This is one of the cutest gift shops I've ever seen. The store is small, but every single square inch of space is well-merchandised. The prices were a little on the higher side, but the selection was incredible. They had the cutest hats, shirts, stickers, keychains, and souvenirs. Lots of local themed merchandise. Some of the Mount Rainier themed merchandise was cuter than the merchandise sold in the shops in the park. They had the cutest little 'Lovers Press' mini red French presses with heart cutouts. All kinds of unique gifts, and a small selection of probiotic sodas. The shop smelled very masculine, as if they were burning a man candle, and the music was very alphabet gang. If I hadn't known better, I would have thought I was in San Francisco. A lot of gift shops and convenience stores in Oregon and Washington are kinda dirty and messy, but this store was California clean. Everything was perfectly curated and arranged. Adorable town shop. I mean what's NOT to love about this tiny town. It's so small. You can walk it. The Mercantile is the spot to get your cute souvenirs. This shop is a must! I find something new and interesting every time we head up skiing or hiking. It's the perfect place to get unique gifts and they have the best smelling candles and incense. What an absolute little treasure in the quant town of Packwood. A must stop while you're in town staying for MT Rainier NP. As soon as you walk in you are hit with the most wonderful aroma! The combination of all their smell good candles just hit you at the door. I loved it. They had a good array of items if you wanted a cute souvenir shirt or sweater from your Washington trip, but also some fun curated vintage as well as other unique items. Must mention the shop gal was also playing very vibey music. Loved it! read more

Very interesting place great destination for lunch and a beautiful drive from Tri-Cities. When you just need to get out of the house. They have cabins in the area but we have not over nighted yet. We drive there for lunch and the natural beauty of the area. read more

I've been shopping at Packwood Mercantile repeatedly for the last 3 years and didn't mind paying more for out of state items because the customer service was great, the curation was on point, and they have the cutest bathroom ever full of incredible vintage artwork. Unfortunately, after Labor Day at the semi annual swap meet I won't be returning to this shop because I now fear the owner. There was a lack of public restrooms that day and I knew they had one so I planned to go in, buy something, use the restroom, and leave. I ended up buying over $60 and purchased 2 alcoholic beverages. Didn't know they sold such. They had the inside bathrooms closed to customers. Not sure why, but they said they had a Porta potty I could use. Then they took my driver's license in exchange for a key and didn't explain the bathroom outside was on the side, not by the food they served out back. It was a padlock key. When I got done, there was a group of people together waiting for the restroom. They had no idea it was only for paying customers as there was no sign. I was then out in the awkward position of having a key and padlock with a group of nice people looking at me with desperation while doing the potty dance. I decided to negotiate by telling them the policy. One of them said he would gladly go inside with me to buy stuff while his group if friends went the restroom. We went inside together and they talked to staff at the door. Then they got in line to buy stuff. All good, right? Wrong. I asked the owner at the cash register for my license and she freaked out. She actually raised her voice at me and ran off without even listening. Then she came and found me in their beer garden out back and yelled at me some more about how dare I because it cost her $600 to rent the portal potty. I honestly feared she'd hit me. She made a spectacle in front of her customers and begrudgingly gave me back my license as if she was doing me a favor. It's illegal to keep someone's government ID like this. I don't know what's wrong with her, but I know I will never feel safe going there again. That group purchased a ton of items and returned the key like they promised. I basically brought this owner business and she publicly humiliated me in exchange. read more

Every time I'm in Packwood I have to stop by the Mercantile. There is always a unique selection of gifts and clothing. They also offer beer and wine while you browse which is always a plus. There is a great selection of locally made items and things I've never seen in other shops. Also, visiting with the shop dog Deacon is the highlight! read more

Stopped by this shop Summer 2022 and found some really cute stuff so I thought I'd swing by again after my hike yesterday (12/31/23) . I was there around 1230 with my friend, I tried on a jacket and noticed there was some staining on the inside of sorts. I asked the gal at the front if she had another one in the same size as I noticed there were black marks on this one. She asked me if I thought it would wash out? I told her I had no idea and her response was that she would just go wash it out right now. She came back with another jacket in the same size , which also had the same black marks on the inside--- I imagine from the printing machine that was used to get the print on the jacket. I ended up buying it but not sure it was worth the $70 given the customer service experience was less than par. I love supporting small towns & small businesses but the friendly meter could use some work . Update to response : not sure how to respond but I wanted to extend a sincere thanks to the owner for her quick and extensive response! I realize that my perspective of the employee being sassy was her just trying to be helpful, and I can appreciate that. A warm welcome or hello when customers walk in would be a nice touch to a small town business though, especially with a lot of people from out of town passing through. All things aside, I will definitely be back next time I am in the area. read more

Terrible experience at the Packwood Mercantile with whoever was running the front counter. My 4 year old son and I were browsing in the shop; I was looking at sweatshirts and he was looking at the (overpriced) huckleberry kids products, merely 3 feet away from me. I could see the saleswoman's expression from where I was standing, who clearly was expressing disdain as she raised her eyes at my child who was quietly exploring the small children's area. As I put the item I was about to purchase back and grabbed his hand to exit the store, I peeked over my shoulder as she clearly followed us with her eyes out the store with the same look of contempt. And yeah, I absolutely flipped her the bird. Gemma's shop is fan-freaking-tastic, not only good style but tons of great shopping from candles and healthy snacks to hip packwood merch. A ton of thought and effort has obviously gone into this place, the decor alone is worth seeing! a must see when visiting Packwood, oh and they sell beer! mind blown! read more
