part of the fun of shopping at this bookstore, you never know what adventure you're going to encounter. In terms of selection, they have books on pretty much any subject you can think of. In some ways, it's a little hard to find certain things in this bookstore due to the massive quantity of books they have all set up in long aisles. In some cases, what I find kind of fun/curious is the fact that perhaps they will have a sign telling you that a certain subject of books in a particular aisle, but, when you look down that aisle, you can find none of the books on that subject. Mostly, I believe, that's just because they've sold out of that particular subject matter. But, it does make for an interesting quest, because there's been a few times when I've looked around the shop and found books on that subject in a completely different section. Thus, the chaos of this book shop adds to the overall quest for that great piece of reading material. This bookshop focuses a lot on fiction and poetry. They really have a large collection by various authors from across all genres and across the globe. So, if you're looking for that really unique piece of fiction and or poetry, this book shop most likely will have it. Overall, ever since its inception, Iliad has been a great place to find books. Yes, it is kind of a chaotic/fun sort of a mess. But, that adds to the overall uniqueness of this business. Fun place to shop!
