    Uni $49 on 12/1/18
    Lani G.

Look at this uni tray!! And it was only $49! I can't speak on the other products because I only bought uni but there were lots of ocean creatures sitting on ice that looked fresh and delicious. Customer service: the man who took my money and gave me change was very nice...the man who actually took my order was a little gruff but maybe it's because I only bought one thing and this place is a wholesale seafood place so they are used to chefs buying in bulk. ‍

Horrible Service from the owner, go somewhere else The owner works the register acts like you're bothering him. Rushes you along and doesn't even wanna tell you what you're paying. Short and vague responses to your questions and speaks so low an unenthusiasticly he may as well tell you to leave him alone. We'll be going to another market just to have someone who acts like they want our money. It's a fish market so I don't expect service with a smile but I'd at least expect someone who willingly answers a question or two about the food I'm buying. Act like you don't want my money then you won't get it. I'll be sure to buy from your competition. I'd expect better from a business owner who deals with the public.

    The crab legs were awesome

The prices for seafood CAN'T be beat! We shopped at several seafood warehouse in DTLA and found this one in a desperate attempt to get crab legs. I will shop here EXCLUSIVELY from now own for my seafood boil and any other seafood items I need to buy in bulk!

    5lb Halibut.

Couple of warnings here: 1. If you are a vegan, please move on to another review. 2. If the idea of eating something that was live just 5mins ago bothers the hell out of you, please move on to another review. 3. If your idea of buying fish comes in 6oz fillet formed (w/o head + tail) and most likely pre-vacuum packed, then this place is probably not for you. 4. If you think walking through a warehouse filled with puddles of sea water smelling of the sea that might stain your shoes, then this place is definitely not for you. Now, to the rest of the brave readers... We love seafood and we love eating fresh seafood. Actually who doesn't? The problem is (and has always been) finding fresh seafood to purchase. I don't deny that Asian grocery markets have live seafood for sale. But over the years of shopping at Shun Fa, 99 Ranch, Hawaii SuperMarket, we have come to realize the quality of seafood is going downhill. You pay $6/lb for some injured and dazed looking live Tilapia. Not to mention squeezing and fighting with grandmas at the fish stand on a weekend morning. It is stressful. So our next stop was WholeFoods. Ok, buying seafood at WH ain't going to be cheap but the quality is assured. Pple who complain that fish are fishy smelling aren't eating fresh fish. Period. WH delivers but with $25/lb for Chilean SeaBass, you have to eat peanut butter for a week. Also, WH doesn't have tanks of live fish swimming around. Then we pondered: there has got to be a place where one has to wake up early to get fresh fish ala Tsukiji style. Ok, not on that scale but something similar. This place is almost it. We arrived at 7:20am and it was already considered quite late. Pacific Fresh Fish is located in downtown LA. The warehouse is lined with aquariums against the wall and boxes of fresh seafood in the center. Some are pre-ordered to be delivered to restaurants and other markets. Clams, mussels, oysters, halibut, tuna, shrimps, sushi grade seafood...you name it, they will probably have it. We asked around and apparently there is no minimum to buy. Cash only. Gloves provided. Wife and I felt like a couple of amateurs trying to find our way through. But we left with a 5lb halibut...alive and kicking. This is the first time we have to prepare a whole halibut but it was quite an experience. We were able to slice up 4 fillets measuring 15 x 5 x 1inch thick. Sashimi never tasted this sweet and this good. No picture of the place though a picture of the halibut will be posted...

Wanna eat fresh oysters until you're sick of em? This is THE place. ('Tis the season after all! I'll eat until Im sick of em and I'll be good until next year!) Once we found out about downtown wholesale/retail fish companies, we shopped around to get the best deals and ate sushi until we're sick. BUT FOR OYSTERS, I definitely recommend this spot! Yes, it's near the skid row, but its daytime and people are just people... there's a private parking lot and security. (Girls, dont wear shoes and clothes that you dont want to get wet - It's a fish company - floor is wet and smelly!) There's diff kinds - but we got the larger oysters from Fanny Bay - theres about 60 in a box/ $45. We only bought a box since they bring it out fresh from the back. (We went to another place which sold them for 1.25 each - way more expensive). Yes, DO talk to the guy behind the stand - he has his poker face but you just have to talk to him! :) You can ask for a bag of ice to keep your oysters iced. The oysters are SOOO FRESH - its literally still in sea salt water - guys do have to labor in opening them up but you cant get this anywhere..... !!! Open, Rinse with running water, and Try a few without any condiments or lemon - Sea salt water perfectly seasons it. Some tips: Just buy one good oyster knife on Amazon (should be sturdy with comfort grip yet thin) or get em cheap at Daiso for $1.50 - my hubby figured out how to open them up in few tries. Open and cut the top and bottom things that hold them to the shell (I dont know what they're called). It is seafood - rinse the oyster in running water to wash off the the excess shell that may have broken onto the oyster and to make sure there arent any worms - there are occasional worms on the outside shell/rocks so dont stack your oysters (after peeling them)!

    60 oysters for $45
    Mo C.

60 oysters for $45. Fast and easy to get a box of oysters at wholesale price. Oysters were fresh and tasted good. They were big too. Smell like the ocean. I like mine with lemon, salt, and tapito. They look like they came straight from the ocean with the seaweed on them still. They were hard to open if you don't mind then it's worth it. I didn't have a shucker knife so I used a screwdriver. Its close by skid roll its sad to see people homeless. They sell other seafood there too. Make sure you wear shoes they won't let you in with sandals.

One of my favorite things to get at Fish King is the plate with the swordfish skewers. This dish is honestly so unique, and I haven't found anything like it anywhere else. It's basically two shish-kebab style sticks of seasoned swordfish, peppers, and tomatoes, and it's served with a few sides in addition to fried veggies and shrimp. I also really enjoy their tacos. They also have very generous servings of poke (I personally don't get the poke from here because it's already mixed in with raw onions and I don't like raw onion). Prices are all very reasonable--the swordfish plate I mentioned earlier is around $15 and a pretty large amount of food. Fish King does get pretty busy especially around mealtimes so it's better to order in advance and pick up so that you don't have to wait around as long. I think if you order in person, you can expect a 20-30 min wait when it's busy. There's a small lot on the side of the market and sometimes you can find street parking too. There are some tables on both ends of the market so you can dine in, it's very casual.

We arrived at about 10am (opening time) and we were able to find a good spot in the private parking lot. There were at least 10 other people that must've had the same idea and show up early to beat the traffic. We opted for the grilled halibut and seabass dishes with garlic bread, rice, salad, and ceviche. Even though it was a little cool from the rainy weather, it was still nice enough to eat outside in an enclosed patio with electric heaters. They also have two restroom facilities for any bathroom needs. The main area where we ordered was also where we picked up our orders. We also had the option to call ahead and place orders for pick up/to go. Those were processed in the Seafood Market section (where they had different fresh fish and seafood options). The food was pretty good--opted for garlic butter sauce for the fish and it was the perfect complement to the halibut, but the sea bass was honestly so tender that it needed no sauce. The salad and dressing were as expected. Same with the rice. All of these portions were pretty big. The garlic bread was also pretty tasty and a juge portion, but the ceviche, although good, was a smaller portion than expected. It was fresh and quite flavorful and came with a side of chips. The food was delicious, environment was nice, and we came across others that made the trek out early to enjoy the food at this spot. Will definitely visit again in the future.
