We had adopted our Kody boy 8 months ago from a shelter. It was a very hard five months trying to get him settled with a routine. We all had different ways of how to train him and it was causing a rift in the family. I was turned down by some trainers until I came across Jonathan Wong's page. He was local, he was fast to get back to me and he was willing to give us a chance after everything I told him. Kody still has a long way to go and I will continue with Jonathan as his trainer, but it is night and day after three months of training with Jonathan. He was dog and people aggressive, to the point we had to avoid them entirely. We can now go for walks, albeit we move opposite of any dog and can keep walking without any barking or pulling. He was always actively pulling on the leash and bad at recall. He is loose leashed now and responds with recall with our daughter. In the end I had to get use to the idea that Kody was a crate or muzzle dog when it came to large crowds or people in our home. Jonathan was very, very good. My spouse and I found a puppy not to far from our house. The pup was hiding in a bush and upon pulling him out and knocking on various doors, posting on social media, and check if he was chipped, we concluded someone had just left this pup. After deciding to keep him and not knowing anything about dog training, we decided to look for some formal training classes. The group class at PetCo did not fair too well so private lessons were the next step, We had one assessment lesson and four lessons afterwards. We had seen Jonathan training another dog in our neighborhood and we are so glad we asked him for a business card! We adopted our dog from Milo in Point Richmond in August 2023. She's a corgi, pit bull, cattle dog mix named Jada and is missing an eye. She was found in the streets of Fresno and has a lot of reactivity issues. We worked with other trainers before who weren't the best for Jada's needs. We are so happy with Jonathan's training! He knew from the consultation that she wasn't mean, her bark wasn't threatening and her missing an eye plays a big part in why she is the way she is. I found Jonathan on Yelp one week after we got our 6 month old Pomeranian puppy, Hazel. I was concerned we weren't going to be able to keep the puppy, as I failed to realize how difficult it was going to be. We needed to work on potty training amongst many other things. I was overwhelmed. After the phone consultation, I was immediately relieved and felt reassured that we would be able to keep our sweet dog, given the tools that Jonathan would equip us with. He came to our house and after just one session, I felt so much more confident in what to do. He gave me and my family the tools we needed to be Hazel's leaders. We worked on crate training, potty training, social interactions, and basic commands. After every session Jonathan followed up with emailed written bullet points of what we had worked on. We had 4 private training sessions, including the evaluation in January and February of 2024 with Jonathan and our 4 year old mixed Lab, Neena. We adopted her during covid and had several positive reinforcement group training classes that worked for some basic obedience prior to meeting Jonathan. Neena joined our family when she was 1 and a half years old and had already been house trained but also had habits like jumping on people and pawing at them and it got only worse post pandemic as we had very little people coming over to the house. My partner and I were going back and forth on hiring a dog trainer for Floki, our doberman, and after many google/yelp searches, we decided Jonathan seemed like a good fit because he has a lot of experience with working dogs. After the first session, Floki's leash walking already improved tremendously on the prong collar and we have even started walking Floki through certain areas just on a flat collar. Another big thing that I wanted to work on was being more comfortable using the e-collar. Jonathan showed us how to find the correct setting and most importantly showed us the timing in saying the command and pressing/releasing the e-collar stimulation. We adopted our staffy/putbull mix, Ember, 1.5 years ago and although we had worked with a trainer over Zoom, we felt it was time to get some at-home training. Jonathan is amazing! I can't say enough great things about him. My parents have an 11 month old french bulldog Luna who goes everywhere with them. She has the basic commands down but her being a friendly puppy, every dog she came across she wanted to charge at, not out of aggressiveness but only because she wanted to play. Knowing not all dogs know that she is friendly, we needed help to stop that behavior especially taking her in public places. They also needed advice on how to stop her from charging at people walking by with dogs in front of their house while she sits outside in front with them. Again, only because she wants to play. This review is on behalf of my sister who went through Pack Leader's 5-week training program for our chihuahua & pitbull mix, Paxun: My dog is a pandemic puppy which originally WFH put me in a great position to train him during his prime developmental stage. With the transition back to in-person responsibilities, consistency with training was lessened and behavioral issues started to develop. We eventually decided to get him ecollar fitted as well to be sure he would be safe in the backcountry, and by the end of our 7th session with Johnathon, we were taking Archie out on long hike and runs in the woods completely off leash. Jonathan literally saved our dogs life and saved us from having to put our dog down. Jonathan taught us how to handle and train our Belgian Malinois because we did not know how to handle her and she was becoming very aggressive with our older German shepherd. Admittedly we gave our previous dogs very little training, just the basics so when this Malinois landed in our lives at 4 months we had no idea what we were in for. Things were fine with the Malinois at first she was getting along with our other dog and then all of a sudden she became very aggressive with our German shepherd and would get physically aggressive with him. It got so bad that they couldn't be in the same room together. We were at our wits end when we contacted Jonathan and he came and talked to us and did the evaluation and we signed up for an 8 week training program. During those 8 weeks he really trained us on the fundamentals of dog training and how to be better dog owners. Jonathan is punctual, patient and professional. We are in a much better place now thanks to Jonathan. We chose to continue onto the e-collar courses in addition to the 8 week training program, which was a game changer. Jonathan impressed me from the get-go with his thorough and comprehensive intake. His training is not "one size fits all". He really wants to know your dog and what you want to focus on. The training starts from wherever you and your dog are now and progresses steadily toward your goals. It's a huge bonus to do the work in your home, where you spend most of the time with your dog. As your dog progresses you can easily take the same lessons out to the back yard or the dog park, where there is much more distraction. Prior to going out of town, I reached out to Jonathan and Vivian and asked if they had space for my 3 dogs. Surprisingly they had enough room to take my pack. Prior to dropping the dogs off we spoke about the boarding experience, where they would be kept, and went over all of the paperwork and vaccination requirements. I loved the fact that everything was included with their boarding package, including 1-mile walks twice per day, playtime, and the boarding itself. The concept of boarding differs from one facility to the next and my preference was for an all-inclusive experience. They are professional and made sure my pack was well-cared for during my travels. I appreciated the updates they sent and being able to follow them on Instagram to check out photos of the dogs enjoying their time there. I contacted Jonathan to help with training our newly adopted Akita Mix. While we were still going back and forth to scheduling a time; I ended up needing to go out of town for a few days. In the past we boarded Abby in a traditional kennel at a veterinarian's office where she was confined to a crate, and at most, got one walk a day. When we would pick her up, she would be highly stressed, would bolt for the door, and would not be herself for a few days. We boarded Abby with Jonathan and Vivian for 5 days, and for once, we did not worry about how she would be cared for. In addition to getting walked three times a day, she had opportunity to get out of her crate and be in a home environment. She ate normally which was a relief because she didn't eat well at the kennel. To top things off, she was not stressed when we picked her up and she was actually more well behaved than when we dropped her off! Jonathan and Vivian taught us that dogs get their cues from us and that we need to lead Abby toward the behavior we want. I highly recommend Johnathan Wong as a dog trainer or dog whisperer as I like to call him. We brought our Pitsky (Pitbull Husky mix) to him in December fresh off of a very traumatizing experience with a board training program. We were told that our dog would never perform to our wishes and that our dog was very dangerous. So naturally we were skeptical when trying to select a new trainer. We did the in home sessions and from the very first consultation we were extremely happy with our decision. Jon was very caring with our dog Bandit he explained his process extremely well and gained the trust of both us and bandit immediately. Bandit was very happy on her training days and even sometimes wanted to train even more after John left. Jon taught not only bandit how to be a better dog but also taught us how to be better owners. The hardest part was potty training and Jon gave us great steps to build towards making bandit understand where to go and where not to go. I type this now with a fully potty trained dog who's just a little over a year old. If we had gone to Jon initially we would have been so much further along but he covers so much ground in his sessions.
