A Quiet, inexpensive, pleasant hotel in Gold Beach Oregon, very close walking to the beach. It is pet friendly and clean. The staff in the evening is professional and nice. They are not in the office very early, but serve grab and go breakfasts starting at 0800. Too bad the Chowder house next door is closed, so no attached restaurant.

We couldn't get a camping spot at Harris Beach in Brookings and needed a place to stay for the night that was pet friendly. A quick search of the Brookings area, and there were no decently rated place down there, everything was bad. We came across Pacific Reef at Gold Beach on Priceline and Expedia for a same day book, but was unsure of they had any pet friendly rooms open still. We tried calling them, it was after 6 pm and no one was picking up. We took our chances, and drove 30 min north to Pacific Reef to see if we can just walk up and get a room and we lucked out! The girl at the front desk said she was slammed with calls and apologized that the phone never got picked up when I called. We stayed here for 1 night in their economy room on 12/29-12/30 and paid around $114. The room was basic and small, but it had a comfy bed, and mini fridge. The bathroom was spacious and clean. Overall, it was not a bad stay. We ordered pizza from the local pizza place down the street and they delivered within 40 min. I would stay here again if needed!

    Dirty and stained carpet

I don't write reviews often, but I need to on this one so people don't make the same mistake we did. We stayed here for 1 night in rm #225. For the price we paid $370, we expected a much cleaner and more updated room. You can tell they are trying to get the property fixed up, but to charge premium pricing for a run down room with extremely dirty carpet, old scratched up furniture and paint missing off the wall...we just expected more and left there very disappointed.

We had a great stay! We had the Murphy bed room. Room was clean bed was comfortable. Great view! We will definitely be back, so happy we found this place. My only minor complaint is the water pressure in the shower. Nice full kitchen was perfect for us because brought our own breakfast and lunch foods. Only a few minutes walk to the beach. We definitely want to rent the cottage next time.

    Broken chair on balcony

Where do I start? Don't waste your money! When I entered the lobby the lady behind the desk was so nice as she was talking to another couple. That couple exited the lobby and the lady went monotone and was very rude...like I was putting her out. When I innocently asked if there were elevators, she looked at me like I was nuts and abruptly said "No...just stairs". Upon entering the building to get to our room, we immediately noticed dingy, dirty carpet. Entering our room, we noticed a musty smell and one chair on the balcony was broken. They obviously doctored their pictures of their balcony views as ours was obstructed by an ugly screen (see pictures). And the "light show"....don't get me started. What a disappointment! For over $300/night I expected much more. Never again!

    Gold Beach getaway.

We stayed two nights in late July. The place is sadly dated and the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in short of a bed and toilet in San Francisco. The bathroom was engineered for a miniature elf. I've never considered showering on my knees until this place. The exhaust fan was a tiny window that didn't help cut the steam. We bought a 6 pack of water and four of the six froze solid as did a bottle of 7up. The bed was a brick with a blanket but was a credit to a bohemian lifestyle. Accommodations are limited in this town so don't be choosy, this is a solid two star. Be brave!

Very nice room, comfortable bed. You can hear the waves roaring in the distance. So peaceful. There is a club room even if you do not have a beach view room. Good value. Breakfast was included. The beach was beautiful even though it was very windy. Gorgeous sunset. You can view the sunset from your patio.

This hotel was the cheapest ever!!! Pictures online does not match the actual room you get!! Just check the pictures attached for the actual situation of the rooms you're gonna get!!

View of a cone-shaped mountain and, beyond that, many sea stacks. My photo of movie screen.

They have really fixed the place up since we were there. They have added a wonderful porch that has a hot tub overlooking the river. (The river has even moved since then and is now right below the deck.) It's a great place to watch the seals, blue herons, egrets, osprey, and the sunrise over the distant hills. There is a wooden fence between each patio, so you have some privacy. Inside has been carefully remodeled to keep a cabin feel, but also give a touch of elegance. The woodwork and decor are both very nice and give the room a very cozy feeling, along with the nice gas fireplace in the livingroom area. The kitchen is simple, with a fridge and microwave, but no stove. There are a few plates, bowls, wine glasses, utensils, etc along with a small coffee pot, but the coffee given to use is just a tea bag coffee thing, so I'd recommend bringing your own. The bed was comfortable with end tables on each side. They don't have any usb plugins, but there are outlets close to the bed. There's also a dresser and small closet. The bathroom is also well appointed with a comfortable shower, small shelf for your shaving kit, a hair dryer, etc. Overall, we were very happy to see our old apartment turned into such a wonderful, relaxing resort. It brought back a lot of good memories, and we really enjoyed our stay. This is a real hidden treasure for the Gold Beach area.

Stayed one night, June 2026 during the 3 day 90-95 degree heat wave. They are currently renovating the inside of the rooms. I'd booked two rooms and requested the rooms be side by side or as close as possible. They had our rooms in two different buildings which wasn't going to work. Kevin, who checked me in, said I could pay $80 more to upgrade and have the rooms closer, on the same floor and same building. So we paid for the upgrade, only to get into the "upgraded" room to find out it had no AC and that it was STILL in a separate building!!! It was a SAUNA in that room. Literally. I go back to the front desk, and Kevin, who checked me in and told me there were no rooms side by side available. He then also said he FORGOT that those rooms don't have AC yet. You had the audacity to charge me more, get me less, all while wasting my time. As I'm in the lobby trying to get a resolution, more guests were coming to complain that they too had no AC. Kevin then tells me he does have another room available right below mine but that he couldn't match the price I paid on Expedia, cause he'd lose his job. So now I had to book a 3rd room. Both rooms were modestly updated. AC worked great in one room and was intermittently turning on/off in the other. The next day when checking out, the lady that helped me apologized for the difficulties and said it never should've been this complicated to get me checked in. I feel bad for all the guests that didn't have AC. The pros of this place is the location. Absolutely great views and right on the water. The property needs significant updates inside and out which they seem to be working on. This place has potential to be great. I was concerned about road noise but never heard any while in the room.

We were asked to leave because our dogs were briefly off leash the night we arrived. My partner had an accident in the cramped quarters and got a black eye. In the commotion, our golden retriever got out while he was going to the car to get ice. When we realized he was missing and opened the front door, he was sitting there waiting. The next morning, we were walking our dogs from the unit to the car on the property, looking for their leashes, when the park manager, Deidre, confronted us about the leash rule and said our dog had been "all over the small park" the night before. We tried to explain what had happened, but she was unnecessarily confrontational and focused on the fact that we had "broken the rules." She also considered it another violation that we had stepped out from our unit to the driveway of our rented home without leashes. After several minutes of being scolded while we were outside trying to leave, she said, "I am not trying to be a hard ass." At that point, we told her she was definitely going overboard. I could not change what had happened the night before; I could only leash the dogs going forward. In frustration, I cussed and asked what the actual penalty was so we could stop having a confrontation on our vacation. She returned within the hour, knocked on our door, and told us, "The penalty is to leave." She added that if we did not leave, she would call the police. We packed up and complied. Frankly, I was not upset about leaving because we did not like the accommodations and had felt stuck with a three-night stay we had already paid for. On our way out, we stopped at the office to discuss the unused nights. Deidre arrived, intercepted the conversation, refused a refund, told us to leave, and said she was calling the police a second time. What shocked us most was that Deidre tried to keep payment for nights we did not stay. We worked through Airbnb and ultimately received the refund against Diedre's wishes. Future guests should know this is an RV park, not the waterfront resort experience the listing suggested to us. We found a real beachfront place down the road for much less money.

We usually visit the Northern Beach (Seaside) and enjoy it very much, but our visit to the South was extremely pleasant. We made reservations ahead of time at The Rogue River Landing in Gold Beach. We were greeted by the owners Bernard and Sahar Ortiz and their quiet but lovely daughter Alex. They treated us just like family and did everything they could to make our stay pleasant and most of all comfortable. They succeeded greatly at both. We stayed in the King of the Hill unit and our Grandkids stayed in the unit next to it. Talk about beautiful scenery and plenty of wildlife. We woke up the first morning to four wild turkeys gobbling under our bedroom window. There were plenty of Eagles, Osprey and deer. Also some very friendly Blue Jays and one particularly friendly swallow that flew into our living room as we left the doors open to enjoy the cool breeze and fresh mountain/ocean air. The swallow was released without harm after a short photo session. The boys went out on the ocean and had a great time and caught some outstanding fish. Now we're home and going to enjoy some fish taco's The accommodations at Rogue Landing are very well kept, clean and comfortable. A visitors happiness is indeed top priority for the Ortiz Family and we greatly appreciate all that they did to make our stay very memorable. We got a tour of how things are going and truthfully, this is going to be THE PLACE to eat in the area. Bernard is personally finishing the tops of the tables and they are gorgeous. The restaurant has views of the river that are breathtaking. We are contemplating returning for the restaurant opening so we are going to watch The Rogue River Landing website. (https://wwwrogueriverlanding.com) We took the advice of Bernard and Sahar to travel the thirty minutes to Brookings for more choice of food and shopping. Bernard passes his free time which I can see he doesn't have much of to handcraft knives. He has a great selection and they are for sale. He is friends with one of the knife makers on Forged in Fire and he produces quality knives. I highly recommend The Rogue River Landing for fishing, sightseeing or just sitting back and relaxing. The evenings were quiet, dark and very peaceful. I cannot overemphasize the great time we had and will most assuredly be returning. Great price for ocean front room with balcony great fireplace inside room perfect to relax after…read moreday hike ocean sound and fireplace

Where to begin…read more.. Booked our 22 anniversary there scheduled to arrive 8/28/25. The room according to the website is available at 4pm, which I have never heard of this late a check in time, but my wife had stayed there in the past and wanted to go. So, I call about 2:30 to see if we can check in, "nope, it is still being cleaned." OK, we stall until 4. 1. 4:17 after waiting 17 minutes on other guest and try and check in and the room is still not ready. 2. 4:35 "oops, the room is not unclean it is double booked. "no problem we will find you something even if we have to upgrade." 3. 4:50 here is an upgraded room w/ a fireplace, it is supposed to not be pet friendly but we will make it work. We set off to the new room, unpack out things, climb to the second floor only to discover the room has one bed instead of 2. 4. 4:55, go back, wait in line and inform them it won't work while my family is waiting in the parking lot w/ all our stuff. While I was standing in line 4 other people in front of me are there for various complaints, key card won't work, double booked and someone is in the room, 1 bed instead of 2, gal allergic to dogs in put in a pet room, etc. 5. 5:30 they have scrambled and talked to various employees trying to find a room, the check in employee is not from there and not familiar w/ the rooms. 6. 5:40 the new employee discovers the room building we were originally booked to move in has several rooms open which she could have given me at 4:17, but she didn't know the layout. 7. While I am waiting, she offers me the free breakfast, "Great what is it?" " I don't know she states. "Is the spa up and running I ask." "No that is not working." Later the staff told me the spa hasn't been opened in months and corporate won't change the website. 8. 5:50 we move all our stuff from the one originally given to our new room. We finally get in the room at 6pm. 9. The room... Have to give kudos where they are due in order for it to be a good review. Spacious, nice new mirrors, vanity/sink area is large and the bathroom is nice but it ends there. 10. 6pm we finally settle in the room. We find the pillows are only 1.5-2" thick, wrap 4 layers of cardboard in a towel and you get the idea. so my wife sends my son off to the original room to find the personal pillow they had left behind. He found the gal who was allergic to pets in the same room we had already brought our pet into. 11. Towels are so thin and dingy they are identical to what I use in my shop as rags. Coffee pot doesn't work. Toilets flush, but you need to hold down on them for 30 seconds and you have a 50/50 chance of it flushing completely. Minimal but a bed reading light is out. So much for first impressions. 12. The heat was stuck at 78d all night and we couldn't lower it, sweated all night until maint, found it didn't work in the am. Only thing to do was to turn it off. 13. The "Ocean View" is looking over a parking lot, then a large area of a broken down, beat up building that looks like it should be destroyed which is the spa area. The spa area about 30' long and 12' high making the primary view below the ocean. You can see the ocean over the top of it, not bad view but completely disrupted by the decrepit spa building. Maintenance told us of the 3 spas there, all had broken at various times in the past and none were working but the corporation owning the hotel wouldn't spend any money on it. 14. They have a balconies including chairs and a table but are so narrow if you sit in the chair anyone passing has to turn sideways or the person in the chair has to turn their legs like in a movie theater. Not as bad, but close. If someone is carrying luggage, forget it, the sitting person has to stand up. 15. 8 am. The maintenance crew start work on the floor above us, so much for sleeping in 16. Midday, we have to move our cars in the parking lot as they are spray painting. 17. Every guest I talked to there had a complaint of one sort or another. The guest next to us had urine stained carpet that smelled of urine. 18. I complained to the manager the next day and she was very nice, patient etc. citing new employees as the challenge. She even comped me a room for one night. To be honest she was quite pleasant and apologetic about the whole affair. All the staff were really nice, but not one staff member had anything positive to say about the management of the hotel. The hotel has great potential. A great location, great access to the beach, the view of the spa building could be pleasant if it was kept up but not as is. The breakfasts were biscuits and gravy, next day eggs and potatoes. Pretty good for a smaller hotel, unfortunatley they ran out by 9am. Can't change the balconies but buy some pillows and towels, clean the rooms, fix the spa, prepare enough breakfast for what you have booked and hire someone who knows how to book and is familiar w/ the hotel. Paint on the outside wouldn't hurt either. It is not nice or pretty.

But it's totally not worth 85 a night. PROS: Nice newer laminate floor Heater works quickly Hot water in bath Handy parking Free ice Nice owner CONS: Mold thick in the window sills, around the shower Dirty room Thin walls allow all sounds to come in, road, conversations, etc, be careful what you say Horrible lumpy hard bed Worn out pillows No breakfast of any sort Free coffee was bad Wifi never worked No AC Prison grade toilet paper Creepy guys sitting around watching you in the parking lot Comically bad build quality Security cameras EVERYWHERE! (Guess they need to watch the creepy guys) Beat up furniture Curtain appeared to be some sort of wetsuit material, hung on electrical conduit rod screwed into a plumbing connection $41 bucks a night? Sure, if you're okay with the downsides, and don't mind endless road noise and neighboring room conversations. $85 bucks a night? Ha ha, you're kidding, right?
