Had a private trip on our boat. Our group of guys limited on salmon and scraped up some lings/bass for 3 days straight, we had limits early and brought our fish in to be packaged. A couple guys in our group were tasked with getting the packaging figured out. They were yelled at, disregarded, and told "our boat is coming in soon so we'll do yours when we get to it". The only person who helped answer a question was one of the guys cutting, the lady up front was nothing short of unprofessional. By the time we got fish back half of the packages had a broken seal. I understand they have a sign advertising fish cutting, if you only want to treat your charter clients then I'd suggest taking your sign down. Myself as well as the group of guys I was with are lifetime fisherman with a large network of people, we will not be recommending this charter or their additional services to anyone. Within an hour of getting back home I pointed a buddy of mine to coho charters and told them to have their fish packed at tre fin specifically because of this experience. read more

At first deckhand and captain seemed friendly, though it would be a fun relaxed trip. Once fishing started completely different story. They would yell at anyone that a got a bite and even take the rod out of your hand if you weren't doing it exactly how they want you to. I understand they know better, but paying that much for a charter I want to catch it. It wasn't like they were rooting for you to catch the fish, just wanted hit boats limit as quick as they can. They net the fish before you even get a chance to look at and throw it in a freezer. All fish goes in the same box don't know who caught what. Couldn't be more obvious the crew wanted to finish as fast as possible, felt like the captain wanted you to work for him and not an enjoyable trip. read more

We took my father out on his first trip to the famous Buoy 10 fishery in Astoria, OR. We booked a Salmon trip in the Columbia River with Pacific Salmon Charters. The cost was $125 per person. We had a party of seven and were assigned to the Wind Ward with Captain Randy and deck hand Ben. We were so looking forward to the trip. Unfortunately, Captain Randy soon informed us that the salmon fishing was simply very poor at best at the moment. He told us the boat with the best catch the previous day had only caught 2 salmon. Captain Randy explained that this year's Salmon run was very weak and not even close to projections. We fished for 8 hours and caught 1 keeper. We hooked up to about 5 fish total. We were disappointed to say the least. However, Captain Randy and Ben did everything they could to get us on the fish. Overall we had a great time. read more

This was my third trip with Pacific Salmon Charters. The bar jigs that were catching all the ling cod were never available to me despite several requests. Even the owner was using one and other people who seemed to be regular customers used the bar jigs the whole trip. I caught no ling cod. The boat was nice but I ended up not catching the fish I wanted. We were late leaving the harbor. It was an expensive trip for such bad service. I will use another fishing charter next time. read more

We had family who wanted to do a combo trip - bottom fishing and salmon, so we signed on with Pacific for their $200 trip (4 of us) - my wife said they advertised boat capacity of 10. Check in was great, friendly. Boarding the Westwind, we find out there's 14 in the boat. That means some pretty cramped fishing. Only 1 deckhand. We go 24 miles out [90 minutes?] and stop for the bottom fishing - the captain specs out how far to let our lines out (#passes of the reel). We catch some rockfish, but my family members also want ling cod, and lings are near the bottom, and we know how to fish them. We start dropping all the way down and coming up a bit...pretty soon we're hauling in lings, and drawing jealous glares from the others. The sole deckhand did magnificent job keeping up with 14 fishers, but she also had the unpleasant job of using the descending device to send yelloweye back to the bottom...and there were quite a few. Eventually the boat limited on rockfish (everyone gets a limit to take regardless of who caught it) but we 4 also had 2 lings each, the real treasure. We spent another hour getting back to salmon grounds, and the whole boat only bagged 3 salmon total - the 4 of us got skunked...because of the large number of lines there was a lot of tangles. Slow..... I was unhappy the skipper didn't move on to another spot - NO other boats were anywhere near us. I'm waffling on 2 or 3 stars. We did get fish. Unhappy they didn't advise on how to catch ling, the more than advertised fishers, and just 1 deckhand. I wouldn't do another combo trip. Their fish filleting operation was inexpensive ($22 for 14 rockfish/4ling) - I chose to do my own vacuum packing. read more

I've never been on a Halibut charter that limited by 10am with under 20 pound chickens for all 11 of us and didn't go for some rock fish afterwards. Caught one Black cod. Not worth the $300 bucks plus tip, plus gas, plus cut and wrap. Deck hand was a hard worker, and Captain as well, but really? Won't be recommending this charter to anybody. Might as well go drive a little farther and run out of Depot Bay, Oregon. read more

The combo salmon & bottom fishing trip is a bad joke. To many people fishing on the boat made for tangled lines. We have experience both salmon and bottom fishing. Salmon fishing was pretty much tolling back to port. The pole were set for you ,so basically if you happened to get a salmon you got to real it in (not much like real fishing). We got 3 salmon on the boat with 15 fishing the boat. We never made a second pass back through the two spots we caught fish, just steamed on for home. Filleting and vacuum sealing was $37 for the little bit of bottom fish we had. The all day trip wasn't really much longer than the othe bottom fishing trip that went out. It's back to Garibaldi for for us. Great place to go if you don't know how to fish and want some one to do it for you,or your looking for a good boat ride. Nice people in the office though. read more

Would I go again probably. But we're upgraded our boat so chances are no! In our group of 4 we caught 25 fish, but only 4 were hatchery (keepers). Lots of lost fish by others, so our boat did not get our limit. The Captain was really great, but the deck hand was kind of slow, so we did a lot of the baiting on our own because we know what were doing. He lost a few fish for people by either not getting the net on time, waiting back too long or bumping It off. We had the largest group (paying the most) so when there were 2 extra fish from other limits that were already reached, we took one. Wish they would do that themselves as a crew, so It wasn't awkward, but when you pay $600 vs someone who payed $130, that is only right. One guy caught 0 fish losing everyone he had maybe 4/5 and walked away with 2 fish because he knows a worker there. Just kind of weird. Still very fun day, first time we haven't got our limit at the ocean, so would probably try and different boat next time. Good luck & keep em tight! read more

Went in a party of 4 with Pacific Salmon Charters. Caroline was wonderful booking our charter and answering our numerous questions before we flew from Texas to Oregon. We fished for salmon. We fished on the 27' Sarah Kay with Captain Brian and First mate Patrick. I think there were 10 fishermen on the boat. There was plenty of room for all of us to fish without getting in each other's way. We didn't have particularly good weather. Moderate wind, moderate swells, and 1/8 mile visibility going out. We fished about 7-8 miles past Cape Disappointment in about 200 feet of water. From the moment we started fishing until everyone on the boat caught their limit we were catching salmon. Most were not legal so we released. My party of four took home 2 Chinooks and 6 Coho. Captain Brian said the fish would be larger later in the summer. As far as I recall, only one person on the boat became seasick. Captain Brian worked hard to make sure everyone on the boat caught their limit and more importantly had a good time. Our party of 4 used Pacific Salmon's fish processing service. They gutted the fish on the boat (for the cost of the trip) and then filleted the fish, vacuum sealed them, and flash froze them to -25 degrees F. We picked up a hard sided cooler in Portland, 5 lbs of dry ice and brought them back to Austin TX. They were still just as cold when we got home as when we picked them up from Pacific Coast Salmon Charters. We had no negative surprises on the trip. We were treated very well and everyone we had contact with at Pacific Coast Charters was friendly and enjoyable to be around. This was my first time salmon fishing and I hope it isn't my last. I will very likely come back to Pacific Coast Salmon Charters if the next time I go fishing is in Ilwaco, WA. read more

The captain of the west wind has to be one of the rudest people I know. Captain Dave, extremely arrogant and belittling to his deck hand. Not to mention that we paid for the trip only to be scolded all day by the captain. Not reeling fast enough, reeling to often, casting our own cast, tangling the lines, not getting out of the way. I'm too old to pay for a day of fishing that is suppose to be fun only to be scolded all day. I chose to put humor to it as not only did I pay for my trip but I work Commisson and took a day off. My family and I have used this charter for many, many, years. Usually we used the "Sea Venture" every year because we always had good experiences but since it is no longer operating my husband used the "Pacific Dream" and "Katie Marie". While his experience on the "Pacific Dream" was good; good deckhand, good captain, etc. The "Katie Marie" was a whole different experience. The captain was awful and rude. Yelling and cursing at everyone the entire time. The deckhand was only okay. Overall the charter service is pretty good but there is no excuse for a captain to treat customers so poorly- especially when they are spending so much to be there!! If we choose to go again in the future we will definitely use the "Pacific Dream" and avoid at all costs "Katie Marie". I recommend the same for others! read more

We booked a 4 hr salmon and 4 hr bottom well we spent the first 3 hrs looking for a spot then we bottom fished for 90 min but we did get are limit then we traveled again for 2 hrs looking for salmon we only got to salmon. Fish for 90 min waste of money your 8 hrs of fishing turns into boat ride so we only got to fish for 3 hrs total for both fish spends to much time traveling less time fishing you spend $200.14 to fish not travel so we spent almost $700.00 for 3 of us then I when the to buy 2 bags of ice with my debit the old gray hair lady said it would cost to much she wouldn't do it poor customer service and the deck hand was late we had to wait for him he over slept clock was ticking so if you want to fish go some where else for boat ride go there read more

I wish there was a way to give a zero star rating. Not only did their fish processing facility mess up our order they also insulted my friends and my intelligence. We fished Saturday with a charter boat that is not associated with their charter fleet (I can only imagine what a mess that is), but we thought they would gladly take our money to process the bloodline and bag the tuna we had caught that day. We probably should have left once the man and women running the show exclaimed "what is that?" and pointed to the cooler full of tuna loins... Once we explained to her that it was intact fish and did happen to come from the ocean, she had no idea how much to charge us, and the haggling began! Once said price was agreed on I felt a little unsure that she felt comfortable about the pricing, but after a long day of fish we ready to get back to the room and move on with our lives. Here's the scam.... The next day after a short salmon trip with our trusted guide we returned for the spoils of the day before, instead the woman from the previous day asked us "did you go on a charter boat?" We happy answer that we did (a trusted friend and long time guide) and she tells us that he must not have known what he was doing because our fish stinks and that it must not have been handled properly, and then tried to sell us a trip on one of their boats! Now someone who has not fished as many years as my friends and myself you might think "oh my gosh" these people are really trying to help this guy out so they don't get sick. Well here's the deal. I do know what I'm doing, and the guides I mentioned before know what they are doing, and the guys I'm with (all lifetime fishermen) know what they are doing, but most importantly why did they go ahead and process the fish? Why did you freeze it and not call us to come get the smelly fish out of your shop? When we asked to see it they brought out one bag of bellies that hadn't been packaged or frozen so we immediately inspected the still fresh belly meat which had no smell other than fresh tuna. So we asked how come this is fine? The lady working there said, "oh well the bellies are fine!" How are the bellies fine and the rest of the meat wasn't cooled properly? After some rather heated conversation we finally got them to bring out the rest of our fish (which was packed wrong) they asked my friend if he and our boat captain were interested in running boats for them!? Now I'm not sure what their end game was, but if I had to take a guess they wanted to steal our fish (not the bellies they were ok for us to take) and knowing how disappointed we would be, sell us a fishing trip on one of their "charter boats" there is no lower scum on the earth then a thief, and if you want to go fishing I would say anyone other than pacific charters! read more

I took my girlfriend out for her first time fishing in the ocean.we went on a half day bottom fish and half day salmon fishing.I must say in the 25 times ive been out fishing in the ocean that this was by far the worst trip ive ever been on... The captain took us to a place to bottom fish where we couldnt even keep ling cod first off so when I finally hooked one He informed me I had to throw it back.Pretty much ruined the whole trip since that was the main fish we wanted.Secondly we fished for bottom fish for 3 hrs and believe it or not the whole boat which was 10 people we only got 5 fish total for the whole baot.So insted of moving and trying to find the fish he fished the same spot for 3 hrs and we didnt hook shit.When I asked him why he didn't move he told me that it would cost to much in fuel!! Nice Huh!!! So then after a horrible time bottom fishing we start to fish salmon.Lucky for us and my girlfriend got the only 2 keeper salmon on the boat.I felt bad for the 4 kids on the boat who's grandpa spent $600 for a boat ride as they did not catch a single fish.Worse yet the captain didn't even seem to care...Or even offer a rain check. So needless to say I will never ever use,recomend or even think about going back to Pacific salmon Charters again and if I were you I would think twice and use anouther charter service.. FYI we went on a 50ft boat called the westward!! The only positive thing I can say is the deckhand on the boat was great and was very helpful to my girlfriend as he took the time to make sure she knew how and was confortable while fishing as she was very nervous about her first time out.I made sure to give him a nice big tip as it wasnt his fault the captian pretty much ruined our trip. Oh and I almost forgot we were suposse to fish til 3pm and he ended up going in at 12:30 me and my girlfriend felt like he just want to collect his money and get back in as fast as he could. I was soooo pissed and im still pissed about the trip especailly when we got back and seen all the other boats from differant charter services pulling limits of fish and there passengers where all laughing and smiling unlike our boat that had 10 very very disapointed people on it!!!!So heed my words and use anouther charter service.We didnt even get a apologie from the captain!!!!!! read more

They have a variety of boats for fishing various fish. The deck hands are quick and patient with novice passengers and can explain the subtleties to the more expert. The bait is fresh but if that is not working they have alternatives. With Teens I recommend Link Cod and Sea Bass in the early spring. Then without Teens go Tuna in August / September. It is a long day for Kids and No limit on Tuna ! read more

We are from Southern California and decided to hit up a fishing charter for some salmon this past Friday. The scenery was amazing. The weather was perfect, (besides a really choppy ride out of the harbor). We had an amazing time with 5 guys in our party, and another guy fishing solo. It was awesome we had the boat pretty much to ourselves. Having so few people on board is a far cry from we are used to fishing on the cattle boats in San Diego. We're used to people elbow to elbow, crossing lines, standing in the way, just making it miserable. The captain and deckhand were super cool. We caught our limit and headed back in. First boat back. It was also unusual for us to have a (biologist, fish/game?) greet us on the dock, scan the salmon for microchips, & then remove the snout. But even with the rougher seas, and the scanning at the end, we absolutely loved it, and will do it again when we come back up next year! read more

As the only women on the boat on 7/18/15, I was truly pissed the way I was treated by the deckhand and the captain. The deckhand grabbed my pole 3 times when I had strikes, when I told him that I don't want him to do that I came here to fish, he got defensive. I was doing everything right, it's not my first time fishing for gods sake. A little while later the captain yelled I'm the captain and grabbed my pole while I was moving out of the way of my brother catching a fish. Never with them again. I caught 3salmon. read more

We found the guys on the Pacific Dream to be rude. Wouldn't use them as a charter boat. Go with a different charter.

I don't recommend this Pacific cheaters for the following reasons. I pay for three people to go fishing on the ocean for salmon and when I get to the boat the captain ask me if I wanted to go bottom fishing? I told him that I pay to go salmon fishing in the ocean why would I want to go bottom fishing? He told me tha the ocean was close for salmon fishing and I ask him why nobody notified me and he said that the office people told him that everybody was notified but I wasn't otherwise I would it cancel. So I paid for salmon fishing in the ocean and I get salmon fishing in the Columbia river what a ripoff. I talk to the people on the office to ask them why I wasn't notified and the said they thought everyone was notified. She said she would call the owner and see what they could do for me. She call the owner and luckily she said I am so sorry for that, I thought we notified everyone but I can not do anything for you since you already did the trip. So I paid more than 400 dollar for a service and I got a totally different service a downgrade off course and never got notified and the reinvestment I got was a I am so sorry for a very unprofessional service on our behalf but I can't do anything for you because I already screw you. Long story short I would not recommend Pacific salmon charters in Ilwaco because they are very unprofessional and they don't care about their customers even when they screwup. read more
