What a better way to start your day than a 6am Hot Yoga? This studio has been in town for around 12 years. It began as an official Bikram studio. The last few years have new owners and they offer 60 and 90 minute sessions of Hot Yoga as well as Power and Ashtanga. Its great to be able to do a 60 minute class when time is limited. They have redone the studio and the new floors are great! All of the instructors are warm, welcoming and really keep me motivated to push myself and I somehow manage to smile while doing it :0) When life gets to busy for Yoga, thats when I know I really need to be there. came here on a Groupon 2 years ago when I was visiting from Dallas and remembered having quite the spiritual moment in class. It never left me. Fast forward to now I live in the Bay Area and after trying many various studios all over, my heart brought me back here. perhaps it's the music playing, the fresh ocean air you are breathing as you settle into the edges of your poses, pushing your mind and body to go further than your comfort zone and every once in a while the teacher reciting a quote from the Tao Te Chung reminding you of life's deeper meaning, I don't know but whatever Pacifica Beach Yoga is doing has made it the definitive studio for me in the Bay Area. Fresh cut fruit and juices in the back relaxation area, donations appreciated is also a nice touch. I took my first yoga class at Pacifica Beach Yoga over 10 years ago and have been hooked on Bikram and this studio ever since. I've practiced other types of yoga and while all yoga is good, Bikram is hands down my favorite. I want a stretch but I also want a workout. It tightens and strengthens and leans every part of the body without bulking up. The heat can be a bit intense at first but you will end up loving it and feeling better for it. And, it doesn't matter your age or fitness level. Everyone is doing the same poses but at their own pace and posture. Even after all these years, there are some poses that I do really well and others that I find more challenging. The journey makes it interesting. I've practiced in a lot of studios on the peninsula, in San Francisco and in other states, and Pacifica Beach Yoga is such a special place. The teachers are amazing. They are friendly and fun and always make you feel supported and encouraged for where you are that day. The other students also make you feel welcome, which is really nice because I've been to studios where you can instantly identify the "regulars" vs "newbies" and can often time feel out of place. There is a mental calmness and peace that this yoga brings. You learn to appreciate a deep breathe, which may sound simple and silly, but is pretty fulfilling in that moment. Don't be afraid of Bikram...anyone can do it and you will feel amazing after. Keep a regular practice and you will see noticeable differences in your mind, body and spirit. I started doing yoga to increase my flexibility. It worked and I'm making Bikram part of my regular workout. The studio is clean and the staff is friendly. The owner, Tommy, is very laid back and funny (not to mention good looking). He works hard to create a warm fun environment. Since doing Bikram is hard, being around cool people with good attitudes is important. They also have this cool patio in the back of the studio where you can chill out after your workout. I'm new to yoga and am so happy I found this studio. I've only taken the non-heated vinyasa flow class instructed by Lisa and she is such a great instructor! Lisa really works with each person to make sure every pose is done properly and she really motivates you to push yourself. I have been coming to This studio for many years and have seen many changes and improvements since Tommy and his team took ownership. This is a warm, safe, friendly place to practice yoga. The instructors are supportive, encouraging, and at times humorous, which makes the 'hot' experience enjoyable. Other positives include the awesome layout of the studio. It has been designed so that all people practicing can view themselves in the mirror (genius)!!! The patio with refreshments is incredible and consummate s the community feeling Tommy and staff desire. The instructors, including Tommy, are respectful of all clients, and everyone feels welcome and secure to practice at their own ability level. With all this said, I did take a year off of yoga, and came back a year ago. When my friend and I walked in it was like walking into "Cheers" everyone(staff and clients) said hi and were genuinely happy to see us. This solidified it for me. i went to this studio a few yrs ago, did not really care so much for the teachers, also did not want to stay in hot yoga 90 min. they now have 60 minute classes witch is perfect for me! the new owner (tommy) just added new classes and times! he just added the coolest patio in the back, you can serve yourself to coconut water, puts out fresh awesome strawberry & berry's. just an altogether nice way to end the class! i also find the prices very compatible to the other yoga studio's, maybe even a bit less. great location, easy to park. altogether just a great place. really nice people!! check it out on the 10 special! *** read more

Hot Yoga (and any other) is brand new for me, and I lucked out picking to begin at this studio. Tommy is very encouraging and there is no judgement. He and Chandra are constantly reassuring and I never feel as if I'm "behind". Rather, I'm always just where I should be. There's a patio in the back with a fire pit, and juice and fruit so people can hang out after class. I also appreciate them offering a 60 min Bikram since 90 min is sometimes a bit much. I have been practicing yoga for 5 plus years now and I have been to many yoga studios throughout the USA. Pacifica Beach Yoga is by far the most amazing place to practice yoga! Pby offers a wide variety of classes, easy parking out front, the studio is conveniently located by the freeway and they are always doing workshops to further your practice. The atmosphere of the studio is my favorite part, the energy the teachers and other yogi practitioners bring into the room creates such a strong unified feeling that you feel content and happy during your practice. Its a relaxing feeling like your at home with friends. This great atmosphere also continues outside of class where yogi students can enjoy complementary fresh fruit and juice in the lovley back patio area. The atmosphere actually has to be my second favorite part because the teachers at PBY are awesome to say the least. They are very informative and attentative, they don't forget about you which I really appreciate, sometimes teachers will make a correction on one of your postures one time during a pratice and never address it again in other classes. Which they do not. They make sure everyone that practices is taken care of which shows a lot about who they are as people. I really enjoyed this studio and plan to come back frequently . The studio is intimate and inviting After class there is a patio with fresh fruit and juices . As a beginner I felt the 60 min bikram class was appropriate , the instructors are knowledgable and teach you ways to modify and listen to your body when you become too hot or feel the movements are too much . The class is definitely judgment free zone which allowed me to feel comfortable and relaxed . There were beginners and very advanced practicers in the class but it all seemed to work in harmony . My daughter and I love this place! Tommy, the owner, was incredibly welcoming and encouraging when we first started. He shared his own personal struggles from his past and the way that yoga has changed his life - very inspiring. He teaches with enthusiasm. What a fabulous studio with a strong supportive community! Not just the instructors, but my fellow students as well. I have been practicing off and on for decades. With more time on my hands I wanted to make a bigger commitment to my practice. I visited various studios in San Francisco and finally committed to Pacifica Beach Yoga because it wasn't so strict in its practice that you would be scolded by the instructor, but rather encouraged and truly supported by the teachers. My wife and I both go to Pacifica Beach Yoga...we attend both Bikram style hot yoga and Vinyasa. Chill place, with very good, experienced instructors. The owner, Tommy, has always been nice to us and is equally good as the others. I am not certain why anyone would have an issue with him. All I can think is that maybe they are new to the postures and take feedback the wrong way. Every instructor has a different style, and they have several to choose from. I have been attending for almost a year and the feedback and correction to my postures help me improve a little each time. I feel really good after yoga which is why I keep doing it. It can be tiring after an hour or longer class, and I still cannot balance very well, but I have to think that it's good for my body and that the stretching is especially good. read more

Hi! I'm hear a year later since my last review of this beautiful retreat and favorite yoga studio. I'm still going strong in my practice and have only grown closer to Pacifica Beach Yoga. So much has changed and much has improved. The studio has beautified in so many ways...new awesome floors, façade remodel, new paint and it still has the same cozy feel of a neighborhood studio. I have to say the biggest motivation is the great friends I have made and also the most healing and supportive teachers. Tommy is not only a great friend but a great teacher. Always makes me feel as if I'm an important member, always remembers to reach out when I need encouragement in class, stays in tune with how everyone is doing in the room. It is always a challenge but having great teachers is what keeps me coming back. I want to thank the whole staff for striving to make this studio beautiful and comfortable and a welcoming place. I love the room at PBY. This is by far my favorite place to practice yoga. The cedar on the walls gives off a really nice scent which I find calming. The teachers are friendly and encouraging. I took a class this morning after being away for almost a year and was pleasantly surprised to see that they have added a lot more classes which accommodates my busy schedule . Been going to yoga at this studio off and on since opened intially as "Bikram Yoga". Lately there is some new management and a noticable difference with the vibe. The studio is kept clean and has a peaceful atmosphere. The instructors are all really good (Deb, Nee, Tommy, etc.). They all offer motivation to our practice. The classes are all Bikram or Power Yoga. Hope to continue with my practice at this studio and there are not too many changes (all for the good my hope) and they add more power classes !! read more

Haven't been going here for very long, but I already love it. It seems like they offer predominately heated classes, which can be intense -- sometimes uncomfortably so. But as someone who's been running for years and recently begun to look for a new challenge, I view the heat as a uniquely invigorating facet of the experience. Some teachers are better than others at working with newbies who need extra pointers. Really appreciated Jami today, who gave detailed correction on poses I didn't get right, but also positive feedback when I did. She pays a lot of individual attention to what each student is doing, seeing clearly what's going on in their bodies. The patio with fruit after class is also fantastic. read more
