"Pet Food Express" - I expected it to only be about pet food when I first came! But this spot has everything your dog needs from food (not the prescription kind though), toys, accessories, clothes, treats, supplements, etc. and it has become my favorite bath time location for our large forever puppy! The way it works is you purchase a token at the cash register (I think there's a usual deal of buy 3 get one free). I believe 1 token is about 20 minutes total of wash/soap, rinse and dry. They've got 5 bathing stations and one of them has its own wall that's convenient for those dogs that just can't be too close to another dog. They supply you with everything you need - each station has it's own water hose that includes the shampoo (3 different options), they also supply extra shampoo if you need it, aprons, and clean towels. The staff keeps this area very clean and are pretty quick to cleanup the stations after people leave to get it ready for the next person. It's probably busiest during the morning and there could be long lines but so far I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes and luckily my dog is more patient nowadays. There is also an emergency button that can be activated in case a dog decides to get slippery and escape the tub! I haven't seen it used (thankfully) but I think it's designed to ensure all doors are closed so the dog can't get out of the building. My interactions with all the staff at different occasions have all been very positive. This was my first time using the washing stations and overall it was pretty good. The tethers are placed well, I liked the shampoo options, and having towels and aprons available is really cool. I will definitely be back. I showed up at opening on a weekday and was one of the first in the door. The staff were nice and helpful which was a plus! read more

Wow!!! I came here and spoke to Joseph, the Betta whisperer. And I'm glad. I got a tank from another store and had them check it because our biology teacher was concerned with all of this stuff leaching from the side and corners. It turned out the it was silicone that was keeping everything in. Joseph was full of info and that was great, because we are getting a Betta fish for my classroom. He was such a caring person as he walked me around the store and carried the tank. I do look forward to coming back for my betta, probably male, because that's what my students want. This was a contrast from Pet Food Express where they knew very little. Helpful and nice as they could be, but the guy there told me that PetSmart was closed. It was Easter and they weren't closed. I'd gone to the wrong store. Joseph even showed me the difference between the male and female bettas. It felt like the difference between going to a Home Depot vs Pasttime Hardware where people at the latter know there stuff. I do look forward to more visits here. Pet Food Express Here's something that I must profess Shopping here don't make me stress Jaime, on the under hand I do confess A rescue dog who's been under duress We take him here to get his boosters Shots, I mean...no pain or torture Get him vaccinated just like some fighting roosters They have mobile vets, just like a scooter Just make an appointment on your smart phone or computer Scan the QR code and wait for the needle shooter Located on Fitzgerald Dr. along the same strip mall as Ace Hardware, Grocery Outlet, Target and In-N-Out that you can see along the I-80 corridor, it's easy to get into with plenty of parking spaces. They even have a poo bag disposal and trash receptacle in front. It always comes in handy since the dogs like to handle their business by the grassy area on the side of the store. And just like other locations, they have 6 pet-washing area complete with a drying station. For $18.00, they give you a token and provide you with towels, shampoo, apron and a drying station. They also have a buy 3 and get the 4th wash free, which equals to $13.50 per wash. You know how messy it could get giving your pet a bat at home, so this is very convenient, hassle-free and no need to clean up after. And the main reason we've been coming here is for the Vet Clinics. Their schedule on this particular location is every Saturday from 1430 - 1730 hours. Here's a tip, get the QR code and scan in at 1400 hours, log-in and it's first-come first-served. This will save you some waiting time. Again, it's very convenient, and the Vets are always very friendly, helpful and professional. They ask the dogs' temperament and they handle each individual dogs accordingly. This is greatly appreciated since Jaime is a rescue dog and is still very skittish due to his traumatic upbringing. This particular store is also very clean, organized and efficiently run. They offer good pet food that are healthy and organic. And every time we pay a visit, Jaime is getting a treat or two for being patient and brave, even though he'll shake and tremble like a leaf. But the staff here treat all the dogs (and cats) all the same - accommodating, empathetic and caring. read more

Extremely kind and generous staff! We stumbled into a puppy when a desperate stranger knocked on our door after his dog gave birth to a litter of 12. We said no. We said no. We said no. We said yes. Being clueless and without supplies, we entered Pet Food Express in Pinole for food, fixings and guidance. Store Manager, Marissa, and team, were responsive and outfitted us with essentials without attempting to upsell unnecessary items. As our heads were spinning from the fact we had somehow adopted a puppy, their insights and tips were greatly appreciated. Each subsequent shopping experience has been positive. While we continued to visit, because I'm not an active Yelper, it had not occurred to me to leave a review. Unfortunately, I somehow took the outstanding service for granted. No more... Our pup was playing with another friendly pup at a park when a third dog sprinted over and attacked our dog and wouldn't release/stop until beaten by people armed with ball fetching sticks. It wasn't pretty. As owners of a friendly chap, the sudden, unprovoked and exceptionally violent incident left us shaken and distraught. Thankfully, it looks like our dog will back to himself shortly. (Random aside- Shortly afterward, we learned the dog has a history of vicious attacks. Good grief! Why bring an animal you can't control?!) Following the incident, I went to the store in search of treats and such to help our pup get back on his feet. Again, Marissa's kindness was unmatched as she showed incredible compassion and went far beyond in expressing concern and helping with supplies. Her actions were from the heart and not motivated by making a buck. THIS is customer service. As such, we are now customers of this store for life. Bravo. read more

They also have animal adoptions from different animal rescues as well as limited veterinary services from VIP, on certain weekends. Their store in Pinole is outstanding! Excellent, kind, knowledgeable staff. Their dog washing station is super helpful, especially after a muddy walk in the rain. They have a generous supply of towels, soap and treats. It's a clean, well-merchandised store. They make it easy to find essential pet products. And, they have a scale for your pets. We fostered a dog who came to us extremely overweight. I was able to provide a good diet, appropriate exercise, and then weigh her weekly to get her to better physical condition. This is the pet store we go to in the area when we go to a pet store - they do not sell animals here. The others (Petco and Petsmart) do sell small animals and let's just say they are not taken care of well and many are not sold as "pets" and this is the best reason to avoid these stores. Petfood express does have weekends where local shelters and rescues will have adoption days and these are great (we have adopted a dog previously from a Petfood Express Saturday rescue adoption). Some stuff here is a little expensive but overall it's a good store. Bought a cat carrier here recently. We generally get most of our pet food from Chewy but when we need something right away, this is the store we go to. Best of the local petstores. read more

They were able to manage her, even as she was overstimulated and undisciplined, and gave us pointers on how to manage her. Bathtime got unlimited towels. Prices are reasonable, and staff is so friendly and helpful. A little lacking for those whose pets are not a dog, cat, or rabbit, but otherwise very good. read more

Been going here for about a year and have experienced 2 separate occasions of terrible customer service. The first time the lady literally called me a problem child for asking too many questions about what ever it was... The last time I went there was in line and I was up next the lady opening the other side literally goes to the person behind me I approached her and she tried to act busy and then physically approaches the first person to walk in the door while I waited for almost 15 minutes before I walked out the store. I don't know who I annoyed to the fact where the employees feel like treating a customer like this is okay but I got the memo and will not be returning... Terrible way to treat clients that spend good money I the store on a regular basis. Yes I'm a new dog own and may ask a few questions during dog food changes, but that's your job right? I even called cooperate to complain but that's all I can do, it's obvious this store doesn't care about keeping business and that's fine PetSmart is just steps away. read more

I've never been here before and I won't be returning. Why? Because I was told they only price match to a local retailer if you have a picture of the same item on the shelf in the store with the price. Who does that? NOBODY. I would have just bought it then, duh! This is what it states on their website: We'll beat our competitor's price on any identical item! How it works: If the price of the item is $10 or less, we will beat the competitor's price by 10%. If the price of the item is more than $10, we will beat it by $1.00. Guarantee applies to most of our foods, but a few are limited by the manufacturer. Please ask a sales associate for details. Who is a competitor? Any retail store in our market area. We must be able to verify the competitor's price through a current ad, a receipt dated within the prior 30 days, or a current advertised price on pet retailer's website. I showed them on Petco's website the same item which was in stock. I just didn't want to drive to El Cerrito. But duly noted. I will drive anywhere except here. Pet Food Express has the coolest, organic items for pets. Period. I took my brother, Albert's dog, Troy Dogihue here to wash him after exploring the beach for the day. It costs $10.00 to wash your pet at the store rather than getting your house dirty or water-logged from washing your pet. Also, I saw a very cool,self-cleaning, automatic kitty litter machine. I think I will buy two-one for Joy's cat, Zucchi and one for Kris & Aaron's two new cats. I will buy these two kitty litter machines on pay day, despite the machines costing over $100. Still, it is well worth the cost purchasing these kitty litter machines because you never have to manually clean the kitty liiter box. All you do is fill the machine with kitty litter while the machine automatically scoops away the manure. Once the bag is filled with kitty manure, you remove the bag filled with manure and throw the bag away. Afterwards, you install a new kitty litter disposal bag onto the kitty litter machine. You never ever touch the manure with your hands! No more handling the nasty, dirty, unhealty, bacterica infested kitty manure scooper! Awesome! BTW: I bought 20 lbs. of organic kitty litter for $14.00 on sale for Zucchi. Very good price indeed. I forgot to take pics at this store because Stone Cold Creamery in Pinole put me in a foul disposition! read more

I love this pet store!! although it is more expensive than pet smart, it's really convenient. it's right next to where I work, so if I need to pick up something there's not hassle. I come here frequently to give my dog a bath. I love the self service wash! it's such a good environment, and also enjoyable for the pet and owner. it's 15$ for a token, I'm not sure about the time limit, but 15 is reasonable I guess. I wish there were discounts on baths, maybe 10% off coupons. the only discount they have is buy 3 get the 4th free, but I don't want to purchase all that at once! the staff is really friendly and willing to help in any way they can. although the prices are a tad high, no complaints with this store! read more

She knew more about nutrition & health for all dog ages then most vets weve ever met. Will definitely be getting all our pets needs there and using there vet service. Sunday August 28, 2016 4 pm Missed opportunity. About mid January this year, I purchased 3 Gamma food storage containers from Pet Food Express's Pinole store. Within a few months mice or rats started chewing holes in the sides to get at the stored food. My solution was to put silver heat resistant tape on the holes. That lasted about a week and the critters returned. The hang tags on the containers in the store indicated something to the effect "pest proof" not sure if this is exactly what it said, but close. One container had fish food pellets, the second had bird food and the third had dog food. When I showed the picture of the three containers to the very nice young lady at the store this afternoon, she told me the company would replace them if I had my receipt and I purchased them within 30 days. I told her I don't have my receipt but I paid for them with my credit card and she could look it up. She said that was not possible. I said how about looking up my phone number and she will see that with my two dogs, one cat, four birds and about 20 Koi, she will see I spend a lot of money at her store. She again, very politely, said she could not help me and suggested I email the manufacturer. I told her I did not buy them from the manufacturer, I bought them from Pet Food Express. She again repeated herself. I told her if I bought a new Ford from Hilltop Ford and it wouldn't start, I would take it back to Hilltop Ford, not email Ford Motor Company in Detroit. Still no resolution. I offered to buy three new containers today and return the defective ones tomorrow, letting her know I felt the manufacturer's representative would, in all likelihood, issue them a store credit. Still "No." I explained that it's too bad she can't look up in her system to see how much my wife and I spend in her store and this experience is a missed opportunity to please the customer at no expense to the store. Still "No." The young lady was very polite but firm in her position. I told her I was disappointed in her decision and will not return to store in the future. Pet's Mart is about 1000 yards to the west and that will be my new shopping store. I told her I would post this Pet Food Express missed opportunity on Yelp later this evening. I then went across the parking lot and bought 10-gallon metal cans with metal lids to store my animal's food. I took a picture of the three containers and hope I can figure out how to add it to this post. read more

I've been taking my furry baby here since she was 9 lbs, 5 years later she is now 80lbs. The staff here is amazing very knowledgeable and treats my dog like family. When I come here, I know they want what is best for her and for that I will always return. The food and supplement selection is top. And the treats are made with the best ingredients. And the bath! Whew, my fur baby is half mountain dog and one word HAIR. I love that I am able to wash her and leave the mess there. The collar selection is mediocre, but when your dog is on the big size does that really matter. read more

The people who work here are always helpful and friendly. The shelves seem to be well stocked. On the weekends they have a VIP clinic. I think they also have adoption days. There are also pet washing tubs. Buck, the boy cat, needed a new collar and they had many for me to choose from. While I thought he would look good in a sparkly collar S would be horrified. I got a pretty red that goes well with his gray fur. I'm not sure he cares about the color of his new accessory. He was very happy with his new shedding blade. read more

I called ahead of time to see if they had a specific cat food brand. They checked and told me they had it. Went in and picked up four 10 pound bags and was asked by every employee if I needed a cart. I just moved back to the Bay and found housing in Rodeo, a bit farther North than my days in Oakland. So when my canine companion, my Olde English Bulldogge Stark needed a bath, I did a quick Yelp search for a self wash location and found these folks. Very friendly and helpful staff. Easy to use wash facility that Stark quickly adapted to. They provide a 25 minute timed wash and dry for $15, or you can buy 4 tokens for the price of 3 ($45), taking the price per wash down to only $11.25, which is a great deal! Three different options for soap, towels to dry your pup before using the timed blow dryer, and a disposable apron to keep you from getting your clothes wet are included in the price. read more
