It's pretty hard to tell which direction the ferry is going next though unless you're very familiar with the routes, so make sure you ask the driver just in case. I find that the ones I've interacted with all ask you where you're going before letting you on, so at least I haven't taken the wrong boat yet. They have a zone system for ticketing and at first it was a bit confusing for which zone ticket was needed to go where. But they have nice maps at each stop so it wasn't too hard to decipher after awhile. The boat drivers were also pretty nice and were happy to answer questions about tickets. I took the boats during the Big Picnic event at David Lam park. There were other people on the boat but it was not crowded at all. Boats also came all the time and so we didn't have to wait much before ours came. The boat doors were left open when I rode the boats and so it was really nice to be able to take pictures and videos without obstruction from the windows or clear screens. The creek is relatively calm most of the time and the rides are short, so most people probably won't get sea sick.

Considering how short the rides are, you dont really have to plan much. You can hop on hop off as you feel like. The boats are small, so there is never really much of a waiting time for docking or embarkation. Like a city bus but on water. Must try.

While this isn't billed as a tour, the ship's captain was kind enough to narrate the landmarks (including each owner of the the vast row of yachts docked nearby!) that we were passing as well as each of the stops and what adventures could be had there. She was really entertaining and kind, as she also helped with several lost travelers standing at one of the stations. It was a smooth ride on a sunny day and the views were absolutely gorgeous. FYI, there are no amenities on board, so no concession stand or washrooms, although the ride roundtrip is only around 40 minutes -you don't really need it to begin with.

It's such a short and sweet ride, but you still get to enjoy beautiful views of False Creek along the way. Another favourite is taking it over toward Science World and making a whole afternoon out of it. You can visit Science World, walk around False Creek and then head back to Granville Island. It's also really pretty at night when all the lights and signs are reflecting on the water. After spending a long day at Granville Island, hopping on the boat and just enjoying the ride is such an easy way to end the day. And the best part is that it's cheap! For the price, it's such a fun little Vancouver experience and something I keep coming back to and always making sure to have my out of town guests join in as well!

We were scheduled for a shuttle pick up from our hotel at 12:30 pm, but due to a marathon most streets in Vancouver were blocked to traffic. We were stuck on Granville Island and had no way to get back to our hotel in time. A call to Sewell's, and they sent a cab to pick us up at their expense and got us to our boat tour on time! The Sea Safari tour was outstanding. We got outfitted in our survival suits and they also provided gloves, hats, and eye protection if you need them. All you need to bring is your camera and you sit back and enjoy a two hour high speed boat tour of Howe Sound. We saw seals, sea lions, multiple bald eagles and a large variety of other birds. The guides are knowledgeable and really made sure we were comfortable and had a good time. This was our last activity on our vacation and it was an excellent way to round out our trip.

Well, Sewell's "Sea Safari" surpassed any of my pre conceptions, and I had a simply fantastic experience. The loquacious Bruce picked us up at our hotel, and we were entertained on our 25 minute ride from downtown to Horseshoe Bay. After donning the ridiculous looking survival suits and laughing at ourselves, we hopped on to the inflatable zodiac for our journey into Howe Sound. The two hours flew by as we marveled at the incredible scenery. The Vancouver area has been truly blessed. At times our guide and captain did doughnuts with the zodiac, and we all screamed with delight. Nature lovers will enjoy seeing rare birds and seals along the way. I'm not much of a nature boy, but the soaring mountains, coves and cliffs, were astonishing to view from the water. The people on our boat were worldly and fun to be with, helping to make the experience comforting. We had a great time, and I recommend this tour wholeheartedly.

* Vancouver Vice *…read more Ok, so we wanted to go to Bowen Island for the day and starting looking into the options. It was either BC Ferries or Granville Island Water Taxi. To take the ferries you have to get all the way out to Horseshoe Bay, which either means catching a long bus ride from downtown or driving (including dealing with the Lion's Gate Bridge traffic) and paying a lot for parking. The ferry by itself costs about $18 round trip and then you have parking, bus, hassle, etc. on top of that. Enter Granville Island Water Taxi. It leaves from the convenient dock near the False Creek Ferry portion of the Granville Island docks. It costs only $25 round trip to Bowen Island. It was a no brainer. You can book reservations easily online for any of their trips (which generally run every 90 minutes or so). The boat is much smaller than a ferry and only holds 12 passengers. You definitely feel the speed - as the captain revs up the engines the front half of the boat lifts out of the water. Picture Miami Vice but instead of loud neon suited cops there are a bunch of west coast laid back types with their bicycles and dogs. Vancouver Vice. From GI to Snug Cove it only took about 25 minutes. It could have taken that long just to get across the Lion's Gate bridge! Much better to take the excellent public transport especially when it's as fun as this. This ferry runs across Burrard Inlet from Waterfront Station in Downtown to Lonsdale Quay on Northshore. At most times 2 ferries run a service every 15 minutes, passing in the middle. Though it's accessible, it is a fair walk down a long corridor on the Downtown side. (You can also link to bus and Skytrain services there by the way). Once on the ferry the seating is functional but clean, and you can bet the kids will grab the seats by the front window! Never mind, in my experience you can see out pretty well wherever you sit, though there's always half the seats facing in the wrong direction! The journey across is just long enough to take in a view of cruise ships, mountains and maybe a few float planes taking off and landing. From the Northshore/Lonsdale Quay end you can visit the nearby market, or take a bus and head towards Grouse Mountain or Lyn Canyon Park. The buses are timed to connect with the ferries. If you have a travel card it will cover you for the SeaBus. Definitely THE way to travel to Northshore!

They claimed smoke in the engine room and limped back to port before we even turned into the Arm. Other reviews have reported unexplained itinerary changes that eliminated the main part of the trip. One has to wonder if they don't go up the Arm simply to save money when it's not fully booked or if their boats are that unreliable. While I understand mechanical issues, their compensation policy was completely inadequate. They offered a free drink on board and a coupon for 15% off a future cruise. Anyone booking on the internet can get a 20% discount off any cruise! After much back and forth they finally offered a 20% refund. The final price after this discount was approximately double the price of a narrated harbor tour. We received an un-narrated tour of the container port instead of a tour of the natural environment, which is what we were promised. We feel cheated by Harbour Cruises of Vancouver. Sail at your own risk!

We bought our tickets at the Capital City Station on Douglas Street in Victoria, and Sandy was absolutely wonderful, friendly, helpful, and patient. She even got us seats for October 13, 2025, which was Thanksgiving. Every company needs a Sandy, she deserves 5 stars for her service. Once we boarded the bus, things went downhill. Our driver, James wasn't very approachable. His responses were short, and he came across as a bit grouchy. It was a holiday, so we understand, but as first-time passengers, we found his instructions unclear and he seems to not welcome questions. When the ferry docked at Tsawwassen, we didn't hear it was time to reboard the bus to continue to downtown Vancouver. We missed the announcement and ended up being left behind, but our checked bags and personal items were still in the bus to Vancouver. Thankfully, the staff at Tsawwassen terminal were great. They guided us, called ahead to Pacific Station BC Ferries, and made sure we could retrieve our bags. When we finally reunited with the bus, James didn't seem particularly concerned or empathetic, which made an already stressful situation feel worse. We blame ourselves for missing the bus. But for future improvements, clearer announcements and louder overhead speakers would help first-time travelers. Even a quick name call for missing passengers would go a long way.

He gave us a wonderful tour as he told us about the history of the island and the natural sights all around. Incredible to see so many bald eagles perched on top of the trees. Fun seeing the "Bat Cave" at Finisterre Island. Being with Hasen was like hanging out with one's super nice neighbor. He was so congenial and helpful all day. He lent us dry bags for what we brought onto the boats and gave us a locked locker to use for our valuables. He also gave us some great tips on how to enjoy the rest of our visit to Bowen Island.
