    Bunkhouse

This is truly a hidden gem on the outskirts of the BWCA. Friendly, accommodating and professional; Danielle, Nick and Gene will get you on the water with as much or as little equipment required by your group. Do yourself a favor and support a local family business. I can't wait until my next adventure in the BWCA.

AWESOME AFFORDABLE Lakeside accomodations with very friendly owners. Beautiful sunsets on the deck. We stayed in their bunkhouse which is kinda like like a hostel accommodation with tons of bunk beds and shared bathroom and shower. They said we could use a canoe and paddle boat on the lake for free during our stay. They also allow use of a gas grill and they have a fire pit by the lake also. They charged us $17 per person per night which includes clean sleeping bag, pillow and bunk with pretty comfortable foam bunk mattress. This also includes clean towel and washcloth for showering. Before we stayed overnight here we rented canoes from them for a couple days to go on a trip into the boundary waters canoe area. They canoes were in great shape and affordable and light weight for portaging. The owners transported the canoes to our BWCA entry point and they also picked the canoes up there when we returned. They gave us a free complementary water or soda upon return from the BWCA and allowed us free use of their showers along with a towel and washcloth upon return. If you have ever been canoeing and portaging in BWCA you know how great it is for an immediate free shower upon return. Some outfitters charge $3-6 per shower. They have boy scouts troops who come here and rent canoes and stay in the bunkhouse accommodations because they can accommodate many people in the bunkhouse. This place would be an ideal outfitter and place to stay with a boyscout or girlscout group. They also rent out 3 cabins on site but the cabins are often reserved through most of the summer. The bunkhouse however had plenty of room and worked great for our group of 7. They also offer full outfitter services including food and gear set up for your BWCA journey. We didn't use this full outfitting service but they looked well prepared and stocked in their stock room. The owners are extremely congenial and knowledge about the area including fishing recommendations and restaurant recommendations. I would fully recommend this outfitter. We plan to come back soon.

We arrived at Packsack as fish out of water when it came to canoeing and camping in the Boundary Waters.

Hey, after a week on a northern lake, how hard could it be to earn a 5-star review?…read more Well, unless you've checked out a lot of northern Minnesota resorts, you might not see the difference. Most of them are woefully outdated -- with few plans for improvement -- or astoundingly expensive. My wife did the research for this place, so I wasn't sure what to expect when she put in on my calendar and said, "We're going." (She's an Iron Ranger and likes her lake life). We reserved a "duplex" cabin up on the ridge above the lake, shared with retired owners. Talk about nice -- it was well-appointed (the owners are artists), clean, tidy, and comfortable. I enjoyed it so much that I heartily endorsed a return visit this summer. The main lodge has a few video games, but is a great place to chill and read. The owners are relaxed but hard-working and attentive. The beach is a bit tiny (good for little ones), and overall the resort was quiet enough that I never was irritated with neighbors. A highlight of our visit was a pontoon rental that we navigated through the lakes to the edge of the Boundary Waters (actually, about 50 yards into the BWCA before I realized that I shouldn't be there and promptly turned around). Lovely, medium-sized lakes with a lot of great scenery (at least for flat northern Minnesota). We're coming back with our 9-year old grandson to rent an older cabin right on the water where he can step outside to fish at 6 in the morning without worrying about him. Oh, and bring your bicycles so you can ride the Mesabi Trail out to Tower. Surprisingly hilly in places, but a beautiful trail. We positioned two cars to avoid a round-trip.

This was our third stay with Sandy and Kerry Davis at WIBR! Their cabins are nice, and if you…read moreneed anything, all have to do is ask. The power actually went out one night while we were there, and they had a back up generator so that the well would stay running to supply us with water! We were able to cook on the grill and had flashlights, so we fared just fine. They have pontoon rentals (extra charge) , canoes and paddle boats that are included in the rental. They have a swimming beach on the lake. We have always enjoyed our stays here. Will likely go again in the future.
