We came here to rent a pontoon or kayaks. The pontoon were booked out a few days, so reserve ahead of you plan to do that. We ended up renting three kayaks. My 12 year old daughter was trying it for the first time. She was nervous but did ok. I probably would not let any child younger than 12 go out. There were some waves due to wind but we stayed close to shore. I spoke to the owner at the marina. She was super friendly. Price was decent, like $60 for two hours for three kayaks. I wouldn't pay much more than that, but it was fun to try out. It was easy to get in and out at the marina. The lake is beautiful. There is a nice public beach that has a day use fee. We are definitely going back to rent a pontoon. read more

I rented a pontoon for the afternoon and also ordered lunch. First impression came from my phone conversation. The lady I spoke to was very helpful and accommodating. Once I arrived my positive experience continued, the store was clean and the the lady behind the counter was very nice (but clearly busy). She took our food order which was chicken and potato and macaroni salad she asked me to stop back in 30 minutes to pick up the food, which was ok with me because I arrived much earlier than I had expected. On the phone she had mentioned it would be ready for me to take it on the boat with me when I arrived. Waiting while she prepared it wasn't a problem. We walked down to the dock to get on our boat, it was clean and in good condition. The guy down there hustling getting the boats in and out of the pier but still found some type to crack jokes and be personable. Once undocked we floated around with no problems and enjoyed some beverages and chicken on the lake. The food was good, people were good and the boats were nice and worked well! Remember the lake as a kid in the early 70s, good memories. I have rented a pontoon the past three years for a "guys fishing trip" from Tennessee. Boats are clean. Limited success with depth finders, ask in advance to ensure you have a workable depth finder. This year, I inadvertently booked two boats for one day instead of consecutive days. Receipt stated "two full days." My bad. But, no accommodations offered for a partial refund. Rules state 48 hours cancellation notice, so my mistake. Lastly, after a day of poor fishing we all were looking forward to their "famous" fried chicken. The chicken was awful and had to be fried in old oil. Please replace the oil. Recommendations, if you plan to fish ask for a pontoon geared for fishing and ask in advance about depth finders working. And, before you order chicken ask how long the oil has been used. I wanted to give this place a 5 star when I first visited here, because this is a place I have history visiting as a kid and a place that has touched my life. But on my most recent experience, it was sad to say the least. We rented a Pontoon Boat for a group of families to go out on and enjoy a lovely day of lake and camping. Instead we had a very unhappy feeling because of accident that occured with one of the Pontoon Boat Rentals that was definately not caused by anyone but the Boat being malfunction and not up to code, when we reported it to the the Boat Rentals we did not get no symponthy or any kind of discount even though left someone in the ER and also the fact the boat almost sank a couple times with kids on their that is very dangerous as well. I would definately never rent a Boat from them again, Camping was good but Boat Rentals Beware not Good Business. read more

At first I wanted to give this place 5 stars. The girl checking me in was too occupied trying to socialize with her coworkers that she kept messing up on showing me the map & kept starting over with instructions! She left out the most important detail, when to return the boat. Due to this young girls unprofessional work ethic she cost me an extra 70$. The lady that was checking me out had a bad attitude & kept repeating she has to charge me a late fee and gave some bull shit excuse that she had to charge me on top of the late fee because a worker had to "come get us" on a jet ski when that guy DID NOT TELL us anything nor attempt to communicate with us, he was too preoccupied doing donuts & while he was still playing around when we was already pulling in. This uptight rude lady also charged my card 170$ because she made a mistake due to someone else damaging a boat way before I was there. She proceeded to get upset when I said i mentioned those are a lot of transactions. I came back to South Dakota for a funeral from California and all I hoped for was an easy fun day with my family. However due to how many factors and seeing first hand how racists these workers are is truly outstanding. I hope the next colored family get treated better. Also Dont get the sloppy nachos, it's trash & so is the chicken. They are over priced for nothing. read more

We rented a pontoon for family of four yesterday while in Custer on a family summer vacation. The marina is fine. The boats are ok, a little beat. But, our biggest frustration is that Pactola Pines does not give you an anchor with your boat. Good luck trying to relax at all on your boat during the day. We basically had to keep driving it because if we stopped and shut the boat off to fish or let our kids swim, we had to start it up and move it every three minutes to prevent it from drifting into shore or another boat. They said they do not give out anchors because it makes to much of a mess in the boat when people bring them up from the lake. We payed to rent the boat from 10 to 6 pm. We returned the boat by 3 pm. We were sick of driving around the lake by the point. The lake, in my opinion, is not very big. We rented the boat on a Sunday and it was very crowded. We had a tube for our kids, and we pulled them for a while. But, after a while it just didn't feel safe while all the boats cross crossing back and forth in front of us and behind us. Renting a boat at Pactola Pines was not worth it for us. read more

Our experience in early July, 2014, was superb. The pontoon boat was clean and in great operating shape. We found the dock crew attentive. They provided clear instructions. The store is well-stocked and the lunch we ha pre-ordered ready at the appointed time. Pactola is a beautiful lake with lots of deep water to cruise. We swam, fished, explored, and caught some sun. read more
