I hate to be mean, but we were terribly, terribly disappointed in our room. There were just too many flaws to list without sounding ridiculous. The room smelled funky and was tiny, although there was still space enough for two bedside nightstands, instead of the one provided. Why not two? There was one duplex outlet for the bed, which held the table lamp and clock. Again, why not two? The only other outlet was loaded for the mini-fridge, microwave and TV. (This was fine in 1952, I'm sure, but it does not work in the age of devices that need power - laptops, cell phones, cpaps, etc. At least add a multiplex with a couple of USB ports - please!) The bedroom and bathroom were very, very dark. Two of the three bulbs in the bathroom were burned out. There was mildew in the shower grout and around the sink. The was a tiny table in the bedroom under the TV, which was all that guests were given for bedroom counter space (no dresser). One small, padded metal table chair. The shower soap dish was installed upside down, which we have seen elsewhere, so it must be intentional (shower soap/shampoo/etc. must be placed on the floor). The bathroom mirror was in poor condition. The front door was severely rusted, and the deadbolt was sealed and inoperable. I could go on and on and on, but as mentioned, it begins to sound ridiculous. Given the location, this hotel could and should be better. Again, very disappointing. read more

I rented a Room at the Pacific Reef Motel for 2 nights. When I checked in I didn't think the Room that I had matched the reviews I had seen but it was still fairly decent. Today I want on a jet boat tours expecting the room to be serviced with towells and linens changed, garbage cans emptied, and the room coffee pot cleaned. When I return at 4:00 p.m. I saw that absolutely nothing had been done to the room. No new towels, garbage cans full, coffee pot not cleaned, and the room not cleaned up at all! I spoke with the woman at the front desk who told me that stayovers did not get their room serviced whatsoever! She told me this was due to staffage shortage. I was never told of this upon check in and I didn't even know what a "stayover" meant. I don't understand why "stayover" clients should be treated as lessors than those that spend one night. I gave them a guaranteed 2 nights of rental income! This shows me a total lack of customer service and appreciation for someone who books multiple nights!! So I had to go to the office, get clean towels, get more coffee condiments, empty my own garbage cans, and dispose of the dirty towels! I don't recall signing up to be on their payroll! Needless to say with lack of service like this, I wouldn't recommend that anyone stay one night let alone 2 nights!! read more

Pretty disappointing after reading some glowing reviews. Upon arrival at 5:15 pm the door into front desk had a sign reading be back soon. After a 5 minute wait a young lady walked out of an adjacent door and without speaking walked past and headed up the street. 10 minutes later she returned , opened the door and let us in knowing she had ignored us earlier. Not a good start for our 2 day stay. The outside of the buildings we're very nice but as far as our room it all ended there. Upstairs 1/2 of what once a full condo was a room now called condo2. Met by very dirty stained carpet that smelled really bad. The room was large but sparsely furnished with king bed with very light blanket and no other blanket available. Pillows on king bed were not appropriate for the bed. More throw pillow size. There was a large chest of drawers but Not a chair or table in the room And only one luggage rack. Other Suitcases kept on the floor. Closet had 4 hangers for 2 people Pictures on the wall were crooked and two same size pictures hung side to side were mounted 1 inch lower than the other show lack of attention. The upstairs room did have a nice ocean view and good line of site to an overrated outdoor video presentation. Might appear I'm overly critical but for $185 a night with tax I expected more. We got one of the condos with the ocean view. The murphy bed was a little unusual (you had to pull it down from the wall), but the room was clean, and it was so nice to have a kitchen. It's not quite oceanfront--you can see the ocean off in the distance--but it was a pleasant place to stay overall. There was an indoor jacuzzi, and the "light show" will no doubt entertain small children (it was mostly a long video selling tourism to Gold Beach, followed by clips of Sound of Music with choreographed lights). Overall, I found this room very comfortable, clean, and a good value for the price. read more

Great little hotel in gold beach. The beach front rooms are really nice....great views of the coast, and sunsets. Super nice, modern, and clean. The rooms have a "Murphy bed" which is a bit funny, but they are super comfortable. The hot tub was not working when I was there, which is a bummer. The rooms by the lobby are not nearly as nice as the beach front ones. The video they play at 830, is actually really enjoyable...i suggest catching it. read more

I wasn't expecting anything what I ended up getting. Let's just get to the Pro's and Con's. PROS: Super friendly, quick and easy check-in, AWESOME high speed internet, nice walk to the beach. Flat screen tv. Clean rooms. CONS: Super old room. Super musty smell. No circulating air. Everything creaked or squeaked like the floor, bed, doors etc.... Thermostat did not work. Mold on the ceiling. It's really not worth getting a cheaper room here, you won't be able to sleep at night. read more

Reason the the three stars is that this hotel is in need of a refurbishing. Opening the door to our room I noticed the hotel needed a paint job. In our room their were many signs of ware and tare on the walls and floor. I will stay here again, hoping they put some money into a update of the property. read more

Stayed here mainly because of the reviews on this site and was not disappointed. Front staff was very helpful in all regards from things to do, places to see, and where to go eat. They even told me about places in other cities up the coast. Incredibly warm people working here. I was in one of the condos and I have to say, the kitchen is nicer than my one at home. All stainless steel appliances, pots and pans, glassware, and cutlery. Marble counter tops. Large flat-screen TVs downstairs and upstairs. Even a washer/dryer including the soap. Stayed here during a move up the coast and overall had a positive experience! Dinged a star because the employee who checked me in at the front desk wasn't wearing a mask, and because the laser light show was a tiiiiiny bit of a letdown. When we called for more info during booking, a staffer told us the show ran between 6 and 8pm, but it was a 15 minute ad for Gold Beach (informative, but we were already there!) and then 15 minutes of clips from Mamma Mia - not the two hour extravaganza we were expecting! Even still, we had good fun, and the room was clean and quiet, which was really the main thing we were looking for. read more

I stayed here for 2 nights, in the economy room and it was ok. It was by no means a bad stay, but I wouldn't call it memorable either. The room was clean, comfortable, and it was close to the beach, No view. Customer service was good. The bbq place across the street was excellent. Their light show was underwhelming and a waste of time. However, this is coming from someone who usually parties in Las Vegas... So I could just be hard to please. It would make more sense for them to show an actual movie, especially since movie theaters are closed down due to Covid-19. It would be nice to have "movie night" out there. Anyways.. We book this room at the last minute as we were driving down the Oregon coast. We lucked out and got one of the top stories in the two-story condos.. We were very pleased with our broom. It's spacious and comfortable. The bathroom is very nice. The staff is friendly and it's very cool as they have put up a large rear projection screen behind the hotel on the beach. We got to watch a 20 minute short movie on the Oregon coast complete with sound. It was a fun experience sitting on our back porch watching the movie. We would definitely stay here again. We were here at the off-season in October so the price of about $100 was a great deal. The condo is ideal if you have two families traveling together one can stay up and one down but they are connected by a hallway that would keep it private just for your two groups. read more

This hotel/motel is really unique--not your ordinary chain. They have different price points for different rooms, thus people have different experiences. Our room was pretty basic, but very clean, pet friendly and with an ocean view. Loved that there was no carpet and had cute rocking chairs on our own patio! We did have an ocean view, which means at 9:00 pm we also had a view of the lighted grounds and the large screen show. I can see how some people may not like the ABBA movie clips--but combined with the Oregon coast video it makes for some evening entertainment :) Will stay again... read more

All in all, this is an okay hotel. The staff was friendly, our room was clean and quiet, we had a view of the ocean, and the bed was comfortable. The walk to the beach is a nice one, and the outdoor theater is downright unique. However: The view of the ocean is unobstructed, though it is constrained. The small patio has high walls to block off neighbors, so the view is limited when in the room. There is one tiny heater for the entire room, which has high ceilings, so the room never got warm (in January). There were no comfy chairs, just two uncomfortable upright chairs for a small table. One of the highlights of the stay, and this was pure chance, was the toddler in the next room twanging the door stop. We could hear its delighted giggles through the wall. read more

Stayed here over a weekend getaway and we were both very happy! We got the smallest room, but it was the cheapest one with an ocean view. It is very small, but comfortable enough for two people. We were basically only there to sleep anyway. The room was very clean and seemingly well maintained. Only two small gripes. The room is in full sun all afternoon so it got pretty hot in there with no A/C. the shower is the smallest one I have ever seen and I was in the Navy. Pretty much for PTA showers only as you can't bend over much. Ask around if you don't know what a PTA shower is. :P The location is great and the hot tub is super nice! It is in it's own building with a bathroom and shower right there. There might be a sauna behind a locked door, but I couldn't tell for sure. They have DVDs in the office for free checkout and there is a $10 off deal for the Chowder House. I would definitely stay here again! read more

Every visit brings a new delight, and this time I got to view all the rooms, the remodel, the expansion, and watch my grandsons romp the windy but wonderful beaches in search of the "glass balls". What fun! A city-wide promotion to encourage even more fun for visitors... this place is a slam dunk if you're looking for something a cut above. Our condo was extraordinary - two story; complete granite/stainless kitchen, laundry facility, computer center, high quality furnishings and two ocean view balconies. Sparkling clean as usual --- I really love that about this place! It's always sparkling and pride shows all the way through the staff. They're actually "happy" to be working. Nice for a change. Even the budget rooms are lovely. Completely remodeled and freshly decorated, and at unbelievably low prices! From apartments to budget rooms, to beach-side condos... there's even a private A-Frame house closer to the beach with an adorable little loft perfect for a couple or small family (even your family pet). Rooms with spectacular views... not hard to come by at Pacific Reef Resort. A+ all the way! We'll definitely go back for more! read more

This is a cute little place. I stayed in one of the "economy" rooms, and that did not feel like a 3.5 star hotel as it's rated (how do they come up with these star ratings?). Despite its name, the property is motel style - no interior corridors. However, the place was well maintained and clean. I had no problems. The room I had was two queens and they were actually in separate rooms, which was pretty cool. And they do give you the nice towels even if you're in economy. You can spend more for an upgraded room here, so if you want some more comfort, that's probably the thing to do. But I got a good price on their value room and had no complaints. Well, the bed was a little firm and I tossed and turned during the night, but otherwise it was a quiet, comfortable place (in November). I'm sure this is a fun place n the middle of summer. They have an enclosed hot tub, but no pool. They show movies outside in a theater they've created, which looked pretty neat. It is an ocean-facing property though a bit of a walk down to the beach. It's real pretty though, through the dunes. Check in was super swift - and a little old school. They have actual keys, not keycards. Room had microwave, coffee maker, and a good-sized fridge (though I had to turn it off to sleep at night as it was pretty noisy). Surprise delighter: For breakfast they give you a $10 credit for the restaurant next door and it was quite good. Overall, I think this place is worth a stop. Enjoy the beach! read more

From the moment my road weary husband and I got to the office, we were treated like family. This is a beautiful place to stay in a fantastic location close to nature, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. we couldn't believe how fairly priced our accommodations were...full kitchen, living room with pull out (comfy!!) bed and deck with rocking chairs overlooking the ocean. I expected more for my $250 per night before taxes. The carpet was absolutely disgusting. Even my outdoorsy husband wouldn't walk on it barefoot. The bottom part of the entrance door , on the inside, was all rusted and falling off. The floor and door molding around the bathroom was all chipped and peeling. The rest of the room was very tired looking. Only reason I'm giving it a 2 star is because the view from our balcony was beautiful. read more

We stayed at one of the new condos on the property and our room was very nice. We had a view of the ocean and it was tastefully decorated. The downside side was the noisy movie screen advertising Gold Beach or basically the Rogue River jet boat rides directly across from our room from about 9:00-10:00. The presentation went on for an hour blaring loud enough for anyone within miles to hear it. Imagine what it was like to have your room right across from it! Ear plugs and pillows couldn't buffer the noise. The manager was very nice and let us cancel our next night's reservation. We couldn't believe what a great price this was for the great view, and the GREAT rooms!!! Everything was updated and the staff was really friendly. The hot tub looked really clean and nice as well as really the whole property. Would definitely recommend and stay if we came back! Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is bc of the hours. My husband and I are driving up the coast from California to Oregon and Pacific Reef Resort was our first stop on the trip. What a beautiful place! The outside of the resort isn't much to look at, but the staff is very friendly, the rooms are clean (we got the $89 queen standard room), and the place is right on the beach! The beds were comfortable - no AC- but you really don't need it when you open the windows to let the ocean breeze in. The property is quiet, there's a hot tub on site (we didn't get a chance to use it) and the restaurant (the Chowder House) gives you a $10 credit for breakfast! Talk about a beautiful place to stay! We woke up to a gorgeous view of coast, right outside of our hotel room. The hotel itself wasn't terrible - we had a spacious queen suite for one night / two days. The room didn't feel clean (stains, odd smells and smudges on the countertops / walls), but the bed, bathroom and living space did its job. Gold Beach was a convenient stop on our Oregon Coast road trip. It was a day's northbound drive from Mendocino, CA. When we arrived in the evening we were immediately greeted by a friendly person at the front desk. Check-in was effortless, and we found parking near the room, so, in just a few minutes we were unpacked and relaxing from our long day. The room was well appointed with microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker. The bed was very comfortable with high quality linens. There were ample bath linens of nice quality. The tub/shower was clean with good water pressure. The wifi was free and robust enough to watch videos. Breakfast was not included, but we were told if you show your room key at the neighboring restaurant you receive a credit on your bill. We opted out based on restaurant reviews, so an on-site breakfast would have been appreciated. read more

This was the fifth or sixth time we've stayed in one of the 2-story condos--- if you can afford it, DEFINITELY get one of these units. Downstairs is a full kitchen, living room, and murphy bed. Upstairs is a huge bedroom. Each level has its own flat screen, full bathroom, fridge, and coffee maker. Temp controls are simple and accurate.The kitchen is especially great--- if you're staying for more than one night, the extra money you spend is money you can save by not going out to restaurants for every meal. Front desk staff is friendly and efficient--- no complaints. The beach is an easy 200 yard walk from the building. If I had any complaints, they have nothing to do with the hotel and everything to do with other guests. People... I don't care if you like to smoke weed (after all, this IS Oregon), but move away from the building so your smoke doesn't drift directly into our screen door. Also, the folks on the other side of us were traveling with what sounded like at least 47 screaming children. It's the first time we've noticed any noise here, but if the walls were 12 feet thick, made of solid lead, I have a feeling we still would have heard them. Another great stay at Pacific Reef Resort--- highly recommended. read more

I booked a room in one of the ocean view rooms based on the reviews and the pictures on the hotel website. I was very disappointed when I checked into my room. It was super small and looked nothing like the room pictures on the website. They also didn't have a roll-away bed for my daughter to sleep on. I asked if I could be moved to a better room and they were able to put me in a condo room, which was only $50 more, but only for one night (my reservation was for 2 nights). The condo was really really nice. Looked brand new, very nice kitchen, bedroom, and spacious living room. The only thing wrong with the condo was the carpet was in desperate need of being washed or replaced. Looks like it's never been cleaned. Stains everywhere, very unpleasant to look at. Since they couldn't put me in the condo for the second night, I ended up canceling the remainder of my reservation and went to a different hotel for the second night. read more

However, there was really nothing "cheap" about it. You're getting a quality room, a great view, and everything was very clean. 3. Rather than having a barely edible spread that passes as breakfast, they give you a voucher to eat at a restaurant nearby. For my wife and I, the voucher was $10, which covered the majority if our breakfast. The french toast was excellent and the eggs were delicious. 4. Great view of the coast from the room, if you opt for an ocean view Con: The front desk closes at nine so if something comes up after nine, you're out of luck. I understand not wanting to staff the place 24/7, so I'd recommend having someone on call for emergencies. Also the vending machines are broken. This normally wouldn't be a big deal except for that fact that there's not much around late at night. Nevertheless, I'd gladly return here. read more

Pacific Reef Resort wasn't our first pick. In fact, it was our third. We thought we could be a little more fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pantsy on this trip. Wrong. Ocean front vacancies were not easy to find in Gold Beach. However, the nice lady on the phone at Pacific Reef informed us that they had ONE left. Lucky us! The people who checked us in were as friendly as could be, plus free chocolate chip cookies! The room was a very nice size and we appreciated the modern touches (tv/wi-fi). So the ocean view...lovely? Absolutely! Under construction? Unfortunately, yes. We were awoken bright and early both mornings by loud machines. The view was also a bit obstructed. My only other negative is that we weren't given new washcloths the second day. I'm happy to help save energy by reusing bath towels, but my washcloth had fallen on the floor so I was hoping it would be replaced. Also, the first day I was ecstatic to find a make-up remover towelette with the hotel soaps/shampoos. This is a huge convenience for the ladies. Unfortunately, that also was not replaced the second day. Very small negatives for this resort. I would definitely return! read more
